have they changed how housing works? i built a two level house but the merchant wont go into his assigned room at night and just keeps opening the doors at ground level

NPCs can't jump, just leave him for a few minutes and he will teleport in his house when you are not looking.

Are you colorblind? Because that looks nothing like sand. They're clearly snow blocks, it also helps that snow is falling.
Looked like pearlsand to me. I admittedly haven't played in awhile though.
you can see the snow falling. snow only falls when there are snow blocks around

What the fuck do I do with all these altars?
You can craft special items there to summon bosses, and once you enter hardmode you can destroy them to Bless your world with new ores.
I got tired of building npc towns above ground, so I built one deep underground instead.

Doesn't chaos elementals spawn in your house? Or is that coped with by the reduced enemy spawn rate when NPCs are living in houses.
Also, do bunnies spawn down there? :v:
I haven't seen a single enemy appear in the town so I assume that they don't spawn near placed walls.
As soon as I leave the town area enemies are everywhere.
Of course I always have to make sure a giant worm doesn't follow me home.
I think they should make hearts alot harder to get so you had to work for them. It would slow the pace of the game a bit. I usually have full hp before I have enough for gold armor + pickaxe. I usually skip gold and go right for shadow for that reason.
Maybe make an npc grant you a heart after you achieve certain goals. Normal stuff like beating bosses etc

I'm doing a similar thing; i'm building my base inside a mountain.
Also we really should have reinforced Iron Doors, since Wooden Doors are so easy for Goblins and bloodthirsty zombies to smash...
Also also, Crystal Hearts should probably have a role in crafting, since once you hit 400 HP they're essentially useless except for giving to weaker players. Maybe they could be used for giving NPCs more health, which'd be handy if Re-Logic ever does a major overhaul of NPCs and gives them the ability to fight enemies and accompany you as a Companion of sorts; which they objectively should do, no doubting that.
Concerning the NPC Overhaul concept, perhaps giving your allies Beds would ensure that they could genuinely respawn if killed like the players, rather than having another take their place. If you could invest resources (Crystal Hearts and Mana Stars) and loot (good weapons, armour and spells) in your allies, you'd logically want them to stick around, 'cause nothing would be more frustrating than losing your high-powered Dryad with Level 10 Gaiathorn to a bunch of undead plebs...
They should also be able to use Grappling Hooks if they have them, since being stuck down a hole would be a tragic end.

I usually max it out while I'm gathering ore and stuff to kill the easy bosses with. They're pretty damn common.
I think that instead of Heart Crystals there should be a system like Mana Stars. Collect 5 Heart Shards to make one Heart Crystal. (Even if they're pretty common, I'd think you'd have a hell of a time finding enough HS in caves to get 400 health)
