ok so I said fuck it to Quen and just mashed spacebar instead. When I got him with a Yrden i'd drop another then go at him. Yrden is a fucking life saver i would have never left that stage without it.
I agree, Yrden is probably THE most useful sign. Stronger opponents (or weak ones at higher difficulty) just seem to insta-drain your Quen.
Nobody told me just how good the psychoactive bomb is (forget the name).
Seriously by far the most dangerous thing in this game is dealing with crowds, especially where theres little to no movement. The psychoactive bomb on the otherhand basically completely eliminates crowd control issues, as it pretty much insta-casts an Axii on everyone hit by the bomb. So damn good. It's useless against non-crowd type enemies, but seeing as I die so easily to crowds more often to duels, its probably the most useful bomb in the game for me.
that sounds legit, I need to check out more bombs, throwing, and oil. Last playthrough I stuck with some basic stuff but that seems silly with all the different configurations. Has anyone tried Insane difficulty? I'm on Dark and it seems to be a good level of difficulty. I mean the Letho fight didn't feel like your average video game fight. He was pulling moves at random and I was all pissed like "MAN HOW DARE HE NOT HAVE A PREDICTABLE PATTERN" then I was like wait that's cool.
Though He does have a slight pattern but he's caught me off guard by doing a move when he usually doesn't or just doesn't do it so I dodge away when I could have kept going.
I think Insane has the same difficulty settings as Dark, just with permadeath.
Ok, i'm having trouble getting past the final battle in Vergen. I get Zoltan to close the gate, Henselt surrenders, and then the game crashes. Anyone know how to fix it? I dunno if skipping the cutscene's gonna work, since it didn't work the last coupla times I trapped Henselt's army.
I constantly get hit directly after cutscenes, does anyone else? Just now I actually died directly after one because he got me in the back before I could dive away.
Over the past few days I've been playing the first Witcher (again). Today when I woke up and started my computer, steam started updating it with 15gb. Did this happen for anyone else?

Yep, didn't let it happen though and it appears to have disappeared now. Not sure what it was but there's no update log, probably just a glitch.
it downloaded about 100-200mb before completing
oh my fuuuck, how did they not notice the long drawn out cutscenes infront of difficult fights? I don't mind redoing shit but when I have to skip through long ass cutscenes each time I reload it gets annoying fast. And then theres a 10 second unskippable "hey look this is cool right" scene that totally isn't cool. How hard would it have been to put a savepoint after these, christ. I'm refering mainly to the spectre battle.
Did you try clicking with the right mouse button? I can skip any cutscene with that.

You CAN skip them you know. Left-click skips lines, right-click skips entire cutscenes.

Oh come on, few clicks isn't that bad. I was actually super happy that everything was skippable, some games keep having mandatory cutscenes that you just have sit through numerous times. Which part exactly irritates you so much?
dying multiple times on a difficult part and each time having to skip through a scene I've already watched, then forced to watch them pan out from where i'm suppose to go or watch selkirk finish a fight. There should be a save after something like that, there's really no excuse.
Still got that problem, my settings are the lowest possible, and I still can't get past the part where Henselt surrenders; it simply crashes to desktop with no error message. Does anyone have a solution?
I'm streaming this right now in super horrible quality! I'm currently in chapter 2, going Roche's path. Come watch if you want!

I've done both have to say I prefer Iorveth's just because racial equality is cool. Just finished the game on Dark, that fucking dragon battle was intense as fuck. I couldn't tell if I was hurting it on the rooftop likely because of my shit skill choices/equipment.
Can't wait for the 3rd.

Also with the final decision with Letho [sp]I let him go, simply because he never really did me wrong. And was apparently pretty helpful behind the scenes.[/sp]

I went with Iorveth in my first playthrough too. I'm not sure if I like Roche's path better though, I'll see.
I ended up using Igni much more, since it has the same flinch effect on many enemies as Aard and deals superior damage.
Aard is best used in the beginning against shielded opponents in my opinion. If you catch them, or most enemies, in the middle of an attack animation, and you hit them with an Aard, they will stumble back far, and shielded enemies will get into a kneeling position on the ground as they try to recover. This gives a great chance to get around and attack them from behind, which sends them to the ground for a heavy thrashing, where they take a lot of damage. The same effect can be achieved by using Aard on a shielded enemy twice in a row, at the cost of the extra vigor. Aard also allows for a stronger combo follow-up.
Igni, on the other hand, is more like a guard piercer. It causes small damage, but most enemies can't defend against it, even with shields, and it puts them into a more shallow stumble than Aard. I find this ability to be great against enemies who parry your blows but do not have as strong of defenses as shields, such as the Elven Scoia'tael. It causes you to pierce their parry, having nothing to block it with, and follow up with an attack or two before they raise their guard again. It's also pretty good for interrupting a combo as well.
So the major differences are that Aard has a great stumble effect that allows you to follow up with a heavy combo, but doesn't do any damage, while Igni deals damage that pierces defenses, but the enemy can recover much more quickly, since it lacks stumble capabilities.
I'd like to know if Yrden is electrical, just like Quen when upgraded. I haven't tried using it in the rain yet, but it looks pretty sparky to me.
Axii has to be my least used sign. Super useful, but the animation is super long :/ Still on my first playthrough so I haven't even checked if you can upgrade its speed yet. I'm trying to not use Quen as often, just because I don't like how you don't recover vigor with it on, and most fights become much easier with Quen being activated (Though I still try to use it when I'm in super cramped quarters, like where you first encounter wraiths)
What's the maximum amount of vigor I can get? I'm thinking of investing heavily into signs for this run.
You can have 8 vigors if you have the right upgrades, Armor of Ysgith and Forgotten Vran Sword equipped. Plus even 9 if you drink that one potion that adds +1 vigor.
I'm considering buying the enhanced edition, I have played the vanilla game beforehand, and i'm wondering what the difference is between the old and the enhanced editions??
If you have the normal version already, you can upgrade to enhanced edition for free.
Not sure if this is the case, but if you already own Witcher 2 you can upgrade to EE for free. The main difference is they added a lot of small details and 2 larger quests. And a lot of cinematics to complete the narrative.

I'm in Chapter 3 of Roche's path, late game spoilers.
[sp]The choice is between saving Anais or Triss, fucking over either the Sorcerors or Temeria, tough choice. I'm gonna do another playthrough on Iorveth's path afterwards so my main question is what are the choices there? I think it's either save Triss again or go after Philippa Eilhart, is the Triss situation the same and what does Eilhart's path offer?[/sp]

[sp]Triss choice is completely same, the only difference is how you acquire Shilard and get to the camp. If you go after Phillipa you can break the spell she casted on Saskia and free the dragon from Phillipa's will.[/sp]

[sp]So it's a choice between Roche or Triss, and then Saskia or Triss, fuck.
How badly to the mages get fucked up if you don't go with Triss?[/sp]
