True dorf gets lead 100% of the time :v:
Actually I'm not even kidding about this, I had one fort where that was about 80% of my ore. I did have coal, but I had just complete ass-loads of lead. I had to order other metals from the dwarven caravan.
[editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
The other 20% was small amounts of gold, silver, and like copper I think. Decent, but only two were weapons-grade.
A TRUE dwarf doesn't just make do, a true dwarf weaponises whatever he can't otherwise use.
Minecart grapeshot.
New devlog:
I've got the goblins mostly incorporated into their conquered towns, with the former citizens properly differentiated and a bit grumpy. I still have to fiddle with the overarching war-type historical events and other debris, but the next main part is to talk up one of the citizens living under the new regime. That needs to be brought up to the point of playability, so that you get some feedback and direction.
I totally miss being able to embark on towns and shit.
So many towns and buildings dropped into a pit.

Masterwork comes packaged with a utility that allows you to embark anywhere
And thus, Bloodybanner the Imperial Bane of Chesnuts was conceived into this world, an aspiration to become a fortress of great renown through their ability to cast great obsidian works.
[editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
And that came to a glorious halt when the volcano started spewing molten death upon my unsuspecting dwarves as the idiots managed to fuck up the pouring mechanic of the great obsidian caster mark I, thanks Obama.

I don't remember how, but I once wound up embarking on a human settlement with 7 story tall temple made of solid platinum.
A real dorf embarks where the ground is literally worms and skeletal poop flies around killing everything.
Some child made an artifact bone short sword. Relative to metal materials - how well will that weapon fare in the hands of a dwarf?
Some child made an artifact bone short sword. Relative to metal materials - how well will that weapon fare in the hands of a dwarf?
Better in the hands of the next caravan.
As far as i know, a legendary weapon only has a higher chance of hitting and doesn't do more damage. Even if i did do more damage it wouldn't be able to penetrate shit, so while pretty damn awesome, kinda useless.
Bone weapons are for hammerers.
Bone weapons are for hammerers.
But the last bone hammer I got weighed like, nothing. I don't understand how it could have been useful in the slightest.

Exactly, it's the perfect punishment.
Imagine how annoying it'd get if a guy followed you around and repeatedly whacked you with an inflatable mallet for a month straight.
But the last bone hammer I got weighed like, nothing. I don't understand how it could have been useful in the slightest.
Hammerers beat the shit out of your population to keep them in check. Bone weapons will prevent them from injuring your dwarves.
[sp]Adamantium[/sp]/ Cottoncandy, wood, bone, etc. warhammers are given to your fort's Hammerer. When the mayor punishes an innocent dwarf for breaking a mandate, this wa ythe poor fella won't get injured.

My prisoners were so excited because of my artifact inflatable candy warhammer that was being used by the hammerer hitting them when they were supposed to be punished. One of my dwarves had their wife and kid lost to a siege, but he was beaten to happiness in my engraved native gold cell.

If any sentence could accurately sum up the nature of DF...
Does mist go through fortifications?
Does mist go through fortifications?
Can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure it does.
But the last bone hammer I got weighed like, nothing. I don't understand how it could have been useful in the slightest.
Yeah don't listen to him, what your hammerer really needs is a slade maul.
How do you assign hammers to hammerers?

Punishment device and doomsday lever in one handy tool!
Wait I'm confused
I went into the testing Arena to see how well Slade weapons work vs. Candy, knowing that the testing Arena has Slade weapons.
There were no Slade weapons. Is this intentional and the wiki is full of shit, or is it a bug?

Slade is an unminable and thus unobtainable material that has like some completely fucking absurd density and mass. As it is unobtainable, there are no crafting recipies regarding it.
If it were an obtainable material and could be crafted, it would make silver warhammers look like they were made of wiffle bats and tape.

I know it's unusable in Fortress mode, but isn't it supposed to be usable in the object testing Arena?
It is possible to use weapons made out of this extremely dense material in Arena mode - tests show that weapons and armor made out of this superdense rock are at least comparable to if not stronger than even adamantine.
What is the lore actually surrounding Slade and adamantite, I got confused when I was reading about it
So I got back into DF after 2 years of not playing. I dabbled a bit with a random fort and then decided to try out Masterwork. I read a bit about it, it looked pretty cool.
And then I ran into the rock/metalwraiths. On my most recent attempt at a fort I brought some bronze weapons in case I ran into some. Sure enough, on the second floor down 3 rockwraiths spawned at once. My little dudes never stood a chance.
Blow after blow from my dorfs hammers and spears bounced off the rocky foes. Strangely enough the most damage one of them suffered was when one of my dorfs bit its chest open.
So basically I'm asking for any tips on handling those sons of bitches. I could just turn Harder Mining off but I'm enjoying the challenge so far.

IIRC, when life was created, demons started showing up and wrecking house, so the gods tried to trap them underground with slade and lava. When this didn't work, the gods went to plan B and kept them down with adamantine spires, somehow.

I think they used candy to seal the holes that were in the slade.
