The super-extended walking, the relatively poor feeling combat and a lack of attachment to my character or other characters in the game (especially in Skyrim).
But I love the vast open world providing its not as uninteresting and dull as The Elder Scrolls world, and I love the idea of there being an economy in-game.
The enviroments in TW2 are somewhat enclosed and not massive-freeroam-sandboxes like in Skyrim. Generally it only takes a minute to get to where you need to be whenever you start a quest, and you won't be flooded with them.
The combat system will suit your taste perfectly, I think. It's fast-paced and highly skill-based, almost twitchy. In other words, your own skill and reflexes will matter more than your level and equipment. Fighting is very fluid and rather than just mashing attack you'll find yourself developing a strategy and pace that matches the flow (hard to explain). Combat is overall very challenging, but once you get into it every encounter is a pleasure.
TW2 has fewer characters and, in my subjective opinion, much much better writing than Skyrim and each character is generally drawn up in greater detail. In combination with having fewer characters, a character glossary screen that expands with information about characters you've met, and a protagonist with a voice and actual personality of his own, it really helps making characters feel authentic.

It made sense in the beginning.
I didn't say it made no sense. Just that there was no point to it. You could cut it from the game and you wouldn't miss anything crucial.

Awesome, shall pick it up in the Summer Sales. Thanks!
Massive bump for Mod tools hype!
Gamers eager to design and play their own adventures for Geralt the Witcher will soon be in luck. The developer announced today that it will present its Witcher 2 modding tools--called the REDkit--at Gamescom next week in Cologne, Germany.
What kinds of worlds will gamers create with the REDkit?
Gamescom is open to the public, but CD Projekt Red's REDkit presentation will only be open to members of the press. No mention was made concerning when the REDkit will be made available to the public, but CD Projekt Red said it will share more information next week.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is CD Projekt Red's latest body of work. It released in May 2011 for the PC to a warm critical reception, before later arriving on the Xbox 360. The Polish studio is currently at work on a Cyberpunk role-playing game, as well as a potentially related "mature dark fantasy" game.
[sp]The Grandmaster is Alvin, right?[/sp]
Hey, sorry to interrupt your game related discussions, but The Witcher 2 actually looks pretty good. I don't usually like that many RPG's that seem to be popular mind you (I didn't like Skyrim or Gothic, I found Oblivion to be dull too), and I do like a good bit of combat. Would I like The Witcher 2?
If you like Mass Effect, you'll love The Witcher games.
I just beat The Witcher 2 last night and it was amazing! [sp]I didn't kill Letho because there was really no reason to. I killed Síle though - watched that bitch blow up! She's the one who caused it all any way.[/sp]
Anybody experiencing mouse lag? I played through this once on a shitty computer and it wasn't too bad but now that i've got a monster computer, i can play this at 60fps on high settings but i'm getting lots of mouse lag.
It's very likely that in February they announce something about Witcher 3.
In W2 they avoided making your previous actions from W1 having big impact with new settings and plot. Now we all expect W3 will start where W2 ended. Some of our decisions might have huge consequences in the war with Nilfgaard and I really hope they succeed where ME3 failed. I thought Iorveth's and Roche's different paths where a nice narrative feature.
I can't convince myself to believe that choices will have a greater impact on the plot in TW3 than the choices had in TW2. It was already pretty extreme in that aspect; the entirety of Act 2 (which equated a significant number of gameplay hours) was completely different depending on your choice. It seems to be going beyond that, I.E taking both TW2-choices as well as different ending branches into consideration, would be like making several different games, which obviously won't happen. Maybe they'll have two different final acts (endings), that'd be nice I guess.
I'm curious to see if what we did with [sp]The Grandmaster at the end[/sp] will have any kind of affect on TW3.
Also, there should be an option to side with Nilfgaard. Yeah, it's a bad idea, but the option should still be there.
Well, I won't mind it that much if they lower the impact of our decisions as long as the story makes up for it. But it's truth that during Roche's path many kings or leaders can die [sp](Foltest, Stannis, Henselt and Saskia)[/sp].
There was an update for Witcher 2, mainly for the RedKit beta.

