I really hope the new content arrives on the PC, even if it is a DLC.
Honestly, if it would be an appropiate size, as in three times as big as 1.1, i'd happily buy it.
What do you mean gave us a few things then ran? The company does not have to give you free content after release, the only updates that they should release are bugfixes. Free content after release is a gift, not a requirement.
The problems is that games that have come out in the past couple of years after release either get a lot of free content (tf2,gotham city impostors, minecraft etc) or get paid dlc (skyrim , me3 etc etc). So its kind of expected to get new content after release , and if the devs don't make new content entitled people start bithching even thought as you said free content after release is a gift.
"know what? this basically proves Red as a money grubbing whore. first you say you want to abandon the project, because you felt it was UNFINISHED. and NOW you want us to buy the shit again? two words: FUCK THAT! and NO i'm not buying Starbound either..." - Ricky Gervais "wtf are u doing terraria guys? 99% of us are pc gamers who want fucking new content cause we payed money for the game...dont understand this shit srsly.." - Yannick "I HOPE YOUR CONSOLES CATCH FIRE AS SOON AS YOU PUT TERRARIA IN!" - Anemicni Oliver "so... the big update is we have to buy it again, probably for more money, on a console the game wouldn't even feel comfortable on? great. i lost sleep over nothing." - Adam "Fuck this shit, i bought it on Comp just like i did Minecraft .... and i bet you wont give me anything for having it on comp will you?" - Nathan "consoles are dieing who cares??? this is a total failure" - Tobias "HAHAHAHA consoles." - Rowen "OH God ! You are copying this Idea from Mojang. -.- First they make a Xbox version and then you copy instead of satisfy the PC Gamers -.-" - Marco "Wow. Seriously? You abandon the PC game to release THIS. This confirms my suspicion that you guys are just in it for the money now." - Courtney "Welp. Promises constant updates for PC = Quits after one impressive update, but gives new content to console fanboys. - The Terraria Story." - Nicholas "WHY?! There are so many people expecting something for Terraria on the PC and you come to me with such news?! If Terraria abandoned for a while, and come back with him to Console, AT LEAST AN UPDATE ON THE Terraria PC MUST HAVE! There are so many people wanting to play new content (no mods), and you want to launch the console in Terraria? They did very, very wrong." - Henrique "And now I can stop caring about this game. Thanks for ignoring the PC guys who made the game a success in the first place." - Danny "Let me guess...gonna have to purchase it AGAIN for the console?..." - Matt (Who the fuck is forcing these people to buy multiple copies? - Jim) "To Terraria developers, STOP TROLLING YOUR PC TERRARIA FANS!!!! Planning something big, now playstation and xbox, all the 1.6 MILLION people who play it on pc want to know is. Are you letting it die? Or are you going to torture it to death?" - Logan "this is some fucking shit why the fuck would you do that !!" - Gary "what i want to know is do i have to pay for the game again on my ps3 or do i get a special code to get it free" - Einar "Money hungry mother fuckers. Let a game die, and when you need a jump in profits, just simply port it." - Michael "Terraria absolutely went to SHIT. Honestly, we don't need fucking console crap. Terraria was good when everything was constantly getting updated. By all means, throw your fucking game down a well." - Bryce "Today, something died inside of me, something, that may never be given back. Redigit, I'm sorry, but I'm better off with Starbound. May the best of lucks be with you." - Lok "No fucking way!You only succeeded thanks to us PC gamer's that bought Terraria and not the console gamers. Not that i want to be a PC fanboy but really it shouldn't be released on consoles at allt. For instance why not allowing some other developer work on Terraria instead of putting it on consoles instead of focusing on "reviving" the game instead?" - David "And so my relatively good day was obliterated from existence." - David "Well thats a good way to fuck your existing consumers on the pc version, you stop making updates and shit. Then you reveal a 'Amazing pile of dump' For crappy consoles. How amazing!" - Josh
http://www.destructoid.com/terraria-coming-to-xbla-psn-pc-users-pissed-234763.phtml#ext lol
Terraria died really quickly for me, honestly can't really care about the new content with Starbound on the way. Too bad, had potential had he kept adding stuff (he's said he's stopping work on Terraria, so I doubt this will bring other than just console version and one content pack).
http://www.destructoid.com/terraria-coming-to-xbla-psn-pc-users-pissed-234763.phtml#ext lol
God, no wonder Red tried to ditch terraria, most of the fanbase is whiny as shit. "wah i didn't get free updates for life for this $5 game" "FUCKING CONSOLE PEASANTS RUINING EVERYTHING!!! >:((((("
Well, thing is that fans are, by default, brain-damaged. If you're a fan, essentially a fanatic, that's a bad thing, but if you just like the game with a reasonable mind and the ability to criticize effectively, that is ok. Personally I haven't played Terraria for a long time, so it's not exactly that much of a loss to me if the new content doesn't end up on PC, but it'd still be a good thing if it did, and it actually makes sense to do that. Regardless I got more than my money's worth from Terraria, and i'm sure i'll get more than my money's worth from Starbound; any extra stuff is just icing on the cake.
I easily got my money's worth out of Terraria but I admit I don't really see where they were going with advertising a console port to their PC fans. That just sounds like begging for a PR disaster.
Still does not change the fact, they took our money, gave us a few things and then ran, then came back only to milk more money out of people.
Wait, they took your money? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we give them our money, and later they gave us a huge update for free?
Reading through those comments, fuck me they're overreacting. Sure I was disappointed but I'm not raging as much as that. We paid a tiny amount for a game that was pretty small, then it got massive with the content updates and the sexy as shit lighting update. I really don't see why all those people are being such twats, even the devs know that this game died a while back.
Holy fuck people are entitled... The game cost next to nothing, with loads of content, and they even had several updates that added loads of new content, for free, and still people say they "Ran away from the game after they took our money"
Regardless we all view it differently to how they went with it. But personally over the years. Games only started releasing DLC as a means for more money, and it's ridiculous in some cases where that DLC should have been in the game in the first place, others are DLC that is good, but should not be paid for unless it's what used to be called an expansion pack. I've always refused to ever buy DLC. I am glad Terraria gave us things for free, and that's the way it SHOULD be. If they wanted future stability, they should have charged a little extra for the base game. But it still does not excuse that they just dropped us off and forgot about us. Only to come back with some shitty console port just cause they want more money.
Kind of a sense of entitlement; something that should honestly be bred out of modern society along with investors and moneylenders.

To be honest, the update for Terraria that added endgame after hell is DLC-worthy, as it adds so incredibly much to the game, but they were nice, and decided to release it for free. DLC in a game mostly mean the developers continued working on the game after it was released, and they kinda want to be paid for working on the game after it was released as well. DLC is not necessarily a bad thing, but mainstream DLC, with day1 DLC and DLC on the disk, has given it a bad reputation. Basically, in the good cases, you can either choose to pay for more content (DLC), or not get any new content at all, since they dont have any reason to work on it without being paid. Game developers need food to. They also didnt "Drop us of and forgot about us", they came back repeatedly with new content updates, some big enough that they are pay-worthy, and they gave it to us for free. They didnt drop us off, since we got so much stuff we really did not pay for. The game was complete when they released it, and they didnt have to release any content updates, but they did, and they did it for free. [editline]12th September 2012[/editline] Also, the only difference between good DLC and an expansion pack is the name and the means of getting it. Dawnguard for Skyrim is basically an expansion pack, but it is called DLC since it is DownLoadable Content.
Wounder if the terriaria guys (only one now perhaps?) even working on the console port or if the other company do all the work.
Maybe I worded that wrong. I agree on the whole basis of map packs being extremely dumb especially at the price they charge for them. But with Dawnguard, it didn't FEEL like it was worth the £13. Especially as there's some mods made for free that are JUST as good as Dawnguard was. I refer to DLC as paid for content. So really I should refer to it as PFDLC (Paid for Downloadable Content) But still. Terraria was released in May 2011, it's only a year and 4 months since then, and it was what 9-10 months into it that they said they don't want to work on Terraria any-more. I understand your point. I guess it comes down entirely to personal perspective on the matter. Which in this civilised discussion, we can both respect towards one another. I just wished they didn't drop the project, only to come back and hype up all the PC fans, only to let us down to say they are making a Console port. Which is - in my view - a irrefutable attempt to just make more money.
i don't think they even thought it through terraria just CAN'T WORK as a console game, because it's so heavily based on a cursor using the right thumbstick as a cursor would be either too sensitive or too inaccurate, and getting rid of the cursor and replacing it with just aiming would take away the ability to mine behind blocks, which is a huge advantage i just can't see it working
I could see it work with the grid concept someone said earlier in the thread to be honest.
