S.A.M. time
So yeah, that one guy joined a hard game I was playing with name like "evil assassin" and started bragging that all his perks are level 6. He was playing Berserker without using any melee weapons and kept dying. Cheating doesn't make you cool.
So I actually want to level up my perks after hours of fucking around in this game. Im guessing everything depends on play style but is there any perk that might be good to start off with?

All you gotta do is shoot stuff in the head with sharpshooter weapons.
I'm thinking about getting into KF again. What perk do you recommend me?I quite like firebug (I suck with flamethrower though, I always burn myself) and Support specialist.
i dont think ive managed to land a single, intended headshot with the m99 seems like the hitboxes are way off from the models the husk is impossible to hit in the head and gorefasts dont lose theirs once shot
Husks are easy once you know the spot you need to aim for. It's around the upper rim/tank. The gorefasts do lose their head, but the model is bugged to not show it (presumably because the devs didn't know a good way to make the sword work with it).

Why is firebug so impossible to level God damn I can't even get past level 2 the MAC-10 doesn't do shit
Oh also, good technique to kill fleshpound and scrake?
Need welding points? Play Aperture map. The great amount of doors, and over all, the GlaDOS door, will give you all the points you want. (hell, i´m LV5 with Support and i have the double of the points that i need to level up). Also, i´m the only one who ran out of ammo playing as Support in Suicidal? Always have to buy a Magnum in order to continue killing zeds.
Why is firebug so impossible to level God damn I can't even get past level 2 the MAC-10 doesn't do shit
Burn large groups of enemies, and use semi-auto with the MAC. Play Biotics, FifthCross and Bedlam, the narrow corridors is what you need.
Oh also, good technique to kill fleshpound and scrake?
Headshot with crossbow or repeatedly stun them with the katana until they drop.
Cheating doesn't make you cool.
But saying that does make it cool, because it implies that I implied it was cool.
Sharpshooter is definitely the easiest to play with at start, support and medic are pretty good to move on to if you're looking for something different. With medic, though, you have to deal with the extreme hassle of assholes juking back and forth when you're trying to heal them with your darts. Which is why I always carry every medic gun I can afford, ammo efficiency is generally shit but I can spam darts like nobody's business. Support's a good one to play with in general, as shotguns are fairly cheap and effective against most everything if you can get in close to 'em. The extra weight they get at higher levels also helps offset their limited range; you can grab a crossbow, or at least a lever-action and take potshots at long range threats to help soften them up or whittle down hordes of clots/gorefasts to something more manageable. Firebug and commando can be a challenge because of the recoil on their weapons, although mastering controlled bursts will severely help. There's a time and a place for spraying and praying, though, so don't think fully auto is useless. Demo and berserker, I'd say, are the most challenging individual classes. Demo because unless you take the M16/M203 or a sidearm, you don't have a backup for when they get close. Berserker because unless you're good at it, you'll get hit. A lot. If you've got a medic and someone like a support or sharpshooter to play with it's not as bad, since the medic can patch you up and the sharpshooter can deal with trash to help you keep from getting swarmed, or help you disengage if you do.
I still don't get why people call firebug hard/crappy, it's my highest leveled perk besides sharpshooter and I'm always at the top of the scoreboard despite only lighting enemies on fire and not actually trying to kill them.
I don't consider it that hard, and it's very useful to a team, but the flamethrower and mac-10 have some challenge to them. It's not like playing demo or berserker by far, but it's more challenging than playing sharpshooter or support. Honestly, the first class I played was firebug, and I got to wave... 9? I think on beginner my first map when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

