The Witcher Megathread - Games

I seriously hope that is a criticism of the genre.

Loot hunting can be good or bad, too much or too little can be equally annoying I like meaningful loot not being swamped with worthless minescule stat changes but I also like to feel like I am improving not being stuck for hours with nothing new

Some new information from a conference with Gop, validity of information not clear as I didn't witness it myself and the information is second hand. Curious thing: one of the merchants in the dwarves' city shouts EMO!!111 at the top of his lungs after seeing Geralt passing by. - you can see the way the dialogues look like in the released videos - for me the "Mass Effect Effect" of the dialogue system didn't turn even half as bad as I'd imagined; generally you CAN see the line Geralt is to deliver, of corse sometimes he adds something from himself, but the same happened in the first installment either. What breaks the, er, immersion are the pauses between the lines - CDP-R is aware of this issue but it's not that easy to address and they decided they'd rather focus their resources on some other areas. -boobs in the Witcher 1 were childish, they've grown up now (the developers, that is). -the character development is talent-based and has implications on the game world. For example, if you're an alchemy freak, your character will become, well, a freak, which may in effect turn off some of the NPCs. - there were numerous claims on have the players' actions affect the game-world and the story-line, this time for real, but we were spared any firm examples as this would have been spoilers. -pretty much every quest is non-linear and there are multiple ways to end them. Your choices deeply affect the world and the attitude of the other people towards your character blablabla... - there is a new minigame - armwrestling (fairly unimpressive, if you asked me); also, mechanics of boxing are changed and it is now quite difficult to win. - Geralt will not be the only playable character. - the quest log is now kept in a form of a book, or a tale told by Jaskier (Dandelion) - we were promised it would be fun to read. -Gop and the CDP-Red team didn't play DA2 due to the lack of time, but he is assured the the Witcher 2 is a "different class of an RPG" as compared to Dragon Age 2. - Polish and English language versions of the game are being prepared simultaneously and overseen by some Polish-American guy to assure coherence and adequate quality of both.[/quote]

Still not sure whether minimum means "can't even play the game without this shit yo" or whether it's just minimum for a decent framerate.

Build they have only has 4 graphical options, low to ultra. I believe there's an issue with the build that's been sent out, in that there's hardly any difference between low and ultra settings, it's quite visible that only the quality of the textures and to a much smaller extent the lighting changes. Also Depth of Field turns off on low. So either it's a problem with the build or the graphics of the game may not scale well when the final version is released, likely the former. I think The Witcher 2 is the first game for which I've only seen just a few screenshots and like one or two videos. I want my experience to be as fresh as possible :v:

Should I get this from D2D? There's a 20% off sale right now and I'm trying to save money. But someone told me: [quote]D2D is shit. And the file setup for some of my other D2D games are exactly the same as if I bought them retail. But I'd rather be certain I can add mods to TW2 if there will be any/if I want to.

Decided to preorder the Witcher 2 on steam. Can't wait for May now!

I might be missing something but TW2 seems to be priced at £31 on D2D.

Wow good old games is giving a ton of extra stuff for preordering there. I might be missing something as well as it costs $45 on GoG. Maybe its because we're in different regions.

I want to keep playing the Witcher, but I think I broke the main quest. I'm stuck on Act 2 where I have to prove that all of those people are innocent, but I can't advance the quest to the second stage cause it keeps telling me to talk to the merchant, but he has nothing to say. Is it actually possible to break the main quest or am I just missing something.

This game looks pretty good, but I didn't play the first and I can't really buy another full priced game so soon after buying Portal 2. I'll nab it when it goes on sale in the future I suppose.