It’s been a while since you’ve heard about the REDkit beta. Well, the beta program is still in full effect with participants sending us loads of awesome content every day. We would like to share it with you on the go, but you’re going to have to wait a little longer to see the outcomes of their work. It shouldn’t be too long however, so stay tuned for more info. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for official announcements as well. Oh, and if you are wondering what’s that in that picture above – well, we’ll leave it for your imagination to answer. :)
I'm mostly interested in the "participants sending us loads of awesome content every day". If they add some cool armors, swords, maybe even quests from the community I'll go crazy.
And of course the picture, some say CGI trailer, I think it's going to be some sword replica you can buy.

Good to see we're at the point when we honestly can't tell if something is CG or real life.
i'm betting it's a CGI video though.
A collectible Witcher sword would be absolutely mind boggling though. I'd kill to have it for my collection

I'm hoping that the Witcher 3 takes our choices in the Witcher 1 more into account than the Witcher 2. While the inter-game choices of the Witcher 2 were pretty neat, particularly the whole of Act 2, the intra-game consequences were a bit lacking. For example, killing [sp]Siegfried[/sp] in the Witcher 1 doesn't particularly change much in Act 3 of the Witcher 2 other than some dialogue options. If he ends up being [sp]The grandmaster[/sp] if you let him live, he should have some sway in world politics (especially if the Witcher 3 has war with Nilfgaard). Or the fact that even if you side with Shani, she's just completely absent from the second game.
Of course there's difficulties trying to account for every choice in two games, so I don't expect every detail to be there, but if the major choices [sp]scoia'tel v. Order, Roche v. Iorveth, killing the Kingslayer, "killing" the King of the Wild Hunt, etc.[/sp] in the two games had major consequences on the third it'd be cool
So I found out the image is a picture of a real item.
just got the witcher 2 on holiday sale by a friend( thanks skellyhell)
holy shit the game is so AMAZING
except when my framerate drops to 15 fps and combat gets unresponsive
I think the third game could well be set in Nilfguard that way your actions from 2 will not have much bearing on what happens during 3 other than what you hear is happening.

Yeah, that's the easy way out but I wouldn't mind a little bit more changes depending on your choices, you can fuck up the north a lot in W2.
So I played the first game and got about 5-6 hours in before I had to stop. I just couldnt stand the combat. It was a shame too, because I was actually genuinely interested in Geralt as a character. So I was wondering, is the combat in the second game similar or is it different?

The combat in the second is way, way better. And not weirdly click-rhythm based; in fact it's not similar in the slightest. I'd refrain from playing the rest of the first until you've played the second. Sadly, you'll miss some things in the second, and you won't get to play with your saves' choices (what you do in the first affects the second), but the gameplay of the first is kinda bad yeah. You'll be able to care more about what's going on in the first after you've played the second.

the only thing that comes over from the first game to the second game is like 2-3 additional dialogue prompts throughout the game and you starting with a better witcher's sword. it's not really worth the first playthrough
witcher 2 is absolutely amazing though and i'd reccomend it. it's just hard to get in to at first because the game throws a bajillion names and places at you and you're like WHO WHAT WHEN WHAT and it makes no sense until you play through the beginning a few times.

Yeah, I've replayed the prologue atleast 10 times, and only now am I getting some of the double meanings and references. Does a great job of making a world that doesn't revolve around the player.

I'll definitely give it a looksie then
the witcher plays out like a very good fantasy book that jumps right into story and doesnt tell you what any of what's happening means until you infer it halfway through
unlike most rpg's that play out like easy-to-figure-out Fantasy 4 Kids movies or some shit that hold your hand and let you know ahead of time everything that's going on around you
My roommate is a big Witcher fan and I used to piss him off by trying to remain neutral in TW2.
"Dude you can't afford to do that anymore the old Witcher system is dying aaaaah"
"But Witchers are neutral."
"IT'S A BAD IDEA FUCK YOU"
It elicited that special kind of rage you only get by messing with someone's pre concieved notions about a beloved fantasy series :v:
