Polish people are apparently infatuated with the word "plough".

Doesn't have much impact in the other game. Also, OBR, the Squirrels were the douchebags. [sp]Seriously, holding up a bank?[/sp] :colbert:

Use traps if you're afraid to get in melee range, you line up 15 snare traps and line it up so he charges at them, he'll die like, instantly.
Snare traps are awesome. They do decent damage, are reusable, and they are pretty much everywhere around the forests of flotsam. Not sure if they show up anywhere else in the game, since I'm still in flotsam. I hope not, because it really adds to the feel of the area I think, and it would be awesome to use them later on in the game as "that tool I acquired from dark forests around flotsam" as a unique little ability/item that ties directly with that local area. Would make it feel more special, I dunno :v: It's like finding a special bow or ability or something in some other RPG that is unique to the area you got it from.
Anyways, killed a "boss creature" at the end of a dungeon by lining up snare traps and luring him into them. Makes you feel so bad ass using creative solutions to kill monsters. Worked good too since the bastard dies in an explosive poison cloud that kills you.
Only annoying thing about them is you have to disarm the trap before you pick it up every time, so laying down 15 snares means you'll have to have to spend several minutes picking them all up and sitting through the animation.

Wait for his charge attack, dodge out of the way, hit him in the back until he blocks, and then jump away. Repeat ad infinitum.
Speaking of that guy, he is so badass looking.
Yeah doesn't make sense to me, especially since rolling does not require vigor. Makes combat unncessicarily hard.
I understand they don't want you to be able to block 24/7, but there has to be a better way to do it then to make it so it uses vigor.
If they do that, and make it so quen is less OP that would balance out a lot of the difficulty curve the game has. Makes it so early game fights are more manageable slightly, and maybe makes it so quen isn't so OP that if you use it, you'll never die.
IMO quen should just reduce damage by half, with a critical chance of negating all damage to an attack (which it would do an effect for). Mix this in with a better blocking mechanic and it won't be so crazy.
I think they should just give you the entire first tree from the start, block is pretty much useless in the prologue because you can't block attacks from all angles.

They're both assholes. FR is led by a bitter asshole who literally hates everything but employs good minded people as a front for his extermination agenda, the Squirrels are assholes led by a guy with good intentions. There's no right choice. They both suck.
I have an important question about a quest in chapter 2, but i don't know how to use spoiler tags. Can someone help me?

Nevermind, got it.

[sp]Can someone tell me how do i get through the fog to the forest? I want to get the banner from catacombs. But whenever i try to get through the mist I end up in Aedrin again(i try to get out of there, I have the spearhead and the sword).[/sp]
Just started playing this, and I don't know if it's just because I suck, but I'm stuck at the flashback where you have to kill the guards around the ballista in the very beginning.
I'm trying to use the controls I have at my disposal, like parry and roll, etc. But to avoid damage I just end up rolling around like a fucking monkey and still dying anyways.
Why can't I do it :saddowns:

Use quen and focus on one guy at a time. Leave the shield guy for last. If you have no vigor for quen run around til you get enough.

At the beggining, spam the Quen sign. It helps a LOT. You will get used to the mechanics soon. I died like 5 times in this place
When I find some keys I don't know where the locked door is (troll trouble, dwarven catacombs key). When I find locked doors I don't know where to get keys for them :argh:

I don't know if it will work, but i think it won't, It's not that I can't find the teal fog, it's just that it always lead to the same place, damn Aedrin.

But I will try as soon as i get the chance.
So anyone seen that Destructoid review by Jim Sterling where he rates it 6/10?
Yeah, I think someone posted it in the thread a couple pages back.

