Even tought this is a stupid answer, have you tried repairing the game first?
It needs... something? It's far too expensive for what it is.
In my opinion it should have an 7 round capacity and take the price down so it's only a little more than the shotgun (maybe £100 more). Then it'd be a decent tier 1 shotty rather than a bad tier 1 and pointless tier 2.
Well, the Golden/Regular Combat Shotgun is kinda awful. I don't see where that gun is supposed to fit in at all. The Vlad is more awesome in closed spaces due to the ricochet function, and the shotgun where you can change fire type is far more useful and much, much cheaper.
I find it useful for fighting the patriarch, you can quickly unload both your aa12 and the combat shotgun into him before he has the chance to run away. Basically the only advantage it offers is high burst damage. It also might come in handy for soloing fleshpounds, but if you have a decent team you won't really need to do that.

Chuck a nade or two at his chest, alt fire, another nade, then once you've reloaded alt fire again.

I tried the KSG and did horribly, even though everyone likes to brag about how "powerful" it is. I can't kill anything with it. When I get my combat shotgun and aa-12 I can kill everything (sans patriarch, of course) solo. Also not a fan of the vlad impaler, either. I don't see how the ricochet function is useful, even in tight hallways.
The KSG is more of a medium range shotgun. It's not that great at close range and I just use it because my playstyle favors magazine based reloads versus the drawn out tube insertions.

I use ot to 'snipe' groups of crawlers far away and give teammates some long range help against large speshulmens. It also has a 12 round clip, never underestimate that!
The KSG is more of a medium range shotgun. Generally I can reload after that shot and keep the internal magazine at a consistent 8 shells. If I can't clear my way out of a situation with 7 shots then I switch to my AA-12 and wreck shit using it. The KSG might have a "fast" reload if we're comparing reloading on dry, but since it's pump it dishes out pain way too slow if you get in a situation you need to get out of quickly.

If anything it became a more viable weapon now that you need a government bailout for a Katana. That's just my style though, there are safer and easier ways to kill a Scrake with the AA12/HSG combo though they can require substantially more space to perform without taking damage.
HELP! It does not crash only when buying ZED gun. It crashes when buying anything expensive.
Tried verifying game cache? Uninstalling/reinstalling? Either that or something's wrong with your machine.
I tried verifying cache like I said yesterday. I'm re-downloading whole game now. It did not crash before this christmas update.
I honestly can't imagine what playing normal difficulty is like as a level 6, on some classes, the weapons do nearly 2x damage. Shame it will take me forever, even through farming.
Normal can still be a slight challenge if you get overwhelmed, I'm pretty bad so I play normal on solo most of the time.
Normal can still be a slight challenge if you get overwhelmed, I'm pretty bad so I play normal on solo most of the time.
Solo is much harder than in multiplayer, though. Max I can play on solo is normal, but I play suicidal on multiplayer.

HoE on West London? Okay then, shouldn't be too hard. Same map on hard and 6 men becomes a complete gang rape for me and others however.

The hardest solo game I've been able to complete is on hard difficulty, and even that I usually fail after fleshpounds start appearing. In solo you have to keep moving and watching your back all the time, not to mention that if you don't always plan ahead you often find yourself in an inescapable situation. Or you're busy with a group of zeds for a few seconds while a bunch of them spawn right behind you and chew you up. It's a whole lot easier when you've got someone to help watch your back. A 6 man hard game is fairly easy though if your teammates have half a brain each. I remember yesterday I played a game on Hellride on suicidal, all 6 of us were supports (5x lvl 6 and 1x lvl 4) and we kept camping the same hallway the whole game. I don't think any one of us died that game :v:

This pretty much means that your team needs to have a pretty good and balanced bunch of perks or else your are all torn apart. Solo is heaps easier once you know your way around the map and manage to make up for the weak points of your perk somehow.
Man, I've got so many ideas for weapons, it isn't funny. Considering that the Zerker is no longer limited to melee, throwing knives would be pretty cool.
I tried verifying cache like I said yesterday. I'm re-downloading whole game now. I've cobbled together a map which lets you spawn the ZED and other weapons here, give it a shot, if it ends up crashing then we definitely know it's the weapon models/textures themselves.

The bigger ones are also easy to take down when you have multiple people firing at them. Also the spawn rate of zeds seems to be disproportionately high in solo, they just keep coming at you, barely giving you any time to reload or even think what you're going to do next. In multiplayer the spawn rate isn't that much higher and seems much more manageable. What makes solo really hard IMO is that you simply can't afford to make any mistakes. Need to reload in the wrong moment? You're dead. The game decides to be evil and shower you with crawlers while there's two sirens closing in on you and a husk firing at you from afar? You're screwed. There's a fleshpound in one direction and a large group of zeds in the other? You might shoot your way through the group, but if you aren't quick enough the fleshpound will come raging at you while your guns are empty. Etc... In multiplayer you usually have someone that's going to help you out in a tight situation (again assuming they aren't newbs or simply bad at the game)

If it does crash again then I'll try your map out.

You also need to keep looking forward while also checking your back if you wish to not get swarmed. This usually means that maps like bioticslab and offices are pretty tough to beat just on hard as there is little room for moving around unless you take advantage of all the doors in there and be damn good as support specialist.
It kind of bothers me how, in the character select screen, all the characters you don't have still show up and take up space.
Solo zerk works pretty well. Solo medic gives you some forgiveness for mistakes, the grenades let you secape otherwise unwinnable scenarios and heal you and with the amazing armor you can tank big specimens for a little while (Empty does not recommend tanking fleshpounds) Only problem is well, fleshpounds on suicidal and up, they just don't fucking die.
It kind of bothers me how, in the character select screen, all the characters you don't have still show up and take up space.
Ugh, I KNOW I WILL NEVER HAVE THE BALL CHARACTER, STOP SHOWING ME HIM. Great, you've successfully shown off a playermodel that, what, 2% of the userbase has, at max? Didn't everyone buy the Ball during the Potato Fools Day event anyways.
The Ball character needs to be DLC ffs.
Maybe he could be just like the pyro character, and how you have to buy the game to have him?
Hard levels are tough. Last time I played on Hard, we were so close to Patriarch until a Fleshpound spawns right behind us while my ping skyrockets. [editline]27th December 2012[/editline] 60 specimens left, and then we were surrounded, and wiped out.
