I didn't know stalker had a story.
Stalker games would be great if the combat wasn't total shit. All the guns are inaccurate and weak as all fuck.
Plus, it follows stupid RPG development rules. IE You find this gun early, so its weak and generally bad, this other gun you find late so its really powerful. Regardless of how the actual guns perform.
STALKER games have great combat. Stay in cover, don't move while you shoot, use the sights, and aim for the head. Anyway, even if you consider the guns weak or inaccurate you can always tweak them yourself.

i think people who talk like him dont know how to play it right. i felt the same exact way when I first started. then I stopped. But after I picked it back up again and learned how to play it correctly everything worked fine.
stalker complete 2009. how would one go about installing it on the steam version? i tried the "extract your DB files to Gamedata folder" but this just crashed the game. although this was done while attempting to install a mod that may be outdated.

The online is 100%, entirely, bland. STALKER is a single player game.
The multiplayer in SHoC sucked, but in CS and CoP it's fun to play with a bunch of friends.
So here is my experience:
So there it sat on my computers harddrive. For quite a while. Every time I would think about playing it I would remember how "un-fun" it was to wobble around with very little health having to run like a scared school girl away from any enemies. (all my guns sucked at the time) So i decided to give it one more try. I played it every spare moment for a week after that. I felt like a king. I could now shoot from afar with my scoped rifle and started this process: Take small mission> kick ass> collect money for mission> buy better gun + a truck load of ammo> kick more ass repeat. I took down a whole base while carrying a sniper rifle, 2 machine guns, a pistol, and a shot gun. Taking that base out was the most fun experience Ive ever had on a PC game. So yes. get it. But PLEASE play it in order. Start with SoC.
oh man, i LOVE it when a game allows you to do that, HELL YEAH. mostly though, it's sheer dumb luck and you doing something awesome that brings about these epic moments. i've had at least one in each of my games, and let me tell you. such a moment is worth as much as 500 bucks to me.
it's been so long since i've had such a moment. i'm revelling in yours. although headshotting in stalker makes everything easier. just started stalker 1 today, got clear sky and if this is kept up, i'll be getting CoP this summer.

Don't get 2009, it totally ruins the atmosphere, adds too much green grass, makes everyone speak Ukranian so you can't understand them outside of direct conversation and really doesn't add anything that OL 2.2 with Arsenal has.
You know you want this in a game :
People in zone suits with pistols looking like CIA agents or something

It actually has a pretty good story, but the big picture of Stalker is what makes it interesting.
While the guns in vanilla are generally inaccurate, most problems can be solved by using the ironsights.
Deeper in the zone = better stalkers = more money = better gear.
And if you somehow dont like it, at least this one good thing will come out of it.
You will know how to "Get out of here, S.T.A.L.K.E.R."
