I've bought this recently, managed to get to the boss on easy but the second phase when it says 'all power has been routed to his drones' I got my ass handed to me on a plate, just about every part of my ship was on fire / damaged, I had the stealth thing to hide you from enemy weapons but it was still a no go
Didn't the developers said they were going to consider opening the game up for modding post-release? Has anything come of that yet?
Lol more like he said that he didn't have any real plans to expand on it or anything because of various reasons that mostly amount to "Welp, I don't really have any plans.. I dunno!"
Wasn't it more like, he didn't have any plans on it because all the work he has out into it has left him very tired of working on it, but he'll consider doing it later if a lot of people want it?

I see
Well, the game is enjoyable enough in its current state and certainly worth the 6 bucks I paid during the weekend sale
it's a fun game, but I feel like the creators owe the community a little more since they got something like 10x the original funding they wanted
also didn't they said they'd have a sandbox mode in the kickstarter?
I definitely think they should continue working on it... However I also think it's acceptable to allow them a break from working on it. Do something else for a while, so they don't end up thinking of the game as just another chore they don't want to work on but have to.
Damn... I was getting pretty close to upgrading my kretzel or whatever the first ship is called completely. I just got the achievement for getting 6 different crewmembers, but the achievement for surviving with 1 hp feels a bit too random to rely on.
Just start a new game, find a ship, let it get you to 1hp then repair at a station. This is easily done on easy, and pretty much guaranteed if you find an asteroid field. Just make sure you're near a store.
I want some new content or a sequel of some kind.
An open world version would be cool. Something similar to ASCII Sector.
Okay, so I'm currently on my eighth attempt to beat the game on Normal with the Kestrel type A.
My first jump in the sector, I run into a somewhat unimpressive ship. It fires all of its missiles and me and doesn't hit me more than once iirc, leaving it with just its heavy laser Mk. II to get through my 3-layered shields.
And so I powerleveled until all 6 of my crew were gold in piloting, engines, shields, and weapons.
And then I ninja'd all of them up (except the Engi, because who uses Engies to fight, anyway?) and killed the last enemy crew member, netting me a disappointing ~50 scrap and some other useless stuff like drone parts or something.

I really could have used another layer of shields and a Mantis, but I guess this will just have to do.
In the 6th sector, I ran across a Zoltan research facility. I didn't have the stasis pod at the time, so I took part in their study and moved on. Next jump? Asteroid field. What the heck, let's just explore it. My hull's in good shape and I can afford a little bit of damage. "Whoa! A ship! Do you want the weapon or the stasis pod?" I needed weapons at the time, but I also really needed the Crystal guy, so I took the pod in the hopes of finding another research facility.
Next sector, sure enough, I found another Zoltan research facility and got the Crystal guy. This is extremely good news, because the Crystal guy's lockdown power makes it actually possible to assassinate the flagship's crewmembers one by one, which shouldn't be too hard so long as I can knock the flagship's weapons down quickly, and so long as I don't lose any crew members (to that freaking cloaking device).
Wish me luck please, because I'm honestly kind of scared.

The rebel flagship got owned.
After I had all but that one last guy dead, I teleported my Engi over and told him to break stuff until he was gold at fighting. :v:
Here's hoping I can survive the second phase...

The second phase is down, and my ship is currently held together with space duct tape. This will be close.

I got mega-pwn'd when it fired its superweapon and its triple missile launcher simultaneously.
I had to use my cloak to dodge the missile launcher's first salvo, because it could easily have ended me right then and there. And then when it went all ultra-overkill on me, the cloak was still recharging, leaving me to watch as my ship was blown into sub-atomic particles by the massive wave of projectiles.
R.I.P. Vincent, Oni, Will, Bovee, Charlie, and Yeoz. You were positively indispensable in your efforts to thwart the rebels. You will be dearly missed.
To the informed, any kind of bragging rights relating to FTL should be meaningless, because this game is at least 70% luck. If I hadn't run into and gotten pounded by two ships on my way to the flagship, or else had I found a repair station, I might have been able to survive this fight and win. Had the one ship's Artemis missile actually missed once or twice instead of hitting my ship every single time it was fired in spite of my 45% evade, I might have been able to absorb more of a beating from the boss. Had the boss at least regenerated its Zoltan shield instead of firing the super weapon, I might not have been vaporized.
In other words, at the end of the day, luck ultimately determines whether you win or lose, provided you can play competently well. This game is freakin' cleverly disguised gambling.
So this is how it ends

Your O2 is still on-line, you could vent out that fire and then come back and fix the healing room, then go from there.

