Just don't try putting zombies into magma pits, they don't die.
I had endless spam of "The elf corpse is caught in Magma" until I got water down there and encased them in obsidian. Even then they weren't dead, so it's all dwarven atom smashers from now on.
why must silk be so hard to get.
i've already lost 2 dwarves to moods because the only thing I was missing was silk.

Are you sure you didn't disable temperature
Doing so makes drowning the only danger of magma
That's why one of the top things you buy with extra dorfbux from traders is bins of silk and silk thread. Buy things you need, then silk and other cloth, then animals, then food. Makes it easy to fashion new clothes when their current ones get old too.
Elven caravans only have plant cloth. Humans have plant, yarn and leather. Dwarves have all of them. Prevent a sock crisis, always keep your cloth stocks high.

No, it's a bug that zombies don't melt in magma. You can add a boiling point to their body parts to fix it, but for the moment it just makes things annoying.
Anyone have advice on how do deal with Kobold thieves? I just started making a squad but I don't think they have any weapons. Also, how far do you have to dig usually to find materials to make copper?
I downloaded Masterwork a little while back, and have been running around in Adventurer mode. However, in certain chunks of the map, my game crawls to a slow inching pace, as if your speed was dropped a tremendous amount. Does anyone know why that happens? Some kind of secret underground fun that's only applicable in Fortress mode but mills about in the background while you're above ground?
My miner just breached the caverns and dropped dead from dehydration next to a massive pool of water. Whyyyy.

Better dead then sober.

I always see kobolds just run away as soon as they get spotted by whatever so I don't think you should worry about forming a militia for them (could just be me though). Best safeguard is to chain dogs at the entrance to your fort.
Finding minerals depends mostly on where you dig and the mineral frequency set when the world was generated. Generally speaking you should find something like copper within 5ish Z-levels down. Of course if you have a mountain to dig into you'll find valuables right away.
i'd really like to get into this game, but the graphics are a major reason to not play it, seems like it'd give me headaches pretty fast
any skins or tile-set's that can make the game a little more pretty?

looks better, thanks man
I fucked up sooo bad. I thought my so called army (swordsmen thugs) could take on everything. I didn't give them any armor due to the lack of metal to equip all 30 of them, and the coffin business was booming thanks to those ogres underground. I was in the middle of doing some military re-organization to set up a serious squad, and then a goblin ambush sneaks in with the elven caravan. I thought my troops could take them.

I was dead wrong. Now there are only 5 left, and 3 of them are useless children.

You seem to have the wrong graphics settings or something, everything is mighty aliased.

Yeah it looks kinda strange.
Look how pleasant my map looks in comparison.

I think that's because its a massive image shrunken down - opening in a new tab makes it look fine for be.
Compare for example the ramps next to the river in each image, you'll see how much smoother mine look.
My first casualty, a wrestler was mauled by a black bear. But not before he punching out all of its teeth. I think I'll engrave the walls around his coffin.
This game is amazing but i'm having a problem, my forts run amazingly well up until i hit the 10th migrant wave or so and i'm sitting at 150+ dorfs, they are all happy, the booze is flowing etc but only for a short time, soon they get grouchy, i can't shit out enough beds for individual rooms and shit just goes tits up, be it a siege, hill giant or otherwise and i still dunno wot to do.
Population limit until you learn to manage legions of filthy immigrants dwarves. Try to create a class based society.

Not enough beard on the woman. Speaking of which, there is a picture I've lost and cannot find of a dwarf queen with a beard and a pink dress with tiara covered in mud, blood and vomit.

Alternatively, focus on being efficient with your opulence. Focus on improving communal things like legendary dining rooms, statue gardens, wells etc. Only once these are good enough should you focus on luxuries for individual dwarves (like bedrooms). That way, you can have ecstatic forts with very little effort.
My ~250 pop fort's lowest civilian happiness is "content" and I didn't even plan on it. I just instinctively engraved the shit out of my dining room and meeting garden. Most of the time, 3/4's of the fort had no possessions to speak of and they were still orgasming around the halls.

doesn't that end with invaders up the wazoo?
It is really easy to defend from invaders once you get traps or walls and drawbridges
I accidentally dug into a fuckoff huge lava pool like 50 z levels tall and it's now trying to drain into my stairs at a whopping 0 fps, ooft!

Now you're mining like a true dwarf!
Now you're mining like a true dwarf!
in related news i'm trying to stop the computer eating flow of lava by collapsing a cavern on it whilst a Jabberer tears the ever loving fuck out of my population upstairs. It's going well!
EDIT: Nevermind i got ambushed by goblins too, i was about to reel the drawbridge in and hold my knob in the relative (yeah) safety of my fort when i realised that i hadn't actually hooked it up, oops. Now there's spears on one end and lava on the other!
