best rpg for a long, long time
:pcgaming:
He just gets back up the instant I use Aard on him.
http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Beast
haha i dont get it like everybody i have seen playing this game has this badass armor (it's great because geralt looks good in ALL ARMOR. fucking finally, a game where you don't look dumb in a particular outfit (DRAGON AGE)) but regardless i'm still playing with the standard leather attire. i forgot completely about using my inventory until about chapter 3 because i've just been using the silver witcher sword [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] also "new geralt" is amazing. when you look at the older witcher 2 screenshots/vids he looks like some young anime loser now he's, like, more masculine than any other RPG character to date [editline]20th May 2011[/editline]
http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Beast
Of course I google and look it up before I come here.
I think Alchemy this time around kind of sucked, I ended up switching out of it and putting all my points into signs because the benefit from drinking potions was hard to notice, and the time it takes to prepare and drink (plus the influence having a ticking timer has on you) just made it felt like it was sort of unnecessary, especially considering you could avoid needing it by just not getting hit. Not to mention half the time I just wasn't paying attention to whatever alchemy ingredients I was picking up, I knew the game would sort everything out for me and what with the inventory being a bitch to navigate, I decided to just let the game play itself in that regard. I think the signs were too overpowered again, at a low level Quen is the only sign really worth a damn (plus Axii), but put points into them and they're basically win buttons. As long as you keep Quen up you'll find it's pretty hard to die, I wish the enemy NPCs had things they could do to react to whatever sign you're using so they didn't just get mowed down. Actual Witchering this time was almost non-existent, the way it was done in The Witcher 1 was too MMOish (to the point where it was basically just a get me 5 of this quest). The way it was done in 2 wasn't really any better, there was more exposition to each monster hunt quest, but this time is more about destroying X of Y nests/food sources while killing the monsters that inhabited the area, I liked how in The Witcher 1 researching a monster first was essential to completing a monster hunt quest (if only because it allowed you to collect monster parts that were necessary for completing the quest). Would have liked to have seen an expansion on this process, researching monsters to understand their weaknesses so you don't get your ass kicked or monsters that are seemingly invincible until you understand how it is you kill them (a lich and it's phylactery for example). Really makes the monsters come alive when you can't just hack n slash them to death and you have to learn about how they work to deal with them (sometimes a bit of background lore can completely change how you view certain monsters). I would have liked monster hunt quests to be more like the Striga quest from the first. I didn't like the lack of creature variety this time around, a lot of them just felt like turdbeasts, I liked the folkish feel the first one had and how the creatures all felt like the kind of things you'd find in folk tales (probably because they were adapted from folk tales) but yeah, made them feel like they had more of a place in the world, like they were legitimate nuisances that only a Witcher could deal with. I didn't like the level of interaction you had with the monsters this time around, expected much more than the first Witcher and got less. Seeing the excellent level of animation throughout the entire game sort of makes me sad that most of it is simply superficial, I would have liked if the daily schedules all the NPCs had was put to better use, made more functional (NPCs going off and doing their own thing, you might follow or stumble upon one of them doing something mighty suspicious either by chance or as part of a quest and then things unfold from there). Dynamic mini-quest generation (that one bit in Chapter 2 when you encounter some guards under siege from all sides by Endregas when you're heading to the Visionary which was scripted I'm aware but it's merely an example of how two colliding NPC routines could create a nice little event for the player to participate in). I can think of a lot more I liked/took issue with but I'd rather compile it into something that reads less like a list and more like a coherent analysis of some sort.
I agree but it's not incredibly underwhelming at all. Witcher 2 still beats pretty much everything out there right now. Although the alchemy stuff and potion drinking is absolutely meaningless. So is using any swords other than your silver one (unless fighting humans) because it does so much damage to monsters. Makes it kind of odd when you get these weapons that say, like "30-36 damage" because you know that your witcher sword will still take down enemies faster even though it just says 10 damage. The thing I liked about the original Witcher game (if I am remembering right) was that you got to pick your fighting style. In this, I heard that there were a ton of attack animations motion captured that were genuinely used back in the day but I was wrinkling my eyebrows when I saw that there was just a "quick attack" and "high-powered slow attack" button with pretty much the same recycled animations the whole time you played. It makes fighting very odd and boring until later on in the game when you just grow in to it. I was hoping for more of a traditional Jedi Academy style hack-and-slash, I guess, but Witcher 2 definitely doesn't disappoint either way.
Finally downloaded it. Shame it's 4am. I sorted the graphics out though so I should be playing well in the morning :D
dear lord I want a 1080p monitor, the game looks so much better without the letterboxing
Needs more anti-aliasing. I liked how the crossbow guys shut me down when I tried to kite for an easy win, how the enemies tended to stick together and attack together making engaging them outright suicide meaning you had to use magic like Axii, Yrden and Aard to split them up and take pressure off of yourself. I was disappointed that there were only really 3 more encounters like this one in the rest of the game, that you only fight a group of enemies with a mage backing them up about 4 or 5 times, that most monsters had no way to defend themselves from your attacks (making them easy hack n slash kills). Also Quen really does need to be nerfed, it's a nice ability and I want to be able to use it, I just don't want it to be win mode.
but it's not incredibly underwhelming at all
It's overwhelming in some areas and disappointing in others, still as you said better than most recent games.
I'm probably not the first to have said it, but the kayran has to be either the hardest or the most poorly designed boss I've ever fought in any game.
Game made me feel bad, defaults to low settings.. :saddowns: I need a quad core basically
Letho has the best accent, moment I heard it, didn't want to kill him.
I'm probably not the first to have said it, but the kayran has to be either the hardest or the most poorly designed boss I've ever fought in any game.
Use Quen + Yrden together and it will be a cakewalk. I've wasted 30 minutes trying to [sp]cut his front 2 tentacles though, which is impossible[/sp] :downs:

