So, I've been told that the new EE version is much more well optimized. Is this true?
No, it's opposite actually.
Before EE it ran at 60 fps on medium graphics. Now I barely get 40 fps at very minimum.

I'm surprised there aren't many, many more model swaps like this one (ME for example is full of them).
Almost done with chapter 2. I can't wait to see all the new stuff in the last chapter.
Anyone got a prologue completed dark-mode save? I just can't be assed to speed run through it yet again (3rd time).
stop quoting the fucking babushka sex scene holy shit
I can't quite decide what to do for a build on my new playthrough. Alchemy just seems fairly useless except for the bomb damage but magic is just overpowered.
Say, this might sound strange, but is there any kind of "Malkavian mod" for the Witcher games, like Deus Ex had?
Also i've heard that Alchemy requires you to be meditating whilst drinking potions; are there any mods to fix that and allow us to drink potions on the fly like in the original Witcher?
The Mysterious Trader feels like cheating to me for some reason, buying very good equipment from him at the start of a chapter just doesn't feel right. And still I keep doing it.
So finished my first playthrough of the EE. I picked Iorveth's path and if I didn't miss anything it looks like those two new adventures are split for each path. On Iorveth's path you once again meet [sp]Cynthia[/sp] and [sp]those two scientists from Flotsam who wanted you to try some substance[/sp]. With them you go search some catacombs. Magical catacombs. With Roche I suspect you get the second one.
Overall the EE brought small eyecandy here and there but especially gave more thorough ending(s). You can see consequences of your decisions but I think all of us want to see how they come to play in, hopefully, the next game.
Oh for fucks sake, got to the second last wave of the arena, had to close the game, then when I come back it's all gone.
So, a day in the Witcher 2 enhanced edition.
Remember all those Snare traps around Flotsam and how they keep getting annoying? Yeah, I picked 20 of them so they wouldn't piss me off anymore.
Fast forward a few hours into the game, I have to fight [sp]Letho[/sp] and he's kicking my ass pretty bad. I killed him with my sword after a few tries, and then the game crashed, so I had to do him again, but this time my sword wouldn't work correctly.
So I thought, heh, let's try this. Those 20 Snare traps? I set them in the arena while he was busy spamming Qwen (Or whatever the shield is called). So, he walks into them, and well, it does more damage than 4 heavy slash with my sword. So I kept putting them.
So, I took a photo of it. (Sort of very early game spoiler, end of chapter 1 I'd say.
Little sense that made, well, there was actually results :

So then I just guessed that he was a dog that couldn't look down.
Retarded plan: 1
Witcher 2 : 0
So yeah, I tested it out and the two new adventures are indeed separated for each path. Each is very entertaining and actually has parts where you need to use your brain. Yeah, get ready for riddles. As for equipment there is new steel sword that has bigger damage than Forgotten Vran Sword and each new adventure gives you a new trophy.
One thing I noticed, in chapter 3 you can unlock diagram for Caerme, a pretty good steel sword. Normally the ingredients have to be collected throughout the game but now with the new quests all the monsters can be found in chapter 3. Now the ingredients can be located without going hours back.
EDIT: Some pics that have less of the color filter.

No thanks. I really don't like using my brain whenever I play games.

Sarcasm?
I've been tempted to get this game for a while, but I've heard that the combat is ridiculously hard (as in bullshit) and that it has mediocre RPG aspects. Is this true?
Sarcasm?
I guess. I'm just not a huge fan of puzzles in games.

I have to vouch that the combat is ridiculously hard in bullshit when you start the game. It's like a mix of Dark souls and hack'n'slash but without the skills involved. During the first chapter of the game the enemies basically kick your fucking ass if you aren't careful. And even when you're careful they still can kick your ass. Cutscenes ends and the enemy has his sword drawn while yours is not, so you're kind of forced to take a hit. The combat with the boss earlier that I described is another load of bullshit because he can take a ridiculous amount of abuse but he can kick you down in mere 2-4 hits. Plus he has an invincibility shield.
The RPG elements however are very fine, and I really like the dialogue and crafting mechanics. The dialogue is pretty funny and witty, and got me laughing a few times. The leveling system made you wish you would level up faster so you could start being good.

RPG elements are great, the combat difficulty was a major issue at launch but it's perfectly fair now, though the rock hard difficulty did make me take advantage of all my abilities so if I was to play it again I might turn it up a tad to recapture the experience.

Said boss (at the end of chapter 1 IIRC) was the hardest point of the game for me (pre patches, I haven't replayed it yet), on normal he was fucking impossible to defeat while on easy he was a fucking pushover.
Its weird, I actually find it more on the easy side now (playing on normal. I got my shit kicked in on normal prepatch up until maybe chapter 3 but this time around I'm breezing through it.)
Also I found the boss at the end of chapter 1 to be the easiest part of it. The hardest part for me was that cave full of those monsters that gang bang you.
I'm playing through it for the first time on Normal, not having any difficulty with enemies.
Only bit that gave me trouble was the Ambush in the Malena quest.

He's really easy if you're patient enough. Just keep rolling until his shield goes down and then make your move. I usually aard him at that point and follow up with a couple of strong attacks. You can easily kill him without getting hit once as long as you keep rolling all the time.

I know it's weird, maybe prepatch just taught me not to get hit by anything at all hence I just breeze past anything. Might try to replay it on dark mode sometime.
What's Dark Mode?
I am so proud of myself.
Started a new EE playthrough to do Iorveth's quests instead of Roche's this time around and holy shit, I am so skilled at this game on dark mode. I don't even need potions or greases for my swords. I pretty much naturally am so good at counter attacking and evading and parrying that even without any swordsmanship unlocks I still pretty much destroy anybody/anything without effort it seems. I love it.
What's Dark Mode?
Ultra Hard difficulty, I believe, with extra items.
What's Dark Mode?
After the challenging difficulties there's Dark Mode and one above that called Insanity or something like that.
Insanity removes your saves after death but there's no real perks to playing it other than cold-blooded bragging rights.
Dark Mode is the next most difficult setting: enemies pretty much rip you to shreds in two-three hits and you really have to play like the White Wolf and think like his combat style to really get the upper hand which is great. On top of that, you get the ability to create three different Dark Armor/weapon combos that are cursed so wearing individual pieces give you drawbacks and wearing the whole suit combo gives you bonuses. The biggest thing about it is the unlockable equipment you get mentioned above but otherwise it's just the hardest difficulty with the ability to save.
Dark mode feels slightly easier than hard for me. You may die quicker but you also do more damage to enemies. On hard, nekkers died in about 4-6 hits whereas in dark mode I can kill them in 2-3.
I don't believe the damage to enemies has been modified at all. You're just generally weaker and using, say, whetstones do incredible amounts of additional damage. They say 20% more damage but I have a hard time believing that. It's more like 60%
Been playing through for the first time lately, and just finished fighting [sp]Letho[/sp]. I can easily say that this is becoming a favorite game of mine. Making choices, and seeing things change because of them is awesome, and unlike most games, it actually feels like I'm making an impact.
For people who didn't pursue the same path as myself though, what happens when you [sp]abandon the Kingslayer for Triss[/sp]?
After my 5th play through, and first enhanced edition, Witcher 3 please. There wasn't as much new stuff that I noticed, really it was only one new place. I did Iorveth's path though, that was already more solid than Roche's. We'll have to play again to find out.
