How many chapters are there? Hopefully it's a long game, I am only as far as [sp]seeing that tentacle and talking to the mage[/sp]
You got a long way ahead. It depends a lot on your play style too. If you're like me and like to take it slow, explore every rock, do every quest and talk to everyone it'll take you over 30 hours for the game. The game has 3 chapters, a prologue and an epilogue. Though, Chapter 3 and Epilogue are rather short.
Decided to buy The Witcher 2.
Decided to buy The Witcher 2.
Best. Choice. Ever. It so far is in my Top 3 games of all time. But that's just me :)
Is the game open ended? Like can I play at the end?
If you mean that if you're able to continue playing after you finish the game, no. And the game isn't sandbox style, but the areas are decently big and there is a lot to explore.
Dammit, you are making it seem so short.
I had the same feeling, but it isn't really short. If you take it slow and explore everything, read every journal entry, do all quests, talk to everyone etc, it will take you way over 30 hours(So far I'm at 31 hours, just got to Chapter 3). And, beside that, depending on your choice at the end of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and 3 are completely different, so it's basically a must to replay the game in order to see it all.
Anyone else think that the Whirl talent in swordsmanship is nearly invaluable? Personally, I grabbed both Quen talents and Whirl before even deciding what I wanted to put most of my points into.
Any tips for the newbie?
God..FUCKING dammit. I just spent an hour and a half doing quests and finished like 2 or 3. Then suddenly I die in one of them thinking "Oh I saw the save icon like 5 times. I just saw it a minute ago so I should only be a minute behind." Well apparently Auto-save wasn't fucking working and now I'm back at the beginning almost an hour and a half ago.
So I thought someone actually left a nickel or something in the letter thing you get with the game. :v:
Oh god, the part in the quest "The Eternal Battle" where you have to [sp]control some dead soldier on the field[/sp] is fucking bullshit. You're slow as shit, your attacks are slow as shit, you can't roll, no signs, no bombs, and you have to rely on the game's shitty and broken blocking system.

That was the easiest part of the game.
That part is easy as fuck. Wait until you fight [sp]Draug, he's a bad mofo.[/sp]
Managed to get through it after I got the hang of blocking since I never block when I play at all
Is it just me or is this game damn hard? I've died about 10 times in the prologue and I'm at the part with the dragon.
Is it just me or is this game damn hard? I've died about 10 times in the prologue and I'm at the part with the dragon.
It took me forever to get past the prologue, just keep getting at it.
Have you guys tried to play the second one, but with the original Polish dub? I just found it interesting to see the game in very original form, and hey, its really good (and you can turn on the ENG subs as well).
Is it just me or is this game damn hard? I've died about 10 times in the prologue and I'm at the part with the dragon.
I agree, this game can be extraordinarily difficult and frustrating at times. On a related note, I have single-handedly set off every bear trap around Flotsam.
I also thought this game was super difficult.. then I remembered Demon's Souls. :) And for those worrying about this game being "too short", I wouldn't worry at all. I don't know how many hours I am in (30+ if I could guess) and I just barely got to Chapter 3. The game is fantastic and I can't wait to replay it...
I think it seems short because of how they set up the story structure. Its a matter of perception. By naming the acts 1, 2, and 3 without any subsections it seems much shorter than it is since three isn't a big number. Also you have that feeling of dread that the game is ending, especially if they number the sections so after chapter 1 you'll go "oh no I've only got 2/3 chapters to go" and then the game ends. [editline]30th May 2011[/editline] Hah after reading the first Witcher novel and thinking about one of the quests in The Witcher 1, I realized what Shani and Dandelion were talking about when they were mentioned the "thing Dandelion interrupted in the past."
The autotargeting really pisses me off. Many times I've died while fighting a miniboss in the middle of a mob because while dueling someone the game arbitrarily decided it wanted to auto-target me to some opponent halfway across the room for no damn reason other than to do some "flashy" animation, which ends up getting me killed as it is ALWAYS in the middle of all the enemies (which just turn around as if my leap through the air never happened).
Just got to the last chapter. [sp]Had Roche kill the king. Don't know if it was a good idea or not but whatever.[/sp]
Is it just me or is this game damn hard? I've died about 10 times in the prologue and I'm at the part with the dragon.
First play-through (actually more like the prologue) seems very hard even on normal, but once you get the hang of the combat system it's easy even on hard.
Just beat the game. Kind of a dull ending but hey whatever. [sp]The dragon took fucking FOREVER to kill. Took me like 10 minutes and died at the fucking quick time at the end. The good thing is it saves right before the quick time so I was able to go back and do it quite easily.[/sp]
How do i destroy nests? If i need a item, what item is it and where can i get it?
How do i destroy nests? If i need a item, what item is it and where can i get it?
Go to Cedric - he sells the bombs needed. He can also sell you the schematics for them.
How do i destroy nests? If i need a item, what item is it and where can i get it?
Grapeshot bombs.
Just finished the game in 30 hours flat. I am satisfied. However, looking back, I'm not sure if I made the right choices. I stuck with [sp]Roche[/sp] I think the whole way. At the summit, I [sp]killed Henselt, chose to save the daughter instead of Triss, and suddenly all the mages are being murdered at glance. I also spared the dragon and Sile.[/sp] I was trying to make non-humans and humans become more chill with each other, but I think I either failed at that, or succeeded at the cost of everyone's relations with [sp]sorcerers and sorceresses everywhere[/sp]. So I think I'll play again, make slightly different choices. Pity I can't restart with all my gear.
