Level one cloak is your friend.
Yeah, but don't cloak before the power surge drones actually become active.
Also, if you can keep their drone control down, the power surge won't do anything. And since that'll also stop those pesky boarding drones, it's probably your #1 goal in stage 2.
If you manage to kill off the enemy crew in the main area (leave at least 1 guy alive in one of the weapons rooms! I suggest not to attack the burst laser weapon), stages 2 and 3 will be a piece of cake, as you can just board the ship and wreck their shit.
Also, if you can keep their drone control down, the power surge won't do anything.
Incorrect. The power surges will always summon six drones, regardless of the drone system's state of repair. The drone system does, however, control one beam drone and one attack drone Mk. I independently of the power surges, as well as a boarding drone and a defense drone, so destroying the system is still quite helpful.
I should have expressed myself more clearly:
Yes, the surge will summon six drones regardless. But without the regular attack drone and without the risk of the boarding drones fucking up your shield control, those power surge drones will hardly get through your shields, because four or five of them are beam drones.
Just murdered the rebel flagship on my second ever time reaching it in the Engi cruiser (on normal).
In THIS beauty:

As you can see I didn't have much luck finding any drones, but no shortage of crew.

I don't get what you guys were going on about, he's not hard to take down as long as you supress the missile launcher and his shields.

I didn't loose a single man either <3

Not always correct. The power surge summons six drones. What the drones will be seems to be randomly determined before the battle. I've seen three of each and I believe five attack drones and one beam drone as well.

Pretty sure it's random when they're summoned. Admittedly I wasn't paying much attention to the composition of the drone armada, but I'm pretty sure I saw them with 2 beam drones and then 4 beam drones a few surges later.
Beat the game for the first time last night, 4 burst laser mk II's, maxed shields and maxed engines on the kestrel. Full crew of humans because I got unlucky with my crew randoms but I got so lucky with weapon finds so it made up for it, didn't buy a single one. Got the scrap arm on the third jump so that basically set me up for a win
Just unlocked zoltan ship.
It is marvelous.
Seriously though. How long would it take...
You want the truth?
To add new text options.
A long while.
To add it to the random pool of encounters, to make it only appear or show options when applicable, to make it balanced, to make it interesting, to make it meaningful, to make it unique, and importantly, to make sure it even works...
To add player controlled ships to the enemy pool.
A long while.
Modders take weeks if not longer to do this to a suitable standard, needing new artwork, room positions, ship pathfinding, a suitable level of balance, a unique playstyle, there own abilities and/or special features, weapon positions for every single game weapon, then debugging and testing making sure it's all flawless.
To make new ships.
A long while.
All of the above, plus making sure it isn't over or underpowered in combat, adjusting loot dropped to be suitable for the difficulty level, to add special dialogue events for every possible scenario and edge case, and making sure an AI which usually is only 2 or 3 people per ship can get ship priorities correct, for example manned systems and needed repairs, to fit with whatever the ships role is which must fit in with the lore and backstory.
To add new weapons.
A long while.
Artwork, attachment positions, balancing, costs, adding to stores, creating a unique role not currently filled, making it interesting, making sure enemy AI can use it flawlessly, adding special blue options for applicable weapons...
To add alternate skins for all the characters.
A long while.
You need more artwork, more special blue dialogue, more backstory and lore... unless you mean just literal re-skins, which would be useless, boring, and ugly as hell.
[del]Was just given this game from the Steam sale. I had it beforehand, and I wanted to get rid of my data so far and start fresh. I tried deleting the prof.sav, but it seems to auto-regenerate every time. I wiped it completely from the Recycle Bin in case it was coming from there, but it keeps regenerating. Is there any way to completely reset progress?[/del]
I had Steam Cloud turned on and it uploaded the old save file. :downs:

I am never that lucky in FTL. The best I've ever done, is have 3 shields, a good gun (a single good gun), a few upgrades to systems, an anti-ship drone, and 2 crew. How the hell are you so good/lucky?
Just started playing, teleported my crew onto an unmanned ship.
Fuck.
Also slugs are dicks.
Please help me I am so fucking bad at this game.
I'm using the Kestrel and playing on normal. I try get my shields up to 2 or 3 and get one upgrade in pretty much everything.
I never seem to have enough money for everything and I don't get new crew members or weapons for some reason.
