WHAT? And [sp]leave Triss behind after all she's done for you?[/sp]. You monster! :ohdear:
My reasoning was that I already had boned her a few times so I might as well go net me a different ass to bone (didn't turn out as I expected though, all I got was a welcome to that retardedly-planned dorf city).
When you go Roche though I went to [sp]save Triss, lest you end up without anything to fuck. Letho is a bro though so he saves Triss either way (at least he does on Iorveth's path, I think he does on Roche's path to).
I liked Iorveth's path a lot more, sadly Roche is on the other side, that guy is awesome.[/sp]
It's obvious who gets it worse.
[editline]13th June 2011[/editline]
Can you even [sp]Kill Henselt if you side with Iorveth? I kind of feel bad that I didn't kill Letho because Foltest was a bro and I made a promise to Roche[/sp] :saddowns:
[sp]I don't think you can. As for Foltest, yeah I liked that guy, but when Letho saved Triss and only wanted to help Witchers in the south, I'm not fighting him. I'll take it all out on the true responsible, the Emperor of Nilfgaard (if I get to, that is).[/sp]
Alright I chose to save [sp]my red-head compatriot over the icon and leader of the rebellious free state. I suppose without Saskia upper-Aedirn cannot exist the way it was planned to. Though in my defense I did not actually know saving Triss would make it impossible to free Saskia[/sp]. I chose to [sp]kill Letho because his goals were selfish (at least on the bigger scale; basically sacrificing all of the northern kingdoms to the Nilfgaardian mega-empire just to save his witcher school) and because he appeared to have no problems with either slaying the kings or making Geralt scapegoat for it[/sp].
On a related note, at what point does Letho [sp]save Triss from the Nilfgaardians? As far as I can remember, playing Iorveth's path, she was captured by them after encountering the trolls and was transfigured into a statuette all the time until she was released and then imprisoned in Loc Muinne?[/sp]
Edit
Beat it a few hours ago on Roche's line, damn good game, my favorite part was [sp]roche castrating Dethmold[/sp]
I still think I made all the right choices during my first playthrough. I even got Roche to still be my bro even after I went with Iorveth. I firmly believe that fighting for equality alongside Saskia was the right thing to do. and [sp]letting Letho live is a much better ending than killing him[/sp]

I looked at the bigger picture. [sp]freeing saskia is much more important than saving a piece of ass[/sp]
OK, FUCK THE WITCHER 1. Fuck it. It's fucking impossible. The first major battle (against 'The Beast') is fucking impossible. I give up.
If The Witcher 2 is anything like this, I'm going to regret that purchase greatly.

