Apparently you can get the game on GoG if you have a valid serial. Offer expires on 17th May 2012 at 00:01 CET (GMT+2) I believe.

So I suppose this is the perfect thing to do if you bought the retail for the physical goodies and now want a digital version in case the DVD's are lost in a fire or something?
Two weeks should be enough time to play through TW1 again so we can have a save game ready to carry over to the new TW2 update. aww yeah.
...we can carry over saved games to Witcher 2? That sounds pretty neat; i'm still playing Witcher 1 and am at Act 5 atm. Once i've finished that, i'll be rolling on to Witcher 2 and continue my Geralt's story with the consequences of the previous game having the impact they should have.
Also, I wonder what the Witcher 3'll be like? It'll be a while, so there's plenty of time to make it even more amazing than the previous games. With this update, i'm definitely looking forward to playing Witcher 2 after I sort out the Big Trouble in Little Vizima.
Do the choices I make in Witcher 1 actually have any impact in Witcher 2? Played through 1 a long time ago and lost my saves before 2 came out, and it didn't really seem to take away from the game that I didn't import saves.
Not wanting to disappoint but in my experience the savegame carry-over doesn't affect the story at all, it just decides your starting equipment (Raven armor, Aerondight sword and such).
[editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
After reading up a bit it does indeed seem it affect the game further than that, but just in the form of a few specific characters being alive and/or having a different disposition towards you which may cause a select few events to play out differently (it doesn't affect the main plot at all in the bigger picture though).
New play-through begins tomorrow...
Also got Wednesday off all day .. Yes !!
Super interested to see what changes have been made throughout and to the gameplay wonder if a gamepad may be a better choice for combat now.
Spool: there are a few changes depending on how you played the first game but I believe it only affects a few conversations.
I'll get home on Thursday and if I'm lucky the update won't take more than the night to download so I'll begin on Friday. Also your decisions from TW1 don't handicap you nor help you too much in TW2 which is unfortunate. You get a nice starter gear though. I hope they improve on this for TW3 because some decisions in the second game seem a bit major.
My game on steam keeps trying to a download 11 gigs why
My game on steam keeps trying to a download 11 gigs why
That's the enhanced edition trying to download.
Damn it, i need to wait till next month to download it cause I am over my 60 gig monthly limit, each gig i go over i have to pay 10 bucks. Not gonna pay 110 dollars for 11 gigs :( I just bought the witcher 2, two days ago and was enjoying it, now i have to wait.
if you pause it then steam won't start it up again. if it pauses by itself then it will.
Just a heads up... The steam version is playable with the EE patch.

Didn't Steam just update the game to EE anyway? I downloaded a 11 GB patch for Witcher 2 an hour or two ago.
Same. It took me over a hour to download too.

I wish it would only take me that long. Steam goes between 5-7 hours for this update.
I just got to Chapter 3 in The Witcher. Please tell me it picks the pace up from here on in, the last chapter was extremely boring and really confusing with the quests and characters.

It does, Vizima is the slowest moving chapter in the game. I kinda liked all the detective stuff though.
Tried installing the EE patch on my GOG version of Witcher 2 and it completely corrupted the game. I have to redownload and reinstall the game. Any other GOG guys get this?

How did it corrupt the game? What happened?
How did it corrupt the game? What happened?
It said it was installing the patch and about halfway through the launcher disappeared like it was shut off. After that the game launcher won't execute anymore.
mine tries to extract and says what it tries to extract is corrupt :/
That's weird. Mine installed properly.
Mine downloaded and installed fine.
Oh well I have homework anyway. I can download everything again. Have you guys checked out the EE comic that comes with the patch? It's a neat little piece of work.

Yeah overall there's nothing super game changing from an imported save. While I'd like to play the Witcher 3, I'd rather they take their time and really make sure the actions from the previous two would have consequences in it. Such as [sp]whether you decided to shit all over the king of the wild hunt[/sp] in the first game. Do not read that if you haven't already finished the first game.
Is the Witcher 2 worth buying?
Yes.