There should be two crossbow soldiers to the left and right of you behind two bits of cover, take them out first and quickly. Then you're free to experiment with the remaining enemies. Use what you feel comfortable with, and use Quen when you feel you can't win without being cheap.
Finally finished the game, took me 31 hours according to Steam. I did most of the side missions, all of the ones I found anyway.
From what I've heard chapter 2 and 3 are almost completely different depending on your choices, so I'll probably replay the game soon.
Looking back on the game after having beat it, there is quite a bit of rape.
Endgame Spoilers:[sp]It's probably because I sided with Roche, but is Saskia actually the Dragon? I don't remember hearing anything about that, after all I only spoke with her once.[/sp]
Polish people are apparently infatuated with the word "plough".
That's because there's a medieval Polish word, "chędożyć", which basically means "to fuck". It's really hard to translate, because there's no medieval English word with the same meaning that sounds as good.

[sp]Yes, Saskia is the Dragon you get attacked by in the prologue.[/sp]
How was the endgame on Roche's side? Or is it maybe the same end. I just finished it on [sp]Iorveth's side, the ending was kinda silent.[/sp]

And I can't register for the DLC :argh:
When I click register game in the launcher, I try to make an account, it loads for about 10 seconds and then I get a message saying it timed out. When I try to go to thewitcher.com, the register button is grayed out.

[sp]Roche's whole squad is killed and Ves is raped by Henselt, you get the option to kill Henselt after the siege on Vergen (which I gladly took). In Loc Muinne you can save Foltest's daughter who is the sole heir now after her brother was killed. Apart from that though I think it is the exact same, except you don't know what the real deal is with the dragon. Even if you spare/kill it.[/sp]
guess you'll have to wait untill W3 for [sp]what impact killing/saving saskia has. [/sp]
One question, disregarding the fact that I didn't read the entire thread: is it worth it to play W1 before ploughing into the second part? Judging by some parts of the thread it's incredibly boring, but what if the W2 story ties in completely like Mass Effect did? Don't wanna miss out on that...
After more tests on my laptop, I used ThrottleStop and realized my CPU was only staying around 1.1ghz even during gameplay. I found some tweaks and I am able to run Ultra settings (except Uber) around 20-30 FPS! Amazing for a laptop..

Hard call... Witcher 1 is fantastic.. after the first several chapters. It's one of those rare games that get better and better as you go on and it's a long game. So if you want some background on Witcher 2, I'd play it but Witcher 2 is SO much better overall than Witcher 1.. it's hard to recommend starting there.
This is just my opinion of course... I've read the written book "The Last Wish" and LOVED it as a background to who some of the characters are.

Witcher 1 I didn't like at all personally. The pacing is just terrible, and you pretty much play the whole game (as far as I can tell) in Vizima, a city which is pretty ugly to look at and that I didn't find to be an interesting enviornment to play in. The game doesn't start getting decent IMO till Act 3, but I quit cause of so much padding the game has. It's an 80 hour game, but where 60% of it is a lot of padding like backtracking, silly sidequests, etc. The story never really went much of anywhere either the time I played. I imagine acts 4 and up tie those things together, but I couldn't be bothered to play that far into it.
Not having any of those issues with Witcher 2 however, as they really seemed to learn from their mistakes of the first game. Not saying Witcher 1 is terrible, but yeah, witcher 2 is better by far. I got by with reading the Witcher 1 wiki on how the story unfolded after I left off, and was pretty much hunky dory with Witcher 2's background and story (as it is a direct sequel).
Korjax, those are very valid points. Thinking about it more, I guess you could compare it to a band that you hear about are EXCELLENT. Do you start with their first album? Second? Or the best/most polished current album.
For me, I was immediately sucked in by the Witcher opening cinematic. As I got past the unusual pace of the first few chapters, the game and story became amazing. From there, I started to read the Witcher novels and "Last Wish" is FANTASTIC. The ending parts of Witcher 1 are unfortunately the best and I think it is worth playing through.
The Witcher universe is awesome.. too bad that Zumba on Wii sold more copies than Witcher last week :(

Indeed he is, especially when he sits on the throne barking (or should I say thundering) orders.
