So a while back I identified a dwarf vampire and locked him in a 3x3 room, part of my anti-invader defense which involves flooding the entrance room and having him dig himself out and take the bad guys on underwater.
Turns out once I got enough dwarves to get a mayor, they voted the vampire into mayor position.
So now I have a vampire, sitting in a 3x3 room, shouting demands at the walls. No furniture or anything.
The terrain it's on doesn't need to be muddied, look at the pic. It's not rock or anything, but normal sand/silt. And the farm plot is already built there.
But its got a jagged edge, that can't be a farm plot unless its like, 3 different plots made into strips.
It looks like the same tile associated with the bottom of ponds, water doesn't evaporate easily on those tiles.

that's how empty farm plots look like :v:
or do you mean the red edge areas? that's just red sand wall

I'm pretty sure it's just yellow crops in the top left corner.
Reading this thread, I think I'm going to start playing this game. Just later. I'm in the middle of robotics build season, and if I start this, I don't think I would get anything done.
I'm pretty sure it's just yellow crops in the top left corner.
No it'sa weirdly shaped farm plot is all, but the same thing happens with most rectangular plots too.
I don't understand the witnesses system.
I've had a vampire in my fort for about two years now, s/he's killed five dwarves and one gremlin. All of them have happened in the dining hall/barracks, yet there have been no witnesses.
Either my dwarves are blind, or do I need a captain of the guard/hammerer or something?
Since my vampire is king he has diplomatic immunity.
He doesn't even hide the fact he is a vampire.

A captain of the guard/sheriff is who anyone will report crimes to. So if they did see anything, thats where they'd go. Also make sure to have a metal cage/chains set up as a jail and used for justice, otherwise theyll just beat the vampire and leave him be.

Or the dwarves could just be stupid and blind.
Usually vampires accuse ducks and cats of murder.
Oh god. Vampire killed my mayor...
"Urist McMayor's mandate has ended" :v:
dwarves finally started using the archery range!
i upped my popcap to 80 since i'm not getting too much lag and i'd like to have some sieges to test out all 8 of my military force. so i suddenly got an immigrant wave of 23 dwarves and had a weretapir show up simultaneously. he fucked up my bowdwarf's hip and hand though, pretty soon literally my entire military will be cripples
Are Orcs any fun to play as? I see Kobold camps and Dorf Forts, but never an Orc Citadel
I have a separate Masterwork install set up for Orcs, but I haven't played them yet. Too sucked into my Kobold camp. From reading the manual they look fun, though.
Goblins keep stealing my babies. I should train a military a little better than mu current squad of militia, but God dammit learning the military screen is hard.
What are you having trouble with?
My hunter tries to return his kill, but upon crossing the path of a wild animal, he drops the corpse and flees. How can I get the corpse butchered now?
Starting up Cute Kobald camp now, is there any documentation on the new features?

flood the world with magma
Go to the butcher shop, set up an order to butcher a dead animal. You may have to tell them to collect bodies from outside first via your [o]rders list.
I finally captured my vampire. I caught him through the slab method, I forgot I could do that.
Anyways, what are some fitting punishments? I already have a 2000 day prison sentence for him, but it needs more... flesh stripping.

Capture a huge amount of buzzards and let them out in the same room as him, and watch him get pecked to death or atleast wounded by the flock of birds
Finally found and killed the vampire. I sent him into the caverns armed with a bismuth bronze pickaxe, he ran from a giant eyeless tick and feathered leech for a good five minutes before they caught up with him and ripped his legs and left arm off.
I would have made him my eternal bookkeeper or something but he's killed so many dwarves...
I can't wait until robotics ends. They can operate without a Captain/lead programmer, right?

I hope I die well my first time. Not from something boring like water shortage.
I felt SO PROUD when I managed to create a self sustaining fort for the first time. I had a system whereby I could periodically refill my well from a nearby river. I even had pump in place should my well accidentally flood.
THEN:
water goes from river to well -> didn't account for water level -> well floods -> activate pumps ( and forgot to close floodgates to river) -> pumps pull water out of fort, up to surface. where it creates a huge puddle, which due to my lack of knowledge for the way water works in this game, eventually starts flowing into the main entrance of my fort.
Long story short, I designed a highly elaborate system that basically channelled the nearby river directly into my main entrance.
There was one survivor, A miner in the lowest point who managed to wall himself into a tiny room before the water reached him.
I ask you:
Abandon mine, or see what happens:?
I found an underground cavern, but rather that immediately explore it I linked it to the main fort by a series of narrow, trap filled passages witch lead to a secondary barracks, which includes a floodgate that will, at the flip of a switch, block off the rest of the fort and flood said barracks (and anything beyond) with water.
Am I being paranoid, or just forward thinking?
...And then you get a trap-avoiding, swimming forgotten beast who can destroy buildings. :v:

Find a way to free him, and do a 1 man fort.

He doesn't have a pick. It's either have him remove the wall that stands between him and drowning, or watching him starve.
Also: I decided the dwarves in this game sort of remind me of the dwarves from Oglaf:

It menaces with spikes of live snakes.

No pick?
But he's a miner, i thought those guys were born with pick in hand.
Side note, started playing this again.
Not used to dwarves using wheelbarrows.

Constructions can't be destroyed by building destroyers.

I think I'll take the best of both worlds. I have some wild alligators I might be able to catch, so I'll do that, and also dig a nice deep pit. Then I'll drop him into a pit of alligators.
I'll feel like a pirate. Yarr.
