Apparently capping @ 240 is slow by reddit standards though :suicide:.
240 on what map?
Oh wait.
THAT must be the reason I feel like I'm doing monumentally better than when I played months before.
All of these Steam newcomers must really fucking suck.
:v:
Thats got to be it. I mean, how many experienced players would try to cap the flag as a Doombringer? Seriously. I've had that happen. A Doombringer absolutely flew past me going 5, maybe even 10 km/h. Sustained fire from me and my two turrets solved that problem though.
Ever think you've capped the flag, but you really haven't? And you get typekilled standing around your own base?
No? Just me then...
Ever think you've capped the flag, but you really haven't? And you get typekilled standing around your own base?

Sometimes I'll have the flag, be racing along to my base, and when I finally cross our flag thinking "I capped it!" nothing happens. Because, at some point, something knocked the flag from me.
I seriously wish there was some sort of very clear and obvious notification as to when you drop the flag. I couldn't say how many times I've made it halfway across the map only to discover that I don't have the damn flag any more.

Depends. If that Doombringer is blazing past your base at 240km/h spamming VGW, there is definitely something wrong going on. Unless it's a Brute, in which case you should just ignore him.
Wow people on reddit are determined to make this game go down burning in flames.
This is not true.
There is a very vocal minority (read: a handful of comp players (some from top teams) that are also Redditors) that are getting very upset with Hi-Rez' incompetence as of late. It is not inherently r/tribes.
The catalyst to this recent outcry being HiRezTodd's recent statement on the Hi-Rez forums that "demo recording is off the road map", since many people agree that demos are a vital thing for an e-sport (#clutch) to grow.
The competitive community's argument is that Hi-Rez began marketing T:A as the next big eSport, but have seriously failed to deliver some very basic, very much needed fixes to the game that have been major problems for a very long time that, despite HR's awareness to these issues, have not been fixed.
Some of the biggest demands from the competitive community, and how long they've been problems:
-Add demo support (has been anticipated for a long time (HR said they were planning it))
-Add ranked matchmaking (a while, has been getting more attention lately)
-Better, more balanced maps (a long time)
-Sentinel nerfs (a long time)
-Chasing buffs (a long time; granted, HR has made some attempts to help, but generally ended up failing, such as...)
-Fix the LAR (since the last patch, when it was made "hold to fire" but seriously gimped by its much lower ROF)
-Bridge the huge gap between the competitive and casual communities, esp. unacceptable because T:A is marketed as an eSport (been getting worse over time for a while now)
-Don't drop focus on T:A for SMITE (which will never surpass LoL or DotA 2 as a MOBA eSport, sorry but it just won't) (recent, as T:A's team was cut in half (now only 12 people) so more people could work on SMITE)
-Fix simple, often game-breaking bugs that have been around for far too long, as well as should have (and could have!) been fixed during Beta (way too many to list, but some big ones are: people getting kicked to menu after each game (last patch!), game not launching/can't connect to server issue (I think this one is just a Steam issue but I'm not totally sure), flags sometimes stop functioning (rare, but has been around for several months), 33+ players being in the same game (more common with recent update but has been around a while), "play now" button disappearing (a while))
-Actually listen to what the competitive community suggests (HR often ignores some of these issues even though they try to give the illusion that they aren't: see the Tribal Council, which brought up some very good points, very few of which were actually acted on)
-Modding/mapping tools (a long time, HR response generally being "we don't have the assets to make these tools, + we know best about how to makes maps")
-Add custom crosshairs (a long time)
-Make some simple adjustments that would seriously benefit balance (Jackal, whiteout grenades, smoke grenades, Fractal grenades all need some sort of change) (long time)
A few other issues that aren't directly tied to competitive play but are still seriously inhibiting T:A's success:
-(Supposedly innocent) players being permanently banned without explanation, with no way to appeal except make a huge fuss about it publicly
-Very little communication and transparency between Hi-Rez and the community
-T:A is terribly optimized and runs very poorly compared to other games run on the same engine (pretty much since pre-alpha release)
-Accolade system currently encourages DMing over flag play; still no proper set of accolades for chasing (looong time)
This isn't just a case of competitive players being babies, and it never really has been. Hi-Rez has solidified themselves in the eyes of the community -- at least, the community that keeps up with these things -- as frustratingly incompetent and oblivious. The talk of "RIP Tribes: Ascend", "T:A is dead" -- it may not necessarily be true, but when the influx of Steam players subsides and the tournaments with prize-money end, there is a serious risk that the comp community will dry up, unless Hi-Rez straightens up their act. As it is right now, T:A is not an eSport, despite what Hi-Rez markets it as, and it won't be until they make these very obvious, very oft-mentioned, very easy to make adjustments.
most if not all teams that are competing in fpsgeneral are quitting tribes after they get the money and barely any new teams are sprouting out other than the ones that took part in the newbloods tournament.
Whoa what? I don't really keep up to date with all the news of Tribes, I just play it. Does anybody feel like giving me a quick rundown? I love the shit out of this, I don't want it to die for some crap reason.

Most is a gross overstatement, but there are a good number of people threatening to quit. I don't know how many teams are quitting. Working as Intended disbanded as a team, but that's because the EU scene is being absolutely ripped apart from this whole mess -- NA teams are still pretty healthy. Plus I think a few of WAI's players still play anyway.
Also, something I forgot to mention in my other post was an in-game clan/team system, with clan tags, and an in-game ladder/tournament system, which are pretty standard in eSports nowadays.
hirez isn't listening to the comp players and confirmed that demo recording is "off the road map" which means the game is pretty much never going to grow competitively.

