And what's with all of the rape? It's kind of off putting.
it follows more along the code of what happened in those older days. there were nobles, serfs, soldiers and peasants but it didn't matter who you are if soldiers masse around. pride gets to them and a lot more crimes are commited by the army than by the people in dire need. in flotsam, for example, the soldiers did pretty much whatever they want because of loredo and this is relatively explained but in chapter 3 you hear a lot of rape solely because there's the sorceresses chilling around with, like, five armies worth of of men because of the negotiations. obviously rape is imminent if shit hits the fan
Should i play the first game before playing the second?
this question is asked every page it's not essential, but it makes things a little easier to understand at first, though I'd say reading the books is a much better prologue to this game than the first game ever was, and they're more entertaining than most of the first game too
It kind of makes me want the option of [sp]Helping Letho and the Nilfgaardians[/sp]
I doubt the Nilfgaardians are much different.
I've played both games and read about a quarter of 'The Last Wish' and I still have no idea why everyone the nilfgaardians hate everyone.
I still have no idea why everyone the nilfgaardians hate everyone.
I've played both games, and I hate everyone. [sp]Except for maybe Zoltan[/sp]
i love how you can play as dandelion and can kind of be wise and surprise geralt or you can be typical dandelion and geralt goes all "wow, that fucking idiot actually went in!" it just adds SO much more character when you can make decisions as other people. it's insane

Actually it would have been funny if he would die for his carelessness. I would reload though he's some funny bloke.
I doubt the Nilfgaardians are much different.
They have the smartest leadership and they aren't rapist, sure they're territorial bastards, but so is everyone else in this game. And they look cool.
They have the smartest leadership and they aren't rapist, sure they're territorial bastards, but so is everyone else in this game. And they look cool.
I doubt their soldiers aren't rapists. Some of them probably are, just given the right circumstances. I don't like Nilfgaardians tbh.
They have the smartest leadership and they aren't rapist
Oh, i'm sure plenty of them have raped and pillaged before.
Oh, i'm sure plenty of them have raped and pillaged before.
Well it's war, so no doubt, but they're easily more disciplined than all of the Northern kingdoms. [sp]And they didn't rape Triss[/sp] but yeah, pretty much every faction is awful.
[sp]And they didn't rape Triss[/sp]
Is this ever stated?
Is this ever stated?
[sp]she was never raped prior to the witcher 2 (unless geralt is a rapist and she doesn't mind) and she was never raped at the end of the game; the only rape victims were two sorceresses whom, if you play with iorveth at your side, you can save[/sp]
[sp]if you play with iorveth at your side, you can save[/sp]
Really? [sp]Who are the two sorceresses? I've only played through up to that point once, and I was with Roche the bro.[/sp]
Really? [sp]Who are the two sorceresses? I've only played through up to that point once, and I was with Roche the bro.[/sp]
[sp]they're nobody you've met prior -- they're just two completely unfamiliar faces just chillin'.[/sp]
How much exploration is there in this game? Is there ever a time at which you're dropped into a big open field and just let loose? I buy RPGs all the time and never finish them (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, tons of console RPGs) because I just lose interest about halfway through. The only RPGs to ever successfully hold my attention are Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Oblivion, and that's really because the exploration is just so enjoyable. So I'm OK with it being a mostly linear game, but if it feels like a series of corridors (like Dragon Age) I somehow doubt I'll make it all the way through.
~remarkably convincing :words:~
Sounds awesome. I just didn't really like how constrictive Dragon Age felt, and how it never really felt like a 'world' -- just a series of areas connected by load screens. And I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I couldn't be arsed to care about the story or characters are terrible lot in DA, least of all the voiceless player character. It definitely sounds like The Witcher does a better job of drawing you in. Now it's just a matter of which version to get, I think. They did get rid of the DRM on all the versions, right? I'm thinking I'll go for retail since I'd like the premium edition bonuses physically, but I don't really want to have to put in a disc every time I play...
After some consideration I have come to the conclusion that for now, in some ways The Witcher 1 is a better game than 2, and vice versa.
Also, how well optimized is this? I've got a Nvidia 9800 GTX+, which has been able to max pretty much every game I've yet played, excluding the shit-optimized Total War games. I'm 99% certain I'll be able to run it, but if I could get it to look as nice as it does in the promotional screenshots and videos, that'd be awfully nice. :v:
i'm pretty upset that steam has yet to update to patch 1.2 so we steam users don't get all of the new dlc and patch contents yet. i've been holding off on my third playthrough until that happens and it's pretty frustrating because it's been too long for comfort [editline]5th June 2011[/editline]
Also, how well optimized is this? Your processor is more important really.
Likely, you'll be able to run it, but I think maybe just about. Your processor is more important really.
Shit, my processor is awful. (Triple-core AMD Phenom, 2.1 GHz.)
How long have play throughs been in TW2?
my first playthrough was like 22 hours or something second playthrough was about 14
my first playthrough was like 22 hours or something second playthrough was about 14
First playthrough took me 37 hours. You must've rushed.
I just beat the first game last night, it's such an incredible game.
First playthrough took me 37 hours. You must've rushed.
not really. i did (most) of the side quests -- reason being i didn't see a few of them until my second playthrough and even then it took me far less time and i had accomplished more you must just be really slow
First playthrough took me 37 hours. You must've rushed.
Mine was in the thirties too, granted I did a lot of wandering around and did most if not all of the sidequests.