I just beat it too. Not sure why people bitch at the ending, I thought it wrapped things up nicely. At least for my character, who wasn't politically motivated and who's aims were to get back to the good ol' Witcher life and save the girl, which he did at the end.
The choice at the end of the game was brilliantly executed though - I spent just about as much time thinking about what I should do there as I did for Dragon Age 1's end game choice. You REALLY want to choose to go one way for personal and character reasons but REALLY want to choose to go another way for other reasons.
[sp]I chose to let Letho live, despite playing a goody character that sided with Roche and who saved Triss myself. I feel like I was obligated to kill Letho for Roche but the nice chat we had, the fact that there was already so much blood spilled anyways, and that I was a nice guy who had already achieved my major goal of saving Triss and doing the "witcher thing", I felt like I had to let Letho live. This is gonna get awkward on my 2nd playthrough when I'll kill him as an evil bad-ass character, seeing as alot of the choices I made during my current playthrough were very "anti-Letho".
It helps that they really made him an awesome character and villain. The choice would of been meaningless if we had a lot of facetime together and he was one-demensional. But luckily Letho wasn't, and was a pretty awesome character. Which is why the choice was so hard for me. I really wanted to serve justice, but in the end my ties with the political situation were far less than my ties with Triss. Yeah, Letho kidnapped Triss but... it was the Nilfguard who actually compressed her and captured her.
[/sp]
I really hope they pull an ME2 with the sequel to this though - I'd love it if my choices had a direct impact in the third game. We need something to make up for the catastrophie that DA2 was in this regard.
But anyways, great game and satsifying ending. Sure it left the political strings hanging, but the whole point of the game was to try and sever yourself from the political situation in my eyes right from the beginning when Geralt asks Foltest if he may leave his side. In the end I achieved that. Though I can understand how more politically involved players would feel unsatsified.
I should say though, I really didn't understand, care or have absolutely any connection to any of the nations or kings or characters that related to the politics at all while playing the game. The game does a poor job of making you involved in the politics and just makes your character suddenly start talking as if he has deep political knowledge when events happen despite me not being invested at all. Oddly though, it wasn't until I finished that I became invested into the world and the nations. The events at the end made me finally "get it" and [sp]the game giving you a political break to do the Witcher thing for once by letting you have your one on one personal battle with Letho or chat with him was what I really needed before I could become invested into the world events it seems...[/sp].
I'm pretty excited for the sequel now. I just wished the game would have dropped the whole "Geralt is a master of politics" and avoided a lot of the personal political banter that happened. Not because I hate politics, but just because the game doesn't set itself up at all for you to care about things until the very end. It really was a large disconnect for me to try and play a character for personal reasons only to have political motivations shoved down your throat every other dialog tree, because I simply didn't have any connection to the kings or the territory.
It doesn't help that the game doesn't explain or establish anything regarding the overarching backstory so you just jump in and as political events happen your character essentially acts much more knowledgeable than the player is, creating that disconnect.

Also, totally using this mod my next playthrough:

And thinking about trying this one too, but I fear it might break the gameplay flow like a certain other combat mod for the first Witcher did:

So I resorted to editing in some Specter Oil with a save editor. I hate cheating, especially in RPGs, but oh my god that was the most aggravating boss I've fought in a looooooonnnnngggg time.

Spoiler that shit :\
Done like a dinner.
So I'm planning on getting the Witcher 2, but I'm wondering, should I get the first one instead, in terms of story?
Canceled my Duke Nukem Forever pre-order. Going to get Witcher 2 instead, or should I get the 1st one?
Def get 2.
It's like 1, except much better. Though don't forget to read up on a plot synopsis of the first game before you play 2 otherwise you will be completely lost
use Gog and get both.
What the fuck. [sp]Letho[/sp] can't die for shit.

potions, sword oils, use aard and follow up with strong attacks.
potions, sword oils, use aard and follow up with strong attacks.
Kinda sucks when it just spams Quen and Aard at your face when you get close.
Kinda sucks when it just spams Quen and Aard at your face when you get close.
yeah, you gotta move quickly. Try to get an aard in before he can quen.
and it is absolutely vital that you prep with potions and oils before hand. shit will save your life
Just use Aard and you can get 4 fast swings or 3 slow swings in. Letho is honestly easier than the [sp]dragon fight.[/sp]
I just rolled around like a madman until his quen ran out then closed in for a few attacks.
Just use Aard and you can get 4 fast swings or 3 slow swings in. Letho is honestly easier than the [sp]dragon fight.[/sp]
Really? I found that kinda easy, I only died once throughout it.
Then again, I was a level 34 with some pretty badass equipment and I was using Quen the entire time.

Ya I kinda meant the [sp]dragon[/sp] is already really easy. Beat it on hard without losing any health. Bosses in this game are too short and easy.

Use quen, roll to avoid a lot of his attacks. Yrden works sometimes on him, as does Aard. You're trying to avoid his charges, get behind him and hit him with strong blows. If you manage to succesfully parry some of his blows, you'll get a shot at him again.
Oh, and Korjax, the games assume that you've read some of the Witcher novels, because they are the official continuation of the novel series, I believe. I found that reading the first two provided all the necessary background knowledge to work things out.
