It's sortof involved to join, but no, you don't need to be active, though you do need to sign up on the forum and take an entrance exam (trust me it's not bad). It's worthwhile though, the fleet is great.
I don't know but I'd like to see the Kazon in the next season.

Entrance exam takes 2 minutes without even studying anything and you can get 92% of it right which is good enough.
If you're not active all you've got to do is come back at the start of each month and post in the 'roll-call' thread so they don't remove you for being inactive.

So, some guy got mad at my money-making technique and decided to spread slander about me throughout the zones, so now whenever I try to sell my (slightly) overpriced things people say "don't trust Luke, he's a well-known con artist".
Normally I wouldn't be mad, but this guy just takes it too far. He even suggested I "buy things from my local wal-mart and sells them at a higher price outside of the store". There's a difference, being that one is illegal.

Indeed - we've tried to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved. You can miss up to three Roll Calls (aka three months of inactivity) before you get removed. Reminders are sent in-game and out-of-game, so it's pretty difficult to forget that it's open. :)

I'm taking a sabbatical from the game until the Vesta drops. Got a little bored with it, as the reddit fleet's ground to a halt with progress due to the sheer volume of stuff and members instantly filling the slots.
The Vesta according to a recent interview will drop day one with Season 7, no date on that, just this year.
I'll probably drop in now and then, but Season 7 hits and I'm back in a second.
Man, this box is cool, I hate to admit.