I think on beginner my first map when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.
I don't really see that many firebugs. Mainly because I hate the pubbing firebugs that spray everything and end up lighting zeds surrounding you on fire you DEFINITELY can't see shit, get burned and swarmed. Once I did play with a good firebug though and he was great, killed crawlers and sirens for me, helped me kill Scrakes and FP's and overall helped me in some tough situations. I was a Zerker so I was a good matchup buddy to him. He needed a lot of ammo so I gave him some of my extra dosh (which was in plenty) and he in turn kept everything black away from me (wow racist)
My friend plays Firebug and with me playing Berserker, it's a race for who can kill the most the fastest. He usually gets the bulk of crawlers and clots and softens up gorefasts, I end up getting most of the gorefasts and all the bigger things, especially Husks and Scrakes.
Oh yeah, Husks are always a joy to see. They make such delicious decapitations.
The thing is, a good firebug can be useful, but a bad firebug can only screw everything up. It's the only class where a bad player is actually a hindrance and the team would be better off if he were dead. And it's easy to screw up and light on fire things you weren't supposed to. Overall, the Commando can do the Firebug's job (kill the lesser specimens) just as well, if not better, and he can dish out a nice amount of damage to the bigger ones, unlike the firebug. So... Yeah.
I'd put demo in that bracket too, a bad one can destroy a team from the inside. Firebugs i don't mind the class on the whole. But for the long haul i find commando better. Pyro is decent for the first 100 /150 or so trash zeds, but often they run out of ammo. But again it's a class that can perfrom very well with a good team, Imo the best team set up for virtually everymap is 2 supports with shotguns and hunting (other maybe having the aa12 and hunting), 2 sharpies 1 bow and now 1 m99, 1 commando with a scar and ak (using AK when they bunch up for spraying) and based on the guys i play with ,demo with pipes and LAW or medic with the new medic gun and a xbow. All of us lvl6 will get to the patty every single time on every map. You have every single base covered and you're never really in much risk even on long HoE games which is what i base this set up on. I digress though, any setup (in theory) can work so long as you have a good team. Scratch that, the thing that may fuck you over is the trader, bitch loves to disspear to the shop thats lightyears away when your on wave 10, just to piss everyone off.
But saying that does make it cool, because it implies that I implied it was cool.
I didn't really aim that at you though, I more meant the guy I was playing with. He for one was bragging about his perk levels.
Got the killing blow on a patriarch from hitting him with both barrels of the hunting shotgun and watching him go ragdolling off a cliff on mountainpass in slow motion. Feels great.
Made it to level 5 sharpshooter! Now to level the other classes..
I've been playing demo, using a bullpup as an offhand weapon for when I see Stalkers. Double perk leveling!
And it's easy to screw up and light on fire things you weren't supposed to.
I was under the impression that being crispy made zeds take more damage? So it's beneficial to light up a distant scrake or fleshpound if nobody's dealing with them, so they're burned by the time the get to the damage dealers. Unless you mean like lighting a scrake that a berserker's got stunlocked, or a fleshpound that's more than handled at range.

Hey I see peope arround here show some love for us the firebugs. And yes, bad firebugs run our of ammo pretty fast, a good firebug crouch and tap the button to keep ammo and the vision for other players clean. There is nothing more bro that saving the demo or the support from a gangrape with the flamethrower or helping the zerker to toast the crawlers. Firebug is the best team class alongside commando.
Even if you can't kill any big target alone you can crisp them up easily with your Incendiary Grenades. You can set them off with your Flamethrower after tossing one onto the ground. Since your grenades are pretty valuable and low on count, it's not recommended to stack them. Any crisped specimen will take extra damage from attacks and will be slowed down for a while, which is invaluable for heavy hitting team members.
http://kf-wiki.com/wiki/Firebug
http://kf-wiki.com/wiki/Firebug
And all of a suden, firebug feels a hell lot more useful now.
Speaking of Firebug, I tried that class for the first time yesterday. I don't see what the deal was, that class is easy as piss, or I just know what I'm doing. First wave after I got my Flamethrower and MAC-10, everyone gets wiped out, leaving me stranded behind the podium in the Church. I managed to burn everything out (including a Fleshpound) and escape to the tunnel nearby, where I finished off the stragglers. My teammates were pretty impressed, by the end of the game I had the second best score even though I joined late.
Why is firebug so impossible to level God damn I can't even get past level 2 the MAC-10 doesn't do shit
99 man server, kf_mansion run around with shit on fire. 4 hours later done.
firebug
The issue isn't ease, it's effectiveness. The FB stops being useful on Suicidal and above, and being blinded by fire is good way to piss folks off. TW has never gotten the class up to the same level as the rest. People use the firebug to play HoE with off perk stuff when they're bored to shit. It's just a very, very bad class on higher difficulties.
