I'm having an extreme love/hate relationship with the combat system. Why the hell will my sword only damage enemies I am targeting at? I hate that (I'm not saying a single sword swing should go through 50 men, but when I swing and miss the target while hitting another guy right on it should at least slightly stagger him).
yeah you only end up hitting others when you invest in the swordmanship tree. I kinda miss the old system where it was fast/slow/aoe styles but I don't miss the timing attacks.
Just finished the prologue. STUNNING. I have played with all graphics options and here is the best combo for a higher end system IMHO running mostly 40-60fps constant: ALL maxed except turn these off: * UBERsampling (No one can run that at 60 FPS yet) * Motion blur * Depth of Field - Gameplay (Makes backgrounds sharper) I am running the latest NVIDIA WHQL drivers but DO NOT install 3D Vision, I heard it makes it run worse. The game is a no brainer to buy. Playing Witcher 1 helps for context but the game is so stunning EVERYONE with a PC should buy ASAP. PS - If you are having trouble with combat, remember, this isn't a console game where you just Press "X" to kill enemies. You need attack, roll, block, use magic, and use them wisely. I love that the game is challenging.. Screenshot with my settings DROOL http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg21/6845/55witcher2.jpg
I think the biggest problem so far (I'm into early Chapter 2) is that there hasn't been much in the way of combat, I really wanna experiment more with the combat system but there just aren't many enemies roaming about, and when there are they're mainly just trash mob like enemies that attack you in groups and are easy to kill with a single quen, hope to see a lot more human encounters. Anyone else annoyed that the game frequently puts you into combat without giving you a chance to down some potions? I'm doing an alchemy focused character and it just feels like I'm at a huge disadvantage in some battles when I can't use half of my abilities. Also: [sp] That Kingslayer fight, how do you make him drop his quen which he likes to use so often, found myself getting fucked up when I tried to hit it away from him, ended up just dropping down like 30 snares because they ignore Quen to kill him.[/sp]
I'm on the Epilogue, I've taken quite a few screenshots but sadly, most are spoileriffic. This game is so fucking beautiful.
Wow, just picked up the game and there is so much stuff in the box. Standard edition. I remember when every game was full of things like this. Now we get a game manual that goes over the HUD and controls and that's it.
Armwrestling is just NOT gonna happen it seems. As Monk said, it handles like a fat guy lubricated for a fatty orgie. Any suggestions? It's fine in-game, but it just pisses about and doesn't respond at all during mini-games.
Is there anyone else that got problems with their DVDs not being recognized and in case there is anybody, did or how did you get it fixed?
Even though the combat system had me raging in the beginning (it still does sometimes, but with the 360 degrees parrying it gets better, and I still don't even have unlocked the sword tree), damn this game is good. It just leaves you with a good taste after having played it (many games do the opposite).
Witcher 2 set a new standard to role playing games.
One thing that bothered me about the first Witcher is that game mechanics weren't always clear. Also I found the menu interface horrid. Is W2 more polished?
W2 is much more polished overall, but they still do a shit job at explaining how many of the game mechanics work. No, the tutorial popups are not good, they go away way too fast and show up when you're busy doing something else. You can read them again through the journal, but still. The menu looks nice, but when it comes down to functionality, the Witcher 1 menu was much better in my opinion.
Anyone know where you get your DLC Armour Still haven't come a=across it and I am wondering if I missed it
I really liked Oblivion and the new Fallout games. Would I like Witcher 2 if I liked those games?
I really liked Oblivion and the new Fallout games. Would I like Witcher 2 if I liked those games?
They're not really similar but It's a great game, if you like RPGs you'll definitely like this.
Has anyone played this with a gamepad? It's perfectly playable with M+K, but the combat feels like it would flow better with a gamepad.
Has anyone played this with a gamepad? It's perfectly playable with M+K, but the combat feels like it would flow better with a gamepad.
I tried it out but it didn't feel right the camera control was not precise enough for what I needed to do
Has anyone played this with a gamepad? It's perfectly playable with M+K, but the combat feels like it would flow better with a gamepad.
All I'm using personally, think menus could be a bit better though while using one.
Any idea how to get rid of this annoying crosshair that appears when I use steam's overlay? It's a white, very simple crosshair and annoys the piss out of me.
Any idea how to get rid of this annoying crosshair that appears when I use steam's overlay?
Happens for me too sometimes, I couldn't figure out any other way of getting rid of it than going back to the main menu and then loading a save.
That's how I'm getting rid of it now, fairly annoying. On a lighter note though, game is great so far, couldn't play Witcher 1 at all, thought the combat was terrible and the animations annoyed me, Witcher 2 I'm loving though.
I think I'm gonna buy this but should I buy it on GOG or Steam? GOG doesn't have the drm but I've heard that the download manager sucks.
Some times I wish I could manually select a target instead of it choosing a random target for me. Flying into a huge group before you have a chance to use Quen (use Quen btw) is suicide.

And you might be able to just download using the browser (multiple parts with the browser though)

TBH I think that witcher 2 has also set a new bar in graphics in general, i'm sure that the "can it run crysis ?" will be replaced with "can it run witcher 2 ?". On ultra settings the models faces (specially Triss) look pretty damn realistic. The environments are spetacular aswell.

The Dungeon areas in the prologue are DROOL worthy... and it seems to just get better from there. I thought Crysis 2 was incredibly graphics wise but I am liking this even more. PROPS to CD Projeckt!
Has anyone been able to get the pre-order DLC packages working? It won't accept my code or my game registration login, I'm thinking their servers are down perhaps?
They are.
Oh fiddlesticks.

PROPS to CD Projeckt!
I don't think the "can it run Witcher 2" will happen solely because it's actually optimized and runable when you disable Motion Blur and Ubersampling. If Metro and Crysis both had the same optimization, we wouldn't have "can it run crysis/metro?" but "why the fuck does every game look like shit when these other games run fine?!". I hope we're heading into such times now! but we aren't... I love this game! You can be completely impartial in any conflicts there may be! Unlike Dragon Age! had to say it. I do play that type of character, just minding himself just because i haven't been able to lately due to idiot developers.