The only thing I would be annoyed about is if the new content for terraria is on the consoles only. I mean, we DID buy this game early, and now a few years down the line, someone paying roughly the same price gets more bang for their buck? And the only way we can get it, is to buy the game a second time? Unless he's just going to add it in as part of a PC game update. If that isn't the case I very much doubt this "New content" will be anything that was comparable to the size of the 1.1 update. and thus not worth adding to the PC, because it doesn't add anything at all really, something like a PSN logo you can stick on a wall.

Controls and such. And how fluid it will all be in the end, I guess time will tell. Still as much as I do bitch and moan about it. In a way I am somewhat glad that companies and taking initiative and are trying to expand and explore new avenues. Just aslong as they don't end up like another EA.
Just read up on the last couple of pages to figure out what the fuss was about, and I can't say I like the fact that they say they're adding new content at all. Especially if it's coming from a third party. Terraria felt like the ultimate complete game to me. Plenty of things to do, stuff to fight, awesome music, and one of the best atmospheres of any game I know. I thought one of the reasons they stopped development was that they didn't want to end up ruining the game for a chunk of their fanbase by eventually releasing an update that broke that mood? I've always had this thought that if Terraria was going to be continued, it should be in a sequel... maybe after Starbound is released or sometime down the road. That would give plenty of room for them to explore any ideas that they had left for development, add features that weren't possible in the first game, and time to think and come up with a new cast of characters and possibly a little more backstory. That would preserve the feel and completeness of the original game, and allow the devs to explore new options with a new game.
Do any of you guys think Terraria had some sort of "epic conclusion"? Wall of Flesh seems like that, but then there's a whole new chapter after it that seems to be more of a continuation; the forces of Light and Dark are let loose and you can now battle the Three Machines. Even after defeating the Three Machines there isn't really a conclusion to this "Chapter 2", nothing to say that you have achieved an "ending". Personally, I still think my "Spider Queen" idea would work; finding an impenetrable tomb in the Dungeon, creating a key made from the remains of the Three Machines, opening the tomb and letting loose the Spider Queen into the world of Terraria, prompting you to embark on a grand quest to finish what the Ancients could not, traveling through the web-wracked world to find and kill the Spider Queen, achieving closure of some sort.
Honestly, I would just love mod tools. I mean, modding terraria would be really, really easy. Fans could literally make their own updates. It's not hard to make a polished mod for such a game. Even just one guy could pull this off, at a price of time though.

Although I'm not entirely sure if the hallow is necessarily a force for "good", or just a force for "light".
Oh it's a force of "Light" alright; stand too close and you'll get BURNED son. Ain't no good or bad in Terraria boy; Hallow's like the Corruption in all but name, sure it looks different but it's essentially the glittery side of the same twisted infectious coin. The fight between Hallow and Corruption's got the Druids scared; there were times before when the Jungles were immune to the Corruption, but now the forces of Light and Dark are loose, Corruption is strong enough to infect Jungle, meaning the Druids have to turn to the Hallow to help turn back the Corruption.
I don't understand why people are so pissed off if the content is console only. Considering the game ended up so late on consoles, it would need extra content for the purchase to feel justifiable, doesn't mean we are in the essential requirement to buy the console version though. If only released on consoles, the new content will most likely only be some new skins or items like a pre-order pack, not some "epic conclusion" to the "story" of the game and if so it would be released on PC later to prevent bitching. I rarely say this, but I actually agree with the message TB has given about this discussion: [Editline]sgsgg[/editline] The Terraria thing gets answered at 07:16
All I ever wanted was teleportation gates :/ Modding tools for the PC would have most likely rejuvenated sales too.
Also, I swear this game is built with XNA... How are they gonna put this on the PS3?
The same way anyone else ever does. With lots of bugs.
Could anyone E-mail them asking about modding tools? Maybe broadening that idea would make them do it. Some idiot-proof chart showing some statistics about sales and modding tools and saying shit like "constant new features n shit!" for the general fandom and they'll be crying for it, probably without actually knowing what they are asking for.
I don't think redgit cares about the fans, I do wish for modding tools, but it does seem unlikely in the near future because he is focusing on consoles or at least the porting part. Also, crying/spamming for something does not accomplish anything, it just makes you seem like a whiny kid.
I don't think Redigit's really been working on things for his fans. I think he just enjoyed working on Terraria, like he enjoyed working on his previous games (SMBX) before his fans started demanding things.