Hey, it's the first game- Witcher 2- that I can't run decently with my video-card (9600GT). And by "can't run decently" I mean can't even play it at a respectable FPS/Graphic level. Guess I might play this game a year or so from now when i get an upgrade :( Witcher 1 ran flawlessly fuck the graphic update.

I was walking around Flotsum, and I'm pretty sure I heard a peasant say "The whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down and say 'Alright'"
Anyone got any hints for the Nilfgaardian Camp in Chapter 2? I'm completely lost just sneaking around like an idiot.

Few more sexy screenshots I took. http://cubeupload.com/codes/d7cf09
That with ubersampling on? I haven't tried seeing what my game runs like if I turn it on. [editline]21st May 2011[/editline] [editline]21st May 2011[/editline] Looks better, but only by a small degree, framerate hit isn't as bad as I thought it'd be though, kinda wish there was just a plain old supersampling option, I was getting constant frame tearing and there was nothing else I could turn on other than ubersampling, motion blur (10 frames per second simulator) or Vsync (dat mouse lag). I didn't like how the only AA options were "On" or "Off", whatever happened to 2x/4x/8x?
That with ubersampling on? I didn't like how the only AA options were "On" or "Off", whatever happened to 2x/4x/8x?
Yes - and I'm fairly sure that TW2 uses a deferred lighting system, which sort of fucks with traditional MSAA techniques. I heard somewhere that it uses MLAA, which as far as I know is a simple on/off algorithm, whose quality can't really be adjusted beyond that.
deferred lighting system
I thought it might be that, was hoping CDPR had just made a serious oversight. :( Dammit DX9
Anyone come across this dude telling detailed stories in his fucking sleep?
Mouse bug is really fucking annoying.

And their heads are falling though the pillows.
I was so excited to play this game, but alas, my computer can't run it without awful lag even on the lowest settings :(
Is Kalistien relevant to the main plot to proceed though the main game? I may of stuffed up, as he longer wants to talk with me.
Is Kalistien relevant to the main plot to proceed though the main game? I may of stuffed up, as he longer wants to talk with me.
yes, he is one of the main characters.
Troll is so cute :3:
Troll is so cute :3:
I laughed the moment I met him when he just blurted, "No."
