So we're in the last stage of the update, barring any new features that come out of nowhere.[/QUOTE]
I don't even know what I want more
The update released sooner
and a random awesome feature that delays the update
Please fix fishing soon Toady, it's been way too long...

fishing works just fine?
I thought he didn't? I'm sure that my fish stocks still go extinct after about a year.

Yeah, bug 2780 reports on it, too.

Ahh nope, my bad. That's turtles on ponds, rivers were solved, ponds still bug a bit.
I can't seem to assign a book keeper/manager/broker
Do I just stick the expedition leader in a study or something?
Is the skull as weak as puddy bug fixed in 2013?

They need an office after you've designated them a noble with n.
Bookkeeper, manager, and broker all only require meager offices, but it's worth making better as soon enough they'll require better.
It can be anyone in your fortress, not just your leader. I usually make a noble a dedicated noble though; exception being military related roles.
I tried playing DF a couple months back, but was far too confused to know what or how to build anything. I kinda stopped playing since I had no idea what to do. So: First things first, what is an ideal starting point for a Fort? What are the best and most useful conditions I can get? I know Aquifers need to be avoided if possible, and probably should have a fresh water source, but what else?

[quote]For your first game, find a site with the following properties:
NO Aquifer (This is very important!)
Trees: Forested or Heavily Forested
Temperature: Warm
Surroundings: Calm or at least not Sinister, Haunted, or Terrifying
Clay or Soil is important to make farming easier when starting out
Shallow Metals (That's Metals, plural, not Metal. You want more than one.)
A River if possible
Deep Metal(s) if possible
Flux Stone if possible
You may want to use the find tool to help you find a site. You may find it easier to put only some of the criteria into the tool (at the very least, No Aquifer). Once the find tool has finished running, the general areas which it has found will be indicated by flashing characters on the map.[/quote]

Unless it (for some reason) makes them do their job faster, no they don't. Broker doesn't require an office at all, and the other two don't have their needs go up.

Ponds, brooks and caverns are all the goddamn time empty
Fish them out of stuff in moments, then never see another fish again.
I mine into mountains [del]and stone keeps piling in my way of constructions, how do I solve this problem?[/del]
How do I make the stone ground able to be farmed, if it is possible?
And how to get only a specific item out of a dump?

I knew one didn't but couldn't remember which. I usually have my bookkeeper, manager, and broker one person in the beginning, so at this point I don't even know. I usually assign them multiple noble positions depending on the position, and in this case an expedition leader gets replaced by mayor which does require a better office.

You have to put water on stone in order to turn into farm able mud. Either lightly flood a room with floodgate controls or do an old fashion bucket dump.
Also, is it in any way possible to make peace with every Civilization? I want to become a heretic and befriend Goblins. And Elves. Maybe.
Welp, my first fort crumbled. Some people went insane, some people went berzerk and just outright started killing people, some just starved, miasma was all over the place...
[SUB]i fucking love this game[/SUB]

Excuse my stupidity but how would I do a bucket dump?

In regards to Masterwork DF, how do libraries work? I mean, I've got the scriptorium set up, but one of the reagents required to make an essay is 'Tool'.
What is tool?

[del]I'm not 100% sure of it, but it could just mean a farming implement. I'll take a look at the raws.[/del]
EDIT: It's referring to a "BLANK_LIBRARY" item. I think it means something blank that can be written on.
EDIT2: It's vellum to be specific, if I'm reading it right.

Personally, I just stick to making sure I've got a lot of soil/clay wherever I embark and just make all my farms at the top of my fortress.
Starting a Kobold Camp on MW.
The Kisses of Love, we set out for Clawhugged! Strike the dirt (with our shitty shovel)!

Wait wait wait, does Masterwork allow playing non-Dwarf civs in fortress mode?
[QUOTE=Lijitsu;39237962]Wait wait wait, does Masterwork allow playing non-Dwarf civs in fortress mode?[/QUOTE]
Yep. Orcs and Kobolds.
I haven't actually tried out the other races yet, maybe it's time I do.
Oh. It's a little disappointing it's not more comprehensive, but I may actually have to have a separate install for Masterwork. Playing as other races in fortress mode was always something I wanted to mod in, but I never got enough energy to bash my head against the modding wall.
Does anyone have the link to the Bronzemurder comics?

The wiki actually has them, to my surprise (this wiki is really damn comprehensive, isn't it):

It's weird, when I first started playing a few years back, I thought you HAD to have wet ground to make farms. At the start of every fortress I immediately set up shops, and made sure we had a mechanic shop, then make a floodgate and set it up at the entrance of my farm, then dug through a pond into the farm and closed the gate when it was filled. It was more complicated than necessary (although I had more freedom for where I could make farms) but I got pretty good at setting things up quickly.
wasnt it actually like that in some version
Sometimes, rocks get in the way in my non-stone stockpiles and my dwarves seem to ignore them even when I had a stone stockpile nearby. God, it's annoying.
Meanwhile, my dwarves keep falling into a well in the underground hospital. Water everywhere.