My other post is probably as generalized as it's going to get. You can skip the bulletpoints, as they're just elaborating, but the rest is the summary.

I think, given the huge outburst over the "no demos" statement, that Hi-Rez is going to go back on that and actually add demo support. They simply can't ignore the backlash it caused to throw it away.

I did read through your post before I posted, not skimmed, but some of it still goes over my head a bit. I'm guessing eSports are like what's happening with that Tribes "win money" tournament? Not to mention that I don't know any names important to Hi-Rez, so I wouldn't know who's who and why they're important.
My best guess is that HR isn't delivering what they promise? Is that the gist of it? And why aren't they? Is it just general incompetence or do they have a reason?

General incompetence. They're aware of the unrest and they're aware of the demands the comp community is making, but they're doing very little about it, and what they do do generally backfires.
Another thing I forgot to mention: projectile inheritance is still at 50%, despite the majority thinking it should be 100%, as it's far more realistic and newbie-friendly. HR's response is that they "internally tested it, and found that 50% was much more fun/easy to play with", which is a load, as it's not what we as humans naturally think should happen (because it isn't).
and that's another fuckup. hirez thinks internally testing stuff before releasing or patching means it's okay because they have no problems with it. sure internal testing is fine, but not when none of the members are competent players or is even in the competitive scene of the game.

They where tying to buy non-competitive players to join the game but they fail and they fuck up the game for the competitive side.
Now they know they fucked up pretty hard so they move to the next game. Quite sad indeed.

As if the flag icon disappearing in the lower left corner, flag icon changing in the upper middle, the nitron sound and damage, the (Possible) boost of speed from the nitron, the large bold letter in the middle of the screen, or the change in music weren't enough.... what do you suggest they add?

I don't notice any of that.
There's a flag icon in the lower left corner?
I don't look at the icons at the top when I'm running for my life, and I don't hear the sound or receive any damage that I can't account for normal getting shot.
What large bold letter?
And the music keeps going even when I drop the flag.
Of course, I've only carried the flag once recently, and that was a successful cap, so all of that might have been added in an update and I didn't notice yet.
there should be an excruciatingly loud siren noise and strobe light effect all the time for every pathfinder that doesn't have the flag
for heavies it happens when you do have the flag
Can't stand Juggernaut and Doombringer. Such fucking pests.
Screw the DMB mines too when playing as Pathfinder.
Infiltrator claymores I am okay with.

IMO, Hi-Rez is a really poor and unorganized company. They ran Global Agenda into the ground and then abandoned it (there hasn't been any word on it in over six months) for Tribes: Ascend, and now they're reducing focus on Tribes to work on SMITE, a mediocre MOBA which is seriously just bound to fail. They make promises to the community they can't keep, and they are extremely bad at balancing (Seriously, Global Agenda gameplay feels like a unpolished clusterfuck and same with SMITE, its like they don't even understand how the DOTA genre works.)
[editline]3rd July 2012[/editline]
Also, its so blatantly obvious that weapons they release like the Jackal, Plasma Gun, Gladiator etc. are blatant upgrades over the default weapons. Pushing the game towards Pay2Win like that will only hurt the game in the long run, they will get a short boost in sales from people looking that power, but over time it'll just make people fed up with the imbalanced guns and quit the game. New weapons should be respectable counterparts, not direct upgrades.
Don't you just love it when the absolute second you cap the winning flag, Tribes "runs out of memory?" I've got 4 gigs, and while that's not exactly impressive, the game runs smooth. At least, until, it just dies for no apparent reason. And it's always when I get the winning cap.
I've had games where I got all 5 caps, but then when I got the 5th one, it crashed. Is there something about the game ends that takes up more ram or what?
240 on what map?
That's pretty much on my better maps. Raindance and Arx.
I am perfecting the art of jumping and mortaring. For anyone unaware, if you do it just right and shoot a mortar while jumping, then shoot another one when you land you can get two shells hitting the same spot at the same time. Works even better with the MIRV.
I seriously had the Doomburgers themselves coming to kill me on Arx while I zoomed around to my favorite spots.
Two classes with retardedly powerful weapons with huge amounts of health.
Coupled with the fact that there is no class limits.
Class limits in a game with casual people is the worst. People with little skill hogging all the specialized classes so the people who are good at them and use them for what they're made for can't do their jobs.
If anything, having one DMB with super heavy on your flag is a class limit in itself, it's not like you can fit two superheavies on that tiny fucking flag stand. Go put up some forcefields or some shit you tub of lard.
Why even bother with forcefields when you can put superheavies in their place?
If anything, having one DMB with super heavy on your flag is a class limit in itself, it's not like you can fit two superheavies on that tiny fucking flag stand. Go put up some forcefields or some shit you tub of lard.
Pisses me off when I want to be hof (complete of mines and forcefieds and shiet) and someone else put his superheavy, mine-less ass on my flag.

I especially hate this when the fat tit cannot even budge one fucking centimetre to block the PTH with reach flying about 500 to the flagstand in a really predictable path and isn't even firing his spinfusor at him
I mean fuck there's bad DMBs and then there's just an inherent inability to play video games.