Had been trying. Bad luck, though. The solar flares kept frying things faster than I could fix it.
Am I the only one in the habit of shooting down drones by swapping them between slots and firing when they move directly in the way?

The Last Stand is coming up fast and I have a lot of scrap to prepare for it with. What should I buy, Facepunch?
Buy two weapons slots and upgrade your cloak, make sure you repair though.
Buy two weapons slots and upgrade your cloak, make sure you repair though.
I only need the first level of cloak for the boss and I'm automatically repaired for 10 hull once I get to sector eight. Weapons are definitely a god idea, though, since I have a Hull Smasher II in storage.

You should also use the crew-teleporter with your best fighters so you can kill all of the crew members, just don't kill the guy inside the laser weapon. Trust me it will help in stage 3.
That's what I've been doing. I've fought the Flagship some 3-5 times now, and have successfully killed everyone except the laser guy on one occasion. Dunno how I'll manage that this time, since I don't have a Crystal guy, but I'm thinking the Anti-Bio Beam will help somewhat.

THANK YOU.
I finally beat the game on Normal as the starting ship. This is also the first time I've beaten the game.
And it only took me nine attempts.
And today is Christmas. :v:
Btw, throughout the course of this boss battle, I took all of 2 points of hull damage. This happened in the third phase of the battle. I didn't want to use my cloak to dodge the first barrage of missiles and then not have it ready to dodge the superweapon, so I just let the missiles hit or miss. One of them missed and the other two hit, leaving my piloting slightly damaged but still fully functional. I then proceeded to board and wreck their ship, pound through their shields, destroy them, etc. They didn't stand a chance.
So after beating the game for the first time, I decided to chill out and try the game at Easy with the Federation Cruiser.

Beat it on my first go. That was too easy.
I also got Astronomically Low Odds along the way while powerleveling everyone up to max at piloting, engines, shields, weapons, and combat. The enemy ship was constantly spamming its Burst Laser II and Basic Laser at me and failing to get through my four layers of shields. :v:
I don't know how you people manage to beat the game on Normal. I've tried about 8 times on Easy now, and the farthest I ever got was to the second stage of the boss fight. The first stage was so easy, but in the second one, the drones ripped me apart in a matter of seconds. I had time to fire my 4 damage rocket launcher three or four times, and missed every time. Otherwise I might have stood a chance.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of a fight that I actually won. (Yes, I took it with my phone, but that's because I was talking to a friend over What'sApp at the time and wanted to send him the picture)

The brave crew of the Rocinante encountered a Mantis ship with a crew teleporter AND a boarding party from a nearby transport. So I had five of those grasshoppers on board while the ship was firing at me with a rocket launcher that could do 4 damage.
Lost no one to the mantis boarding party, but Liam and and Holden bought it when a rocket hit the shield room while they were fixing it. By the time I'd destroyed the mantis ship, the med-bay was gone and O2 was down to 20%. Amos and Alex were wounded and close to asphyxiation, but they managed to get the o2 system back online together. Amos died the second after. Only Alex survived.. for two more jumps.
They actually released an update to the game? On December 21st, 2012?
I guess the Mayans were right.

Beating the game on Normal with the starting ship is like, at least 70% luck and at most 30% knowing what to do and when to do it. That's why it took me nine attempts. :v:
To illustrate what I mean about the game being mostly luck, lemme tell you a little story. At about my third jump into my seventh attempt, I ran into an automated ship that had a hacking module that completely disabled all one layers of my shields, as well as a beam, an ion blast, and a beam drone. I couldn't jump out or fire my weapons because they wrecked the respective systems first and kept wrecking them faster than I could fix them. All I could do was sit there and watch as this ship and its drone cut mine to pieces with their beams.
I could perhaps have survived a little longer had I bought one shield upgrade, but its ion blast still would have eventually taken my shields down, at which point their beams would have been free to slice and dice my ship like an intergalactic, heavily-armored pizza.
In FTL, there literally are situations in which your ship will be blown apart and/or your crew will die and there isn't anything you can do about it besides hope that you never end up in them.

The update is wonderful!
How do you guys deal with invaders? I usually get screwed over by them, right now my strategy is to jam the entire crew into the sick bay and then open all the other doors, usually the invaders either suffocate or get weakened to the point where if they come into the sick bay, I can fight them off. Suggestions?

Pretty much that. Alternatively invest in a battle droid to patrol the ship.

And upgrade your doors first.
never knew how much I would end up loving this game, its like dwarf fortress but it is actually simple to play.
Wow, my second playthrough and I just completed the damaged stasis pod quest.
Also, someone must be a burn notice fan:
