this looks amazing
Don't know if this is the right place to ask such a thing but...
Where is the best/better place to buy The Witcher 2 ? gog.com or from Steam ?
Its cheaper from gog ATM (I don't know if I'll be able to get some money in time though), I get some additional stuff (digital art book :3) and all the money goes directly to devs.
Or should I get it from steam ( I could maybe even trade portal 2 in for it) where its kinda more convenient for me (yes I've been spoiled by steam) and I get achievements, which I've never really cared about though....

The GOG.com version is DRM-free I believe. This means that you don't have to launch a third-party application to start the game, or deal with arbitrary retarded activation systems like Tages or SecuROM. Not that it matters so much if you're fine with using Steam anyway I suppose. Personally I bought my copy off Amazon because I wanted the physical box with all the extra trinkets, but I think I would've gone with GOG's offer otherwise.
There's still some boxed special edition copies left: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Witcher-Premium-PC-DVD/dp/B004CJ8YTO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328473134&sr=8-2

I was leaning more towards the GOG.com version anyway. I just like the little additional stuff. Don't really want any physics items from any special editions of the game (well maybe the medallion they're giving for the 360 version but I ain't got an xbox nor do I intent getting one). Plus the GOG copy is still cheaper (at the moment) than that amazon one.
But If I can trade in Portal 2 for Witcher 2 on steam I would settle for that. On that note...
Can anyone redirect me to a steam trading thread/site/some place where I can offer it for trading ?
P.S. Also does anyone know if the witcher 2 on GOG is on sale right now or is it just that cheap overall there normally ?

GOG is always quite cheap, but the text on that button on their front page gives me the impression it's on sale right now

Oh I forgot about the text saying "Only until Februrary 9". I used to seeing "33% off" and stuff like that (maybe cause of steam) so I was looking for something of the same sort... didn't find it.
Well thanks for pointing it out.
guys i'm at the crossroads, which path is the best to take, do I go [sp]after the witcher or do I find out what the elves are planning?[/sp]
[sp]Both paths lead to pursuing the Kingslayer, the difference is major though. You basically have different Chapter II based on your choice. With Roche you can achieve stability in Temeria, with Iorveth you can change bigger things, in my opinion.[/sp]
does steam take retail keys for this now?
does steam take retail keys for this now?
yes, I activated mine a week ago
yes, I activated mine a week ago
Oh really ? If this is the case then getting it from GOG is a new definite yes for me.
Also does anyone know a trading thread ? Or site ? (trade steam games for...other steam games)
[editline]6th February 2012[/editline]
oh wait... you don't get a retail key from GOG.... do you ?

Also, with Iorveth you get some nice Dialogue easter eggs.
Ah fooked a she elf once.

Also do you get more hookers with Iorveth?
yes, I activated mine a week ago
Not for my retail W2. Just tried it and didn't work.

Mine's the russian retail from Int keys. Where did you get yours from?
It's the NTSC version. Got it from Amazon.

oh wow, I am lucky
Nope, sorry. You only get Steam achievements if you buy it from Steam. The one exception to that is the Russian 1C release, though I'm not sure if that was only for a limited time or not.
I read somewhere on the GOG forums or something that only retail copies from Russia, Latvia and some other places (where there is some kind of 1C publisher, that's the name or something) are possible to be activated on steam...

Here's the thread ( on the steam forums... thanks memory)
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2046580
I have a question for people who played the first game or maybe read the books because I did neither of those. In Witcher 2 [sp]Geralt talks about his lost memories. Amnesia he suffers because of the Wild Hunt. He regains most of them during the game but I'm not sure about few things. Did he had amnesia in the first game, too? Another thing, he tries to find out what happened to Yennefer, who seems to be Geralt's lover from the past. So how did Geralt and Triss got together? The White Wolf seems to be still heavily interested in Yennefer.[/sp]
EDIT:
Nevermind, [sp]I found out he has amnesia in the first game, too.[/sp]
I really wish they'd step up the pace on translating the books, I'm really interested in seeing how the games are tied to the books, since the first flashback that Geralt has in Witcher 2 makes me think they might be tied somehow. [sp]The one where Geralt remembers his and Yennefers death, and how their bodies were taken somewhere by a girl with ashen hair, aka. Ciri. [/sp]
I'm glad TW2 decided to pick up the plot thread about Geralt's amnesia and the Wild Hunt (since the I felt the first game kinda forgot about the whole thing). I didn't really feel as the game followed the plot through enough though. The flashbacks and Geralts own investigations doesn't seem to give any real answers at all, and I was sort of hoping they could wrap that mystery up by the end of TW2. I suppose I wouldn't mind a trilogy though. I hope they step up the pace on that plot thread.
[sp]Well, Witcher 2 takes place in what seems to be autumn. Wild Hunt usually comes in winter and is omen of war. Nilfgardian armies are heading north but Yennefer is somewhere in Nilfgard. So if they make sequel I think we will see the Wild Hunt arrive with Nilfgard to the North. Instead of staying up north though we will follow the Hunt south until we reach Nilfgard where we'll search for Yennefer.[/sp] Meh, these are just my first ideas for the third game, but I'm sure the developers have much better and awesome plans.
Say, I think i'm a little stuck in Chapter 2. I'm in Vizima, [sp]doing the quests that call for investigating a bunch of folks, and I can't seem to find any more leads concerning the suspects;[/sp] I do not know where to look. I assume that if I [sp]find all the Sephirah stones and use them in the Obelisks, I can enter the Tower[/sp], but I don't know where the last couple are. Anyone have any hints?

Have you done the mission involving a prisoner and [sp]an autopsy[/sp]? You need to follow that quest through until its end in order to progress.

I haven't done any [sp]autopsies[/sp] yet, save for skinning objects from monster corpses. Is it something to do with Kalkstein or Shani?
Is it something to do with Kalkstein or Shani?
Yes, sort of. It's part of the investigation. Chapter 2 is a mess of quests and I had troubles myself sorting it out (got stuck like you). I don't remember exactly in what order the quests are triggered, but shortly after entering Vizima you did get a primary quest involving [sp]a certain prisoner at the hospital[/sp], right? Find that quest like and follow it.

You mean the one where the[sp]guy from the gang was in the hospital, and his friends thought I was the enemy when they were trying to bust him out?[/sp] I thought I cleared up that misunderstanding with Ramsmeat...
What's the name of that quest, and what do I need for it?
Jesus fuck. I hated the investigation part. I spent so much time stuck collecting wolf arses or something.

The quest is called "The Crown Witness". It's started by talking to Raymond, which I'm pretty sure you've done by now...?
Personally I liked the investigation. It was not fun getting stuck nor running around back and forth, but the game's writing made the investigation feel really mysterious and believable to me. One could argue that its unnecessarily complex but I enjoyed it, it felt very meaningful to the story.
