Just did a test; Torgue weapons deal double damage on a direct hit, and the displayed damage as splash damage. This is all multiplied when you add stat bonuses.
All manufacturers and weapon types deal different crit damage FYI (in addition to stats stated in the description) ; Jakobs deals the most from what I've seen.
I use a level 20-something quad barrel torgue shotgun
at level 45

holy crap, I thought it just meant it did splash damage. That explains why torgue shotguns are so awesome at close range.

Have you taken the time to learn how to compensate for their speed? I've taken out Rakk, Surveyors, and thrown objects with one shot and Buzzers get turned into scrap metal easily.
