Badgers happened.
Jreengus occured.
What, nobody?
I was walking to class this morning talking with a friend who enlightened me on the greatness of turkeys
Apparently he had a few in a pen much too small and one ended up pecking another to death.
I'm going to attempt to make WAR TURKEYS with the raws.
For some reason they only peck each other once they turn into adults.
Right. I have the current version, and out of ignorance, I installed Orkel's brain fix. It seems to work okay for me, I haven't noticed anything besides reducing the amount of skull cave ins.
Why is the brain fix considered unusable in this version? Now I fear I've changed something important.
Rip Webby, taken too soon
Best giant cave spider of 1067
I'm guessing it's a good idea to seperate animals based on their type?
I think I'm playing the game wrong if the only combat logs I've gotten is from your domesticated animals fighting each other

Do elephants hold grudges?

All animals do that if their pen is too small.

Time to wall off that entrance, hope that moat saves you, or let it burn. Maybe if the magma is flowing slowly enough, you could build a wall there against the moat to ward the magma off.

It's flowing out very very slowly, so yeah I've had plenty of time to ensure that my dwarves will be safe, it's just that the rest of the map won't be

I have not been able to find this answer. What is the highest population that triggers something. Is it 80? I want to limit my population to something manageable without avoiding sieges and stuff.

140 is required to get the monarch, but I believe 80 is as high as you have to get for anything else.
Thank you! I'll limit my population to 81 until I find the need for a Monarch at some point.

Never trust the blood thirsty elephants
I was wondering why my forts are so boring compared to those you see online, then I realised it was because i was playing in a peaceful area. I'm ordering the miners to redirect the river straight into the main entryway while it's still frozen for winter. I plan to keep going until the water reaches the lowest point, then im going to try and colonise the small island of maximum fuck, with its eyeball grass.

T'is more fun (both ways) if you're reckless - kill caravans, dig deep, make lava central heating for your fortress, etc
So I'm dicking about as an elf in adventure mode, killed five lairdwellers by biting them.
went into town to sell my loot and went down a staircase, and a goblin knocked me out and murdered me.
It was not fun

Reminds me of the time my friend tried out adventure mode after getting the hang of fortress mode. He saw the skills biting and throwing and decided it'd be a good idea to dump every point evenly into those two and nothing else.
He kinda wandered about, throwing shit at vultures and biting them when they were down. It was surprisingly effective until he eventually got killed when something he was biting panicked and scratched out his eyes.
I don't think he's touched adventurer mode since :v:

You mean you're not supposed to dump all your points in knapping?
my god
So, are there necromancer towers? I keep hearing stories of necromancer sieges.
Is there a mod that lets you play as necromancers? I want to rule a bone kingdom.

Yes, they appear as an I on the world map. Yes they siege you occasionally and it's very tough to fight off. You don't need a mod in Adventure mode, you just need to get to a Necro tower and read the slab that they did, you will instantly become a Necromancer too.
I would not advise using miners that also do craft skills for the same reason you should probably disable hauling on them: they need to be mining, not wasting their time dragging shit around
The way I do it is I have my first miners dig everything out in the first year that I'll need for a while, and then switch the labor over to some migrants and have them train by digging out Z-levels with stone on them, and digging to find a magma pipe. Then I take my experienced miner/armor/weaponsmith get them to pump out iron equipment after they've proved themselves in the mines. My mining team is usually made up of 8 or so migrants that eventually become big, burly, kick ass miners.
Seriously, if you don't want to lose a dwarf train him in legendary mining skill. A thief got into your fort and tried to stab your dwarf with level 15+ mining? I hope that thief enjoys dwarven fist in their brain.
I made my first fortress a while ago and holy shit everything that happens is crazy.
I begin with cutting down some trees and building basic things like a house.
Everything goes fine, no idlers and they're happy and drink some and eat some.

Aw fuck! There is no alcohol or water left.
After that death and some others I decided to do one thing you should not do, give up.
I decided to force my dwarves down in the mine and drown them.

I changed my mind after he hit that wall. They built a new mine after and tried to pump out water from the old one.
Years go by and I receive many immigrants, about 100 dwarves after 2-3 years.
They were too many for me to handle.

Losing is fun.
Also, I added the [TRAINABLE] tag to a cougar, but it's not letting me train it for war. What gives?
Also, I added the [TRAINABLE] tag to a cougar, but it's not letting me train it for war. What gives?
Did you edit your world raws, or the game's raws? If you want it in your current game, you'll have edit the raws in your world's folders.
Isn't there a war trainable tag that's different to just trainable?
Because some animals are exclusive for war or hunting.
