that british female voice pack or w/e sounds like she's drunk half the time.
"AH AM SOOOO GUUD"
can you try the voice packs in training?
i cant play the game atm so i cant check
The patch is not released yet so we dont know
But I dont think we will able to test them out since you cant test out skins
Twinfusors only do about ~300 damage on a decent shot (Light Twin), not sure about splash.
its around 300 the splash damage. maybe 500~ direct hits. there is no direct hit on the video
I wonder if we'll start seeing some double blue plates..that would be crazy.
Ach.. I'm not surprised we can't buy the voicepacks with exp, but it'd have been a nice surprise, oh well, I'll show more support toward Tribes.
I was expecting a bit more helms for the skins, tho, generic Mercenary skin is also good.. I can picture whatever character I want when it's a complete suit.
Everything else is just looking good, though I cringed a bit when I saw the flag being inside the base and requiring to destroy the generator, but I'll wait and see how it turns out first.
Prepare your thumpers!

The flag-inside is actually quite interesting from a none-pub standpoint, it'll probably be a shitfest but it might be interesting.

I bet it will be alot more easier since Hirez will increase the hitbox of spinfusors
Note that Temple Ruins will be temporarily removed from the main Quick Play rotation. Several changes were made to the map. Unfortunately, a bug was created in the process that we found after final packaging (Repair Kit station does not work in one of the bases).
The map will still be available on Custom Servers until the bug is fixed.
nobody is going to play it on custom servers
Wonder how many months it'll be before it's fixed.
Yay party system!
The Aussie accent should be awesome.
"euyum the gruytest"

I have even more fps on max settings than I did on my other card at negative settings.

The update tomorrow looks awesome, the entire update is straight out of Tribes 2 and 1. Indoor flag, Dangerous Crossing, more voices, twinfusors, refocus on disc jumping. Lovin' it Jerry.

Im pretty excited about the new party system, too. I don't like that they're nerfing the Jackal but the new disk jumping should be great.

I can't wait to be a big fat girl shooting my big green tampons all over Permafrost.
hahahahaha the skins
Todd Harris' eyebrows remind me of the Muppets. Also holy shit green Sentinel jets. Those are going to be wonderfully easy to spot for the team.
Servers are down. 2-3 hours for patch.
The skins are still.. meh, imo.
Makes me even wonder if the guy who made the default skins and the newer ones are the same.
I'd really love aesthetical class customization.
Damn, how would it be to decide with or without helmet, upper armour tipe A, B or C, with jetpack shape A, B or C, with or without sleeves, etc.
Of course each class should have it's own set of decorations. To still tell them apart.
· But that would turn the game into a fuckfest where you can't tell apart a class from another!
Not if we make them unlockables to be obtained with levels: so bronzies are all default skins, silvers have 1/3 of the aesthetic differences to learn, golds have 3/5 of possible combinations to get used to, platinums 9/10 and final ranks have ONE more, really elitist, badass, choice right in your paesant's face.)
That way, recognizing a class would just be part of the learning curve.
That said, I (and probably many others) usually recognize a class by what they're doing and which weapon they're holding or fire. At the end, even if you recognize a class, how to deal with it comes down to which weapon it's holding. (contless times I ran in some jug's face on a hill to handle his ass to him, only to find out he had an x1lmg and got my ass handled instead)
·But lapsus_, that is dumb, what about me, who have spent 20$ already on a skin?
Gold obtainable skins should have, imo, just as many customization options as the others. Let people decide if they want the hood or not, the helmet or not, shoulder armour A or B, etc.
· Hah, hi-moneygrabbing-res cares only about revenue! they'll never deliver content to be obtained with level!
F2P games lives on micro transactions only. And I'd surely be bothered more going to the bank to put 20$ more in the card, than just use the 2,50$ I had there for a while. I bet my ass their revenue would at least triple. Not only that, it would make people care about gaining rank again (The last fuck I gave was lost as soon as I got to 25) and another reason to keep playing, sooner or later they'll buy a boost, a weapon or something to thank the devs.
· But that would be pubs-serving. It would hurt the competitive scene
option A: make competitive games aesthetically vanilla. There already are weapons banned from competitive, just ban decorations too, as easy as that.
option B: when the radar is on, make the class title appear on the icon too (PTH, SEN, INF, SLD) not only would it be idiotproof, but also one more reason to give fucks about the gen+radar!
· It has NOTHING to do with the lore.
Historically, every army had a certain degree of armour or helmet variations to tell apart a rookie from a general.
Think about the roman empire army: Centurion > decurion > soldier for example. It was true the past, as it is now, why isn't it reasonable that it will be like it far ahead in the future too?
tl;dr : I'm positive that a certain degree of eastetical class customazion could not only work well and make the game more interesting later on, the rank earning part in particular, but also bring some money to hi-res, making them focus more on tribes again. I'm also sure it won't turn the game into a fuckfest of sort and won't hurt the competitive scene through being regulated. Read above to know why.
[editline]25th July 2012[/editline]
I deam of a tribes with an UT3-like degree of customization
i was hoping that was what they'd do when they spoke about adding customisation
This patch is [VGCA]
I support the pay money to look fabulous, it is the complete opposite of pay2win. Still skins don't need to be ranked, that would just be to keep people playing and there is no reason to do that for a free 2 play game.
I've recently been playing another F2P multiplayer online shooter called Blacklight Retribution, it is basically F2P CoD so there is no need for a better description except that it has a better RPG system. Still, how it differs from tribes ascend is that it has a renting system where you for in-game currency can rent a weapon or a weapon part for a small amount of in-game currency. The problem is, you can pay for it with real-life currency. Why is this a problem you may ask, even tribes is doing this and it seems to work quite well. The difference between tribes and BLR is that Blacklight has levels, meaning you can't unlock a weapon with in-game currency before a certain level and the micro-transactions ignore this with a "early access" system where you can get what you want, when you want. A big problem with this is that like in tribes, some of these items are a straight upgrade or provide superior gameplay styles such as one-shot snipers and cloaks. Trying to get away from the higher level players, I joined a level 1-10 server to get beaten up by a guy with a hammer unlocked at level 25. So Blacklight does use the pay to save time model, but the items you can get are not available to anyone at that point.
What this has to do with the topic is: I am happy to get back to tribes where everything is available to anyone for in-game currency, except from cosmetic items and boosters and the only form of progression is a system that defines the experience of the people you play against.
