THAT PLOUGHING DRAGON
Barely, huh? My computer apparently meets the recommended, but overheats like a bitch and I get poor FPS on a lot of things.
If I were you I'd lower Shadow settings, Texture Mem size to Medium or maybe small. Motion Blur to off since that could cause some stutters if you whip around too quickly. Bloom and other light options are GPU hungry, so I'd pop those to off, unless you like bright lights. SSAO and Wet surfaces could be turned off for certain. And like others have said, turn off Ubersampling. Its just not worth the trouble. Just my 2 cents. I've pretty much everything on low and my card heats to 104 during battle heavy scenes.
You also have the same card as me. Oh man, I didn't think I'd see the day.
Also, if your case isn't properly ventilated, you'll want to run at a smaller resolution to avoid overheating.

You can try looking in the DLC menu, which is on the splash when you load up.
Changed my settings. Game runs pretty comfortably now. FPS drags down a bit outdoors (20-30fps) but it's still playable.

also this game is fantastic
SSAO is highly unecessary
it looks good on the characters but on everything else it's very subtle. that and the shadows aren't very high resolution so you get the orange box esque grainy shadow edges which gets kind of odd to look at.
You're fucking wrong.
It makes a huge difference; It is the must have setting.

This image doesn't even come close to the amount of difference that SSAO makes to this game.
Even at super low, the game is extremely pretty.
Even at super low, the game is extremely pretty.
For me the texture resolution is worse than Nintendo 64 games..
I really hate how in the Witcher 2 that ingredients you pick up don't state what type of ingredient they are until you hover over them in your inventory and look over in the tiny ass discriptor box in the corner. Was much better with Witcher 1 where all ingredients were indicated with what type they were when you were exploring, made it much easier and less random to try and hunt for ingredients.
Speaking of which the whole potion making menu is clunky too. There is no organization between oils, bombs and potions, and theres no indicator what kind of potion I am making until I mouse over to see the icon on the giant text only list, and then click on the potion to select it to see what it actually does.
Not to mention each menu in the UI can only be accessed by a specific hotkey you have to remember, and you can't switch between different areas of the menu system while in another. Some parts of the menu system are oddly placed too - why is knowledge of creatures and their weaknesses (very important in this game) only accessible under several menus into the character development screen? Which, mind you, can only be accessed with a specific hotkey, and only when you are not in any other menu.

Ubersampling is Supersampling AA:

I would set AA to 4x and turn off SSAO instead.
So, at this point only one solid thing has translated over for me considering The Witcher 2:
Tits.
Tits EVERYWHERE.
Here's a comparison.
Trilinear interpolation of original data set (183 x 255 x 125 voxels).
Trilinear interpolation of supersampled data set (365 x 509 x 249 voxels).
Spot the difference?

Insane difficulty is ridiculous.
Fought 1-on-1 with one of those monkey-like ghoul things, hit him 6 times with the silver sword and it only did 1/8 of his health, he hit me twice and I died.
Am I the only one thinking that combat system, atleast in tutorial, is so fucking retarded? Especially the encounters they put you in: 1x heavy knight, 2x mid knights and 3x light knights vs you in Monastery.
They all rush me in and kill, Even putting the goddamn traps doesn't work.
How do you guys make money?
How do you guys make money?
You can do the arm wrestling and fist fighting things as many times as you want. They're easy as hell and with arm wrestling you'll get 60 gold every time.
how the fuck am I supposed to get ostmurk from the nekker cave, they swarm me and fuck me up before I can even do anything.
That fucking fight with [sp]Letho[/sp] is ridiculous. When his fucking quen times out he hits you with the Aard which knocks you across the room just long enough for him to cast quen again. I've only managed to get him down to half health, and that was by dodging around him so most of his sword strikes didn't connect then power attacking him from behind. Works well until he casts Aard on you then two hits you with his massive [del]penis[/del] sword. Kiting him into an Yrden trap works pretty well, but he's got Quen on 90% of the time which makes him immune to everything. Aard is useful but it's only really workable at range, and that's when he's got Quen on, and while he's not immune to it you can't do any damage to him in that state. They really need to patch the game so he uses Quen less often, it makes the fight incredibly frustrating.
I've "killed" him with my first try, was nothing too serious. Quen + Yrden. I was surprised though, I was expecting to load a lot.

Unless I'm mistaken, it renders the game at X times your resolution then takes it down to your resolution, eliminating jaggies in the (currently) best possible way. 4x SSAA (SuperSampling AntiAliasing, the proper name) pretty much renders the game at 4x your resolution, so [del](1920x4)x(1080x4)=7680x4320[/del] as Nathax said, it's 3840x2160, not 7680x4320.
to anyone who's completed the game: can you fuck ves or is she a die hard lesbian 4 lyfe
Yes you can if you are on Roche's path. You have to win tournament and then fight with her in Detmold's camp. Then she will ask you to meet her at Blue Stripes camp, you have to seduce her there.

it would actually render at 3840x2160 (4x 1080p) since 7680x4320 is 16x 1080p

Yeah you're right, I multiplied it by 2x too much.
Announcing this again.
I have a problem with a quest in chapter 2:
Announcing this again.
[sp]go back up the quarry and take the path to the right (that leads to the trolls) and follow the path off to the left (i think) in there and find the exit that leads to a boat. either follow the shadow like it says or just search the walls opposite the boat, the door is behind some bushy vines[/sp]
How the fuck am I supposed to [sp]defeat those 5 Scoia'Tael (or whatever their fucking name is) at the waterfall? The drowners don't help at all, I barely damage them when I do hit (I'd need around 20 hits to kill one), I can only parry twice before that yellow bar is depleted (but they can parry infinitely even though I'm fucking using a large steel sword they can just shrug off the blow with their little knives), Quen won't help much at all and the game put a checkpoint just before the fight so I can't drink potions.[/sp]
Also [sp]the idea with not telling the guards that elves had killed the ones in the cave was that I'd then extract information from the elf bitch there and then, not meet her in an obvious ambush.[/sp]
[editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
There, got them without even getting under 50% health. I was jacked up as fuck on potions but hey it worked.
Too bad this game is pretty much unplayable for me :frown:
I have to run this game in 640x480, it makes me sad.

Starting it up now to see what it's like for me. From looking at screenshots I see that the aliasing is really bad, I'm used to the highest settings with 8xAA on Dragon Age: Origins and I hope I can get some AA on this.
I'm not sure if I should get this game or not.
Looks awesome though

I got it on the 'if you liked Dragon Age, you'll love this' basis.
The text is like 3/4 pixels wide on 640x480, so I can't read anything properly either without staring at it for a long time.
