steam got the 1.2 update, but its 9gb again, there is any workaround to not download 9gb again
Oh wow. Oh wow, they seriously can't make some sort of patcher for this? Anything, but downloading 9GB all over again, it's just absurd for some small files packed inside it.
Use your medallion (Z key), it shows up on the ground where the blood trails are in a bright orange glow.
It still is kind of a mess, though.
I could of tried that before, but it really doesn't matter now.
it hardly helps.
[sp]cedric is just chilling by the little pond with the waterfall if you are ever looking for him again. he doesn't randomly move around afaik[/sp]
What the hell.
9GB update again. What is wrong with Steam god dammit.
^ I found him awhile ago, I even properly past him alot of times by accident. :p

The trick is to use [sp]the Cat potion. It turns the inanimate world into sepia color while blood (including Cedric's) glows bright orange, even through walls[/sp]. It makes the blood trail really easy to follow.
Man, i love downloading a HD worth for one game under 80 KB/s. Whoever is responsible for this shit deserves a good ass-pounding.

It has to do with there being a very large file in the game. Steam doesn't know how to update just a small part of it, or doesn't care (couldn't they just get a patch from the developers?)
the problem is that steam's witcher 2 content is made in to huge file packs. rather than updating bits, it just redownloads the whole file all over again

Getting the second one this weekend, how is it?
30-some threads saying "it's amazing" dude
Let me reiterate, what's so good about it?

Everything.
Let me reiterate, what's so good about it?
play it and ask yourself "what ISN'T good about it?"
dude. it's nothing like dragon age at all. there's maybe like one or two quests that are an absolute bore but they're just side quests and you don't even have to do them to earn anything astounding
the game just sucks you in to it and you get hooked. the main reason you play is just to progress through the story because it grips you so much because the beginning of the game is SO intense and you just keep playing to unfold this intense story that makes your mouth water for more
the gameplay is very difficult -- even for seasoned hack-and-slash players but it's very rewarding. the best part about it is that the game is, like, medieval as fuck. there's elves and magic, sure, but the game just follows oldschool medieval everything right down to the bone. no katanas; no dorky anime hair and faces. it's gritty, it's cool -- it's witcher 2.
buy it

to answer your "open world" question, a lot of the game is based in you getting quests etc in a town or village type of environment, obviously like any other role playing game, and then you venture forth in to a big area to accomplish your quests. it's not like dragon age where you go from point A to point B and never see point A again; it's more like you just keep unfolding the events that happen in a same area and get to know all of the major characters in that area and learn about the lore. it's very deep but at the same time the game just feels like metal gear with every cutscene because you're just given so much intense detail
[editline]5th June 2011[/editline]
oh, ALSO, unlike in dragon age where you get a choice here and there that doesn't really effect gameplay too much, witcher 2 gives you WHOLE other courses. for example you can follow a king and his army and destroy some annoying elves and dwarves or you can fight for the elves and dwarves and find out they're fighting back for legit reasons
both areas have their own distinct personalities and have their own massive stories and line of quests you can play through. the limits are hardly held by any kind of reigns; there's just so much for a roleplaying game in it
Argh, not this 9 GB crap again.
Well, at least the patch was released. It was abnormally large again, but at least it released.

Is that what cat does? I thought it was always going to be some kind of night vision screen brightening effect, so I've never used it.

It can be used as night vision. It makes it easier to see in the dark, including enemies (I used it a lot in the cave part)

Also it's neat since you see all their veins and stuff
This game was really hard at first but I think I have the combat down now: 1) shoot aard at enemy 2) right click 3) roll away 4) repeat until all enemies have been vanquished
Holy christ this game looks fantastic. I can't wait for the weekend.
Damn, I hate sneaking into that camp and getting raped by soldiers.
You know, I thought Witcher 2 would be different than other RPGs for me, but no, I'm still the same old man.
I always end up collecting armors and weapons, swearing that I'll switch between them (+15% bleeding on this one, but the other has +12% poison) when I come up against different enemies, but noooo. All I end up doing is sitting there with my weight limit about 5 off the max and then I go and sell all my shit because I end up sticking with the one I last found. It's the same way with crafting items. I have a ton of ore, oil, cloth, leather, and timber, all of which I haven't used once.
Bah.
It's not your fault, really. I think TW2 stretched itself a bit too far with the crafting system. The inventory is clunky and the crafting system, with all the associated otherwise-useless items, feels a bit unnecessary to be honest The Witcher is not a survival or sandbox game; collecting materials to haul to a smith to craft into equipment seems like a tack-on feature that doesn't accomplish much except steal time from the otherwise great game, especially since the craftable traps and daggers don't add much to the already excellent combat system. We already have signs for both traps and range attacks and switching between those is complex enough. Armor and weapon crafting is cool but the equipment modding feature would have sufficed on its own, I think.
In the end, I just downloaded a "no item weight"-mod. Being a packrat always collecting whatever I could find, micromanaging my inventory and running back and fourth between loot and crafters just felt like a hindrance to my experience. I personally believe that the crafting system was an experiment and if they ever make another Witcher game we won't see it again.
Kept getting pwned by soldiers in the camp, I got so far, it doesn't really matter what I did, even using axii sometimes on guards, still alerts them if you clear in their way. anyone got a save before entering where triss is?

God damn women keep offering sex to me. Okay, so I saved your life. I just want orens for my armor, fuck your sloppy cunt. :colbert:
So how do I use mutagens?
So how do I use mutagens?
Go to your Character development screen and look for skills with a small "orb". Those can be mutated with mutagens. But you can't tell which skills can be mutated until after you unlock it. Which is balls, really.
