There are two Witcher threads, usually what happens is there's a week period when people post in them and then they fall back pages for a couple of weeks until someone goes and revives them.
The Witcher 2 has gone gold? How is that possible? PC games don't sell! PC gaming is dead! PC gamers are a bunch of pirates! :P EDIT: rate me dumb I thought 'gone gold' meant pre-orders reached a specific amount. :p
For Australians interested in purchasing The Witcher 2 you may be interested in knowing that it has been censored. Surprisingly however it's only one side quest where you are offered sex as a reward. The quest and the character are still in the game but they are just in a "slightly different context". As expected it passed through with an MA15+ rating. Source I expect the game will once again be available for pre-order on Steam soon as I suspect the reason it was removed was because it was being classified and censored.
And that's actually going to stop Australians from downloading a uncensored mod anyway?, owned.

More news for us Australians. The price has been adjusted on Steam to $75USD ($67.49USD with 10% discount) and will be adjusted on gog.com at 1AM EST(unsure if AEST at the moment) to $69.99 ($62.99 with 10% discount). So essentially we're paying a lot more for a censored game. I am still unsure if I want to pre-purchase but I'm going to have to make my mind up quickly. If anyone is able to help me make my decision it would be appreciated. I never played the previous game in The Witcher series and am not really sure what to expect from The Witcher 2. [editline]6th May 2011[/editline] Turns out on gog.com you can pre-order without actually paying. I advise any other Australian's considering pre-ordering to do so now so if you do you save some money. [editline]6th May 2011[/editline] I enjoyed games from the Elder Scroll series. How close is The Witcher/The Witcher 2 to TES IV for example in terms of RPG elements(i.e. looting bodies, exploring caves/dungeons, "living" villages/towns etc)

The first game had a great story and narrative, RPG elements and a solid dreary Eastern European atmosphere. If the sequel stays faithful to any of these aspects it's bound to be a great game. It has also been mentioned that you don't need to have played the first game to get everything out of this one, they're trying their hardest to make it an accessible and self-contained story.

Woah mama.
Due to the music, this has got to be the most intense nude photoshoot I've seen.
Can't access, due to LAN not allowing youtube.
S'not looking good bros, lot of decline with all that incline, alchemies are streamlined, DLCs are day 1'd, Tomasz Gop still doesn't know what an RPG is. [editline]7th May 2011[/editline] http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-gameplay-the-witcher/713622 S'looking good bros, lots of activity and routines, fishermen are fishing, gossipers are gossiping, Tomasz Gop still doesn't know what an RPG is.
This is releasing next week, why is this on page 5? Anyways, update:
I never played Witcher series (nor seen any gameplay vids or stuff) and i have a question would someone like me like it? i like stuff like oblivion, fable, and fallout 3/nv and all that but i don't like rpgs's that feel like World of warcraft or anything like that. Basically i like rpgs that arn't too complicated but arn't fucking easy retard tap button shit

The difficulty comes from picking the right potion mix, combat styles, oils for your weapons and the right type of magic for each fight. I wouldn't say that the game is too complicated, though a lot of things are never explained. The story and the atmosphere are the best parts of the game though, it has to be the best RPG story I've played through. The combat system in The Witcher 2 seems to be better, with a more actiony approach, you have a light attack and a strong attack with various combos and block and dodge buttons.
Hey, so no Shani. Feels bad man.
I should probably note that The Witcher 1 isn't open world (well you can walk around freely but no were as open as Oblivion or Fallout), it's a story driven RPG more then anything. I'm not sure if The Witcher 2 will be the same though.
For those of you who don't already know, The Witcher 1 is available on GoG for $5 until May 26th. As someone who hasn't played any of the games in The Witcher series before I purchased it along with The Witcher 2 just so I get the full experience.

I've never played a Witcher game before, but this looks epic! Gonna have to check out the first one whilst I wait for Witcher 2! woot.
All the previews of this game have been glowing. Also, I LOVED what one preview said: "This game is a PC exclusive and was designed as one and it shows. The game is gorgeous and no compromises have been made on the road to console" YESSSSS -- Now, if more games could be like this. For those who never played Witcher 1, it's one of those games that you have to put several hours into before it gets really good but after that, it is incredible. Sad the first areas are really poor..
Five days. And it also comes out on LA Noire day. Damn. Not enough good singleplayer games have come out recently, but now the summer is going to be saturated with them.

That's what kills me about the console vs PC war... there is nothing to debate. When it is designed for console AND PC = compromise in graphics and usually design. Imagine Red Dead Redemption as a PC exclusive... :O
Contradicted yourself there.
i was talking about idiocy like dragon age 2
Since I decided to preorder The Witcher 2, I've finally got around to playing The Witcher, which I've had lying around for ages. I'm a little way into chapter 2 by now and think I can safely say a few things:

The graphics are OK, but unpolished. The blatant reuse of character models is even worse than Dragon Age.
Voice acting is decent, not as bad as it could be, not as good as it could be.
Combat is... weird. I'm used to it by now but it doesn't exactly make you feel involved in the action, on top of being a bit buggy sometimes.
Dice Poker is hard. I guess that the fact that I don't know what the fuck to do has something to do with that.
Fistfighting is completely broken.
The moral choices are really great, never before have I seen a game where the moral choices are actually choices, rather than 'Get good karma points and less money or bad karma points and more money'. Your choices actually having ramifications further on in the game is also very cool.
The overall story lacks momentum. The bad guys are pretty vague and unthreatening, the main bad guy only being seen once. I still want to see what happens, it's just that there's not much emotional investment in there.
'kill 10 x' quests, while kind of excusable given the guy you're playing, are a tad unimaginative. I make a point of not playing them.
The characters, while not incredibly annoying, aren't exactly brilliant. None as well written as DAO's Alistair or KOTORII's Kreia at any rate. Half of them sharing the same character model doesn't help.
The levelling up/alchemy is quite cool, though I wish you didn't have to find a campfire/guy with a sleep option so you could level up/wait.
The interface is pretty ugly and tedious to use. DA:O had a more conservative interface but it was also one that didn't get in the way.
CD Projekt REALLY like redheads. And cleavage. And redheads with cleavage. Not that I'm complaining.
I'm still enjoying it though and it might keep my interest long enough to see it through to the end. Nice to see youtube not taking down anything with even a hint of nudity anymore though.
Don't forget the magnificent sex cards! Glorious uncensored boobage! Well, unless you are playing the censored version of the game ofcourse.
Don't forget the magnificent sex cards! Glorious uncensored boobage! Well, unless you are playing the censored version of the game ofcourse.
Seems a bit weird how the sex scenes themselves are nothing more than vague blurry romps then BAM, you're faced with some jarring, if masterfully drawn uncensored boobs. Besides, for a game so wanting to be mature and taken seriously reducing sex to the level of baseball cards isn't exactly the best way to go about it. Oh well, guess it appeals to the 'magic the gathering strip poker' portion of the fanbase.

It's one of the few minigames i've ever bothered doing in any game i can think of right now. Other developers could learn alot from CD Projekt. Everyone so worried about their ratings... Do what is right for the game, don't limit yourself. Sex cards were not really "right", but i admire them for their courage.
Monk, sadly for me, the game really doesn't pick up/get good until Chapter 3 and beyond. The ending is FANTASTIC... but I only know one other person out of all my gaming friends that made it past Chapter 2. Some poor design choices on a fantastic game..
