military will kill whatever they're set to, even the bloody, sad mole dogs.
at least i think they would
I kinda don't want to, one died and people are so sad.

Won't they make a hugeass cloud of miasma everywhere?
So I've been playing some adventure mode as of late I finally killed enough vampires to let a king give me a fantastic quest.
The first quest i undertook on this character:

I have to kill Nesteth Larkmighty the Courage of Paging, an ettin. So I travel for several days living off the blood of unfortunate snapping turtles and vulture meat and whatnot. I finally arrive to find a tiny hole in the ground surrounded by blood, bodies, and assorted limbs. As I approach the hole The ettin yells the usual "prepare to be murderated" speech followed by me throwing a marmot through her left head and then proceeding to beat the absolute hell out of her. She fought valiantly, but fighting a master dodger is more or less impossible unless they accidentally jump off a cliff or into lava or some other silly thing. The fight lasted for some ridiculous period of time (I took the time to drink blood twice) before she finally bled to death. This is her just before she died:
[img_thumb]http://puu.sh/1RS7Q[/img_thumb]
Everything was broken and she was still taking swings at me.

People are also sick. This is going bad.

That's Jolly Bastion, it's great: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=104261.0
Decided to start a new fort after not playing for ages, Everything went perfectly until about halfway through year one, where I managed to run out of food and alcohol, get two waves of migrants, and realize that I can't lay out a fort to save my life.
Time for take two!
Why did i introduce all those people to this?
I mean it's great that we can all enjoy and talk about it, but i'm getting loads of texts about, Aquifers, flux stone, temperatures, wereslugs, how to dig downwards etc.
I hate knowing things.

Hit yourself over the head with a 2x4. Even if it doesn't stop you from knowing things, people will probably stop asking.
Started a new fort, I'm attempting to build the entrance over a large river, but there's a large sponge in the river that's scaring all the workers away. Whyyyyyy.

Cave the entire mountain onto the sponge right the fuck now and make sure the region is inhospitable for the rest of time.
Giant sponges are no fucking joke.
Huh. so I tried to make a garbage incinerator out of the volcano my fort is built into.
Constructed the room, dug a little channel for some magma to sit in...
poked a hole in the volcano... and lukily I decided to put a door on this room because the entire room instantly filled to 7/7 with magma and killed the miner so fast it never even announced his death.
So I built a wall across the door to tantrum-proof it, built stairs to get above it, and then poked a hole in the floor to access the magma.
There, garbage incinerator. All according to plan.
-Urist McMagmaMiner has been missing for a week-
started a new fort, everything going fine when after some time, the fortress ran out of water, booze and there wasn't enough food to convert it into booze, everyone started to die like flies and trowing tantrum or going berseker

I get the feeling it would cause an immediate loyalty cascade.

What if they were flagged "berserk" right before hand?

I mean yeah the parents might not be too pleased and get a couple unhappy thoughts while they're eating urist mcdwarfchops, but I'm sure they'll be happier later once they pass through the masterwork statue garden.

Started new a new fortress, and only a 100~ foot away is patrol of Sparrow Men, lingering in the distance, but not attacking, and I have a single 1 man squad. First fortress having enough trouble as it is just getting custom stockpiles to work and they are making me paranoid, little flickering group of "s".
Offtopic-ish: Anyone here played Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup (http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/) before? First time playing a rouge-like and I love it! Although I have been playing on android and it's fuckin hard with the on screen keyboard. It's what made me want to play DF. Also, can anybody recommend me other good rouge-likes, may have found a genre I really love!

Last i knew, if they started on the site when you embarked, they should be friendly. I remember a story of someone embarking somehow next to a massive, above ground kobold camp. The whole camp liked them.
And then a thief showed up, was discovered, and tried to flee through the camp.
He was slaughtered.
The immediate result of this was a loyalty cascade, causing the camp to very quickly and violently split in two until a small group of kobolds were left alive.
And then a siege showed up and steamrolled them on the way to the fort.
Such is life in DF.

It's stories like these. I feel like I'm playing a book it's amazing, I don't know why I didn't start playing them before. I relied to heavily on 3D RPG's to get my fix of these kinds of worlds. Graphics really get in the way of game play development.

Just wait for all of the seige stories; I remember my last fort of almost 200 dwarves was slaughtered by a marauding group of kobold spear-men. A friend of mine on skype was given an hour long diary read-out of the Mayors plan to keep everyone safe, beginning with an optimistic and confident entry of the Mayors attempt to kill all of the kobold with one squad by opening the doors to the fortress and leading the group into a choke point. By the end it was only him, twenty or so children, and a master engraver that was writing the names of the dead into the wall on the lowest level of the fort, with the sounds of the last civilians screaming and the horrid laughter of the kobold resonating up from above.
....I think I gave the poor lad nightmares.
Also, does someone possessed always claim a workshop? Urist McBroker, in keeping with the curse I have, has decided that because he is the only dwarf I have that doesn't specialize in creating any kind of object that he'd be the one to get possessed. He woke up one morning in his room and gained devine inspiration, immediately jumping out of bed and sprinting through the hallways. The problem, however, was that he raced immediately to a poor fisherman's room and is now standing there day and night, staring Paranormal Activity like at the man as he sleeps. He's been doing this for the past two months.
I'd read any book where a dwarf decapitates a rampaging elderdemon with a thrown sock.

or gets their kneecaps torn off by a slow lorris
Jolly Bastion is the prettiest God damn tileset/colors.
Oh wow I can't coordinate z levels.
I dug a channel so I could have a bridge at entrance but I forgot I had dug out below it. Surprisingly there wasn't a cave in but now I'm getting kobolds landing on my dinner table every few minutes :v:

Bug... Or feature?
Bug... Or feature?
Make them butcherable and they shall be lunch.
So apparently severed limbs can rot into bones, which can be used for crafts, even from sentients.
Normally you just get a partial skeleton or a skeleton that can't be used for bone crafts since they are from sentients.
I became a necromancer
None can stand before my 200 strong tsunami of corpses and assorted limbs/heads.
I know I'm going to get taken down by a fish or something lame like every other adventurer, but by armok am I going to lay waste to the land.
