I'm a trooper, playing this game eventhough I get awful FPS (5 fps at times).

don't worry about it
Just finished the witcher 2, all I have to say is: Plough the whore-sons over at bioware, action RPG's have a new king.
So, I just started playing this and what the heck am I supposed to do when there's over 3 enemies? Do I just hit, run and repeat or is there a better way not to get killed?
[sp]I knew someone would get mad at me.[/sp]

Use signs, cycle between them with "4" or press and hold ctrl to pick one from a radial wheel.
The one you want is called Quen, it's basically a shield. (try em all out and you get a tutorial message telling you what they do)
And possibly more importantly, you can roll using space. Use it to get out when you're getting surrounded and always keep on the move.

That's what I'm doing but... maybe I need to try harder.
Or start playing on Easy.

Basically always keep quen up, when it drops roll out and refresh.
Keep on the move and never get surrounded.
I was walking around Flotsum, and I'm pretty sure I heard a peasant say "The whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down and say 'Alright'"
I heard it too.
Also, if you side with Iorveth when you get to Saskia they do this whole thing making fun of LotR. They talk about rings and "One to rule them all and in the darkness bind them" and then Geralt says "We'll have to walk barefooted up a volcano". Thought it was pretty funny.
Yrden works pretty well at splitting up groups. If a certain fight gives you problems then just drink a few potions before you try it.
Damn, you don't get to plough [sp]Saskia[/sp]?. Geralt, you disappoint me greatly.
Brother bought me this game today and I've been playing it for about 3 hours. Prologue was great and all. Combat is a HELL. Not even the first Witcher's combat was this stupid hard (infact, the Witcher's combat was easy as shit; hard mode or not.)
My only real problem with this game is that I have to play it at 800x600. On low. At 20-30 FPS max.
:smith:
Fucking.
Kraken.
Hybrid.
Fuck.
It's not stupid hard. It's "smart hard". You have to use tactics and more than 2 buttons...

Oh, I meant the other cave, where you look for the [sp]lured dead guards, but then I found the circle of strength outside the cave, so no worries.[/sp]
I am on chapter 2, I need to help Deathmold do a certain ritual, I am required to drink Gadwall? I have none, nor the formula, I have checked all the merchants, and none have it, does anyone have an idea as to where I can find one?
I can't remember who said this game look "good" but not "great" -- These are some screenies I took with my settings. The textures and lighting are unreal. My only complaint is the bloom can be overdone in the morning light or bright torch lights. If this is just "good", I can't wait to see what the future holds for a "great" looking game ;)
(No spoilers)
Yes - and I'm fairly sure that TW2 uses a deferred lighting system, which sort of fucks with traditional MSAA techniques. I heard somewhere that it uses MLAA, which as far as I know is a simple on/off algorithm, whose quality can't really be adjusted beyond that.
I doubt it is considering there are options to change the number of shadows/light sources and light source distances AFAIK. Deferred rendering makes it so this isn't nessicary, as all lights on the scene (no matter how many or how far) are calculated at once in some kind of shader-like pass. So it wouldn't matter how many lights you have, as it wouldn't affect performance much more than having no lights.
I'm pretty sure it applies to shadows to, though I could be wrong.
Oh my god, [sp]Kayran[/sp] was such a bitch to fight.

Reminds me of my days where I played morrowind on an old 500mhz machine with an 8mb video card :3:
Low fps (10-15 at max) and constant artifacts everwhere. Pretty hilarious.

Theres a lot of things to the combat that the game doesnt explain at ALL and really helps out early on to know. I.E.
1. Your vigor affects damage, the more vigor you have the more damage you can do.
2. You can't block unless you have at least some vigor - so don't mindlessly cast signs all over the place.
3. Don't get hit in the back - it does 200% extra damage.
4. Dodge constantly- its the one defensive thing you can do that doesn't take energy
5. Bombs and traps are VERY helpful. Use them. They are like free signs
6. If you are playing a section of game that is combat heavy, use potions that buff you up before battle.

[sp] Run up to the collapsed bridge part on the left, it'll start trying to swat you with it's tentacles. Time it and run up the bridge for a cutscene[/sp]

The problem with potions is that you rarely predict when you need them and you must meditate out of combat to drink them. Too often did I stop and think "Maybe there's gonna be a tough battle ahead, I should drink a potion" only to find it either trivial or to find out it was all cutscenes.
I gave up on potions, beat the game fine without them or traps.
Crashed, right after some big fight with Salamandras. gah.
One tip : Level up Quen to the max. It makes game easier.
Okay guys, let me get this straight. Act 1 is always same. Act 2 and 3 are either Roche's path or Iorveth's. Other decisions don't make much difference.

There seems to be 2 main paths to follow, with a shitload of possible variations in both.
Only way to beat the insane mode is if you cheat, there is no other way. It's impossible.
