FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! Was doing decently enough as the Stealth Ship, had 7 crew members and fully upgraded stealth system, upgraded engines, and had a bunch of spare credits, and I get a blue screen. The only consolation is that I didn't find a new ship or anything in the play through or I think I would of sent my first through my desk.
Pretty sure ships stay unlocked when they're unlocked, even if your run is aborted (gracefully or not).
How do you guys have so much stuff by the time you get there?
By keeping the ship intact, I racked up to 400~ scraps via boarding on my Mantis cruiser.
For someone new at the game, what are the first ships Ill be unlocking, and how? I got the Engi cruiser.
For someone new at the game, what are the first ships Ill be unlocking, and how? I got the Engi cruiser.
If you beat the game, you get the Federation Cruiser. If a Zoltan peace envoy approaches you, listen to what they have to say, go to the quest marker, and then say peaceful stuff and you'll unlock the Zoltan cruiser.

You get extra scrap from everything, including events. sadly its more useful mid game than late game (so you can actually save up and have opportunities to buy/upgrade things), and I tend to run into it late game.

Holy shit.
So this last time I hardly collected any scrap and couldn't buy any of the good stuff. This time around I was drowning in scrap but the stores had nothing but drone controls with defense drones when I lacked WEAPONS. And then that fucking quest gives me a second halberd beam, which is all fun and games until you have to bring down 4 shield levels. I arrived in the final sector having 480 scrap left... I maxed my teleporter and cloaking out with those, but what use is that when you have no means to attack... 29 tries now on easy (including about ten restarts when I messed up trying to get the "tough little ship" achievement), and I never beat the boss.
Which ship are you playing as?
Firebeam is the most effective weapon confirmed.
Firebeam is the most effective weapon confirmed.
Not unless you can take down all of their shields.
Which ship are you playing as?
Kestrel, Engi, Zoltan, Stealth... no success so far. Well, one of these days... :v
Not unless you can take down all of their shields.
Most effective beam weapon at least, it deny repairs and cause chaos. Best weapon ever.
I disagree. In terms of all-around usefulness, the Burst Laser Mk. II wins hands down. It takes only two power, can lower three layers of shields, and has a reasonably short cooldown time (not to mention it has a small chance to set stuff on fire when it hits it and its projectiles can't be shot down by Defense Drone Mk. I's). It's generally the most well-rounded and most dependable weapon in the game, imo. I must admit, though, that the Fire Beam is really satisfying when it works and enkindles an entire ship.
4 Burst Lasers II would just be a dream
4 Burst Lasers II would just be a dream
I tried a playthrough where I was using fed cruiser and nothing but beam weapons (and a drone or bombs to take down shields) Sadly never worked out, never could find any shops that sold beam weapons and by the time I got to some I either was broke from getting anally raped, was too late game, or I died.

[sp]Seriously though, I agree that Burst Laser Mk. II is the most reliable weapon in-game. But it just isn't as fun as lighting the whole ship on fire.[/sp]
I love the smaller slug ships. Who thought it was a bright idea to seal the Oxygen systems off in a room with no way of repairing them? Oh well more scrap for me.
4 Burst Lasers II would just be a dream
Or a nightmare, if they are what the other ship has, like the first Rebel Elite I ever ran into did.
Hull Laser Mk. II is pretty good as well, they're basically 3-shot burst fire heavy laser at a low power cost.
Hull Laser Mk. But it still does only one damage when it hits rooms with systems. It also takes three power, which isn't that cheap, and has a 15-second cooldown, which isn't that fast.
I finally got the Crystal Cruiser. Was using the Rock cruiser, was doing terribly, continually out of resources (only had missiles and drones), almost died numerous times. Just barely got the shit needed for the crystal cruiser, then immediately abandoned the run after it was unlocked. Then I beat the flagship for the second time, using said cruiser.
Managed to beat it finally... Had nearly every system maxed out by the end, and like 3 crystal weapons from unlocking that cruiser... The first and 3rd stage I barely took a scratch, the drones got me at first, had to jump out of the fight...
The biggest problem with the boss fight is that repair stations are always plentiful when you first arrive, but when you finally need a repair station, those bastard Rebels take them out. I lost my best ship because the hull damage. Not crew deaths, not system damage. All of the repair stations were gone.
so im retarded i only just now realised repair stations repair you, i thought all this time you go there as an optional objective to repair all the shit and they give you supplys.
i almost made it this time with the engi...had the boss down to 4 health bars. Had I found a cloaking device somwhere, i might have had a chance. or maybe 4 shields...i should have done that. but then i would have spent fewer points somewhere else...

Dodge all of it.
Top level cloaking definitely is great for the fight, especially with the missile spam and 2nd/3rd fight power spam. Dodge all of it.
If you use a level 2 or 3 cloak to dodge a power surge, your cloak won't recharge in time for the next one. Always, ALWAYS use just the first level of cloaking to dodge power surges. And don't use your cloaking to dodge the first barrage of missiles that the flagship fires at you in the third phase of the battle, for the same reason.
Meh, I did just fine with it. Maybe because I had my engines so high also for the in between stuff. You're right though, I forgot that happened a few times. My first target was always the missiles, since those things ignore shields...
I personally think that the single most useful thing you can have going into the Boss fight is a Crew Teleporter. Although Cloaking Device is a close second.
