Is it just me or is the alchemy system slightly dumbed down? I really liked the idea of secondary substances from TW1 because it gave (almost) each and every substance a unique purpose that made them worth actively searching for. Not gonna say too much, as I haven't completed the prologue yet.
Damn I can't seem to find Diamond dust and another Silver Ore for the Silver Sword.
that's odd because both items are like the easiest to find in the game and there's too much of it imho
try the shopkeeper in the center by the nooses
One gripe I have and was stated above is the lack of escaping enclosed spaces while fighting, there generally is no proper way to safely escape the enemies.
I generally find rolling to be very helpful for that.
I'm probably going to buy witcher 1 when it's on steam summer sales.

It's simplified, it's the basically the same but without the need for alchemical bases.
I've been playing The Witcher 1 and was wondering if books are any use after you've read them? At the moment they're filling up my inventory and I am considering selling them so free up some space.
I love the satisfying feeling of killing something, it actually takes a decent amount of skill.
I can't remember the last time I felt as satisfied as I did after I beat that first boss in Chapter 1, felt good man.

not useful in the slightest, I just dropped them when I had read them
Just finished it, was pretty good, disappointing that you never get to visit a proper huge city.
not useful in the slightest, I just dropped them when I had read them
Why not sell them?
Took me 15 attempts to kill Kayran. I raged but in the end it was so satisfying.
Are you serious? I wasn't even insulting either game, I was making a joke. Hell, while in the same genre, neither of them are even competing against each other. You're seriously worse than a valve fanboy.
The reason the world is in an uproar about this is because Bioware, The kings of RPG's made a game that felt just as open and deep as this, some 10 years ago. But since then, they've been leaping backwards like a nekkar dodging your sword and now we've got DA2. They can be compared because CDProject just made the game that everyone wanted since BG1!

Couldn't be bothered.

Disagree, they're one of the only large development studios that recognises the importance of story in games. True, most of their games follow the same pattern, and they seem to be becoming less adept at designing believable characters, but despite that their games are better than 99% of other shit.
Is the combat good? I love RPG's but I didn't really like the first Witcher. It felt like a single player mmo to me, but I didn't really give it a good chance.

Easily best combat I've seen in a rpg and best sword fighting too. Some people are complaining because the game is too hard for them, but it's rewarding and never unfair in my opnion. You really need to use tactics and your powers.
A lot of people who completed the game now have zero issues with the prologue which was so difficult for them at first. So here is a game where you realy learn how to play and is easy to pick up but hard to master. If you find out what works and what doesn't, and if you have some good reflexes, the combat is amazing.

They design their characters after one big thing.
The backstory of why they would have sex with you.

It's not really that hard, so long as you use quen and dodge it's all gravy.
[sp]That one bit though, where you re-enact that battle and the game puts you as a dead soldier without the ability to dodge, use any of your signs or benefit from alchemical effects, hated that bit. I had zero points in the Sword combat path so I was getting cut down pretty easily, couldn't attack without separating the enemies up otherwise I'd get locked into a position where if I run I'm guaranteed to get swiped across my back, and if I stay and block it's only a matter of time until I'm defenseless. Died a couple of times at that bit, once I got back to Geralt I was fine, s'just geeze they took away the only things I've put points into.[/sp]
Umm. Just started. And this is how the combat is atm:
*left click*
whack-whack-wha-ting (sword spin thing)
*left click again (after 2 seconds)*
whack-whack-wha-ting (sword spin thing)
*left click again*
whack-whack-wha-ting (sword spin thing)
enemy dead.
I think I'm doing it wrong or something, but all the combat is to me is just a left click after the 3 attacks are done. Watching the gameplay videos, I know something is wrong.
What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone tell me a good way to beat the boss at chapter 2 because he is geting on my nerves and I think I nearly broke my mouse in frustration.
Holy crap, I just had a 15 minute boss fight with one of the bosses.
[SP]Have to admit, Saskia has some health, took like 50 hits just to get her down to half health.[/sp]

Also, I'm starting out defending a castle of some sort. Aren't I supposed to start in a dungeon?

You are playing The Witcher 1, not the sequel.
Nevermind, I realized I was playing The Witcher 1.
Oh flubadoo you silly goose.

Goddamn friend gave me a disc saying it was the witcher 1.

Thought it sounded like the witcher 1...
This is the second game I have sound issues with, Crysis 2 being the first.
This and battlefield 3 will make me want to upgrade. The game looks so much better at a friend's house on his super pc.
Anyone else unable to get the DLC downloaded fully?
Mine just keeps re-downloading when it reaches the end.
Man, I have discovered I am terrible at this game.
Also, screw that [sp]Nekker cave during the Malena quest[/sp]. There are so many of them, and I just get raped. Had to turn the difficulty down to get passed it. /ashamed
Also, I had a bug where randomly my mouse or my keyboard stopped working in game. I could hit escape and move my mouse in the menus but in game it wouldn't work. It completely ruined the save I had too. I couldn't use the save at all, exiting the game and reloading the save didn't work. It's a good thing I had multiple or else I'd have been mad.
