I still struggle to get a hold of this game, maybe its my computer but everything just seems too fast... Or I'm getting too slow
I won The Witcher 2 from a PCGamer raffle a while back.
I've raged at it more than I ever have at any game in two years. I was hurling curses at the screen during the prologue, and now I was smashing my head against my desk during the fight with the kingslayer. The Kayran was easy, I only died like 4 times instead of 30.
It's still possibly the best Action-adventure RPG I've ever played. It's not so weighed down with RPG elements and loot like Oblivion and most MMOs, and it concentrates so much more on combat and environment rather than the amount of shit it can cram into itself.
I also refuse to switch down to Easy mode. I'll beat this guy eventually.
do some sidequests and try to level. Also, don't rush into the battle. Prepare some potions and sword oils. When you do fight, hit him with aard and attack. Repeat this. When you run out of vigor, just run around him and try to dodge his attacks.

I've been doing this. I did every available quest in Flotsam, and I mutated my abilities with Greater mutagens and everything. I never had a chance to use any of the potions that I'd stockpiled. I've been doing the roll-and-aard style (helps with the 100% roll skill), but he always manages to hit me a few times with aard or poison before I can hit him. Sometimes, my Q key doesn't respond and he hits me before I can dodge again.
Anyway, it works, I just have to get lucky and concentrate without raging at it again. Dodge like hell, wait for full vigor, then quen, aard, two hard hits and sometimes a small one, then aard again and hit again, then repeat.
It's a hard bossfight. I thought the Kayran would be hard.
So I just got up to Flotsam on Hard after beating the game on normal. Do the enemies take more damage on Hard?
There's a game called The Witcher: Rise Of The White Wolf coming to Xbox and PS3.
Was canceled years ago.
Anybody know how to open this door in the Nekker cave in Flotsam? I can't figure it out.

Probably blow it down with the sign that blows shit down?
Reached the first maddening moment of the game -- HORRID design at the end of Chapter 2 when you fight [sp] The Draug [/sp] -- WTF checkpoint?!
So how many slots does the [sp]Kayran Skin Armor[/sp] have? Darn schematics never tell me shit. :frown:

I believe thats just below that guy's house (Mayor of Flotsam). I didn't unlock it either.
Playing through again on hard. Shit's piss easy now that I know the combat system.

Yrden is your friend on that fight. Only other sign would be Quen on the arrows.
God damn, this game is unforgiving when it comes to forgetting to save. Almost as bad as Deus Ex. "Didn't save? Damn, now you gotta do it all over again."
Just getting into this, and the amount of sideplots is absolutely stunning. In flotsam alone you can join a fight club, steal from Loredo, get kidnapped, and quite a few other miscellaneous things.
I'm loving that they actually got a decent stealth system into the game.
Also, the finishers are really cool in the Fist-Fights.

Haha yeah, when I first died I was enraged by having to do that part again :argh: So I killed [sp]Draug[/sp] in 20 seconds :smug:

What are the rules for dice poker? I keep rolling my dice off the board. :saddowns:

Make smaller mouse movements and you wont roll off the board.
Dice poker works just like normal poker, you roll the dice and your goal is to get the best combination of dice, like a pair, two pair, three of a kind, full house etc. After the first roll, you click on the dice you want to reroll.
Knowing and understanding probability helps too.
Poker was much better in the first game, though I like "realistic dice physics".

Three. Crammed diamond armor enchantments in all of 'em.
Apparently the Polish Prime Minister gifted Obama The Witcher 2.

How do you use the mutagens?
[editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
I'd love to go back to the first game to be able to understand more of the story, but it was really boring. All you did was run from place to place. ALL THE TIME.

Hrm. Now I'm torn between that and my Hunter Armor, which also has 3 slots, to which I slapped diamond and steel armor upgrades. Damn it :frown:

Certain abilities allow you to "Mutate". Look for a tiny circle on the skill "orb". You can't see which skills can be mutated until after you unlock it.
Also, Witcher 1 is sorta slow at the start, but picks up much later. I enjoyed the entire thing thoroughly, though I'm a really patient person. IE: Easily distracted by sidequests :v:
It seems like this happens to me every time I play any RPG: I go out of my way to get materials and invest in the creation of a sweet set of armor or weapons, and then in the next area or 2, I immediately find some that's better than what I spent my resources on.
I made a Robust Red Meteorite Silver Sword in that military camp, and just found a silver "Blood Sword", with better damage and whatnot. This is why I barely upgrading my weapons and armor.
Incidentally, anyone know where to find runes, like Fire and Moon, guaranteed? I'm in Act 2 - Roche if it matters.

Usually blacksmiths carry runes and the diagrams for them in their shop, I have no idea how the Roche path plays out so finding a blacksmith somewhere and looking in their shop is your best bet I guess.

Any tips for playing Dice Poker? I fail at it (And I'm trying to get the She-Troll head from Sendler)
Any tips for playing Dice Poker? I fail at it (And I'm trying to get the She-Troll head from Sendler)
When you get a shitty roll, when you re-roll, left click the dice you want to re-roll. Try to get pairs/triplets etc of dice (two threes, three fours, etc) because AFAIK they're the best way to get points, so don't re-roll them. If the other guy gets like, four sixes, you might as well "Pass" after your first roll so you lose as little money as possible (you're not gonna win that round)
I'm loving that they actually got a decent stealth system into the game.

I feel they could have worked on the stealth system a bit more. The sliding up against walls thing is too finicky and attacks from the on the wall position would have been a good addition. Also you only use it in like two missions. Unless there's a side quest I missed or something.

You can also get a "Full House" by 2 3 4 5 6. Apparently 1 2 3 4 5 doesn't work, and that fucker tavern keep yanked me of my coin :argh:

I wish they explained how to stay in stealth. I was running around, trying to be sneaky with my club out. Turns out you have to sheathe your thing before trying. I bumped into a guard and mashed the right click trying to KO him. Instead had to blow everyone up. :v:
Both 2 3 4 5 6 and 1 2 3 4 5 should work, according to the manual anyway. Also that's called a straight, not full house.
Full house, four of a kind and five of a kind are better than a straight, so maybe he just had a better roll than you.
