and so it begins.
If the content he adds for PC is good, I'll probably come back and play to help tide me over til starbound
But the starbound thread needs you to keep it alive :c

Oh don't worry, my obsession over that game would still be there. But I wouldn't mind seeing if Red expands on terraria just a little more
I know this thread isn't exactly a hub of activity anymore, but I was hoping to get some advice from you creative types. A long time ago I found a categorized storage room someone had made that I really liked, so I copied it into my map. Recently some friends have decided to pick up the game again, so I went looking for that map, but both it and wherever I got the copy from are missing, so I tried recreating it from memory. This is the result:

I'll explain each section. The anvil is ingots and ores. Pickaxe is tools. Flower is seeds and plants. Sword is melee weapons. Bow is ranged and projectile weapons. Shield is wearable accessories. Angel, worm, and hornet are hallow, corruption, and jungle drops respectively. Potion is potions (of course). Eye is boss-summoning items and drops. The hooded person is dungeon-specific stuff. Cross is for wiring-related items, the pillar is building materials (walls, platforms, etc.) and the slime is everything else.
My problem is that there are still a lot of things I'm not sure how to categorize. First, I'm not sure where to put 'regular' drops, i.e. from the forest, caverns, and underworld; crafting materials that don't fit into the biome categories already mentioned. Another is explosives. Then there is the distinction between ranged melee weapons, boomerangs, projectiles, magic attacks, and consumable items like shuriken. The last thing I can think of right now is that I don't know where I put things like torches or glowsticks. I'm hesitant to keep adding layers because it's already a bit of a pain to go to the bottom layer to drop off some stone then jump all the way back up. Does anyone have some suggestions for how I might improve this to be able to categorize everything effectively? Are there any of my categories that don't need to exist or can be combined? Any advice would be a great help to me.
I just put everything into chests willy nilly, fuck organizing.

Personally I used to try to store them individually, but I realised, if I put all the chests near each others in the middle of the house, it's close to everything for crafting, and if I don't find my stuff in a chest, I can just drag the mouse a few cm on the side.

This is probably what I'd do if I were playing alone, but as I'm playing with 3 other people, I need a system that everyone can easily learn.

There's a mushroom statue in the game, if you don't mind having another layer.
You could probably use gold chests to give a couple statues specific purposes. For example, the bow statue. Regular chests could be what it holds currently, and gold statues could be the magic items.
I'm also thinking that there really aren't enough unique Dungeon drops to warrant having its own category.
This is what I've come up with:
[img_thumb]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46021174/Facepunch/storagev2.jpg[/img_thumb]
I've added a general magic category to include magic damage weapons and fallen stars and such, a forest/cavern/underworld category as suggested by commandhat, and an ocean category because ocean grinders produce way too much on their own to fit into the general area. The dungeon category has been eliminated, and I changed the misc. statue into a pot. I've also tried to move more frequently needed categories (potions, specifically) closer to the top. Now, I've just spotted a mistake too. I decided to add a category for explosives, but accidentally plonked down the slime statue instead of the bomb statue. Woops

Well he let us down before, who's to say he won't do it again?

While I don't like Redigit for just outright leaving the game, I don't think that's a very fair statement. He did a damn fine job on this game, at least he's acknowledging it and is going to update it again. It might only be for one update, but even if it's a port of the console shit it's a step in the right direction and we should be grateful that he's doing anything at all. He could have just taken our money and ran like many other developers have done.
maybe once he sees how much the update helped the game, he'll start updating it again
maybe
[sup][sup][sup]a man can dream [/sup][/sup][/sup]
He might be saying that he's done with the game.
I don't really see him updating with being so close to finishing Starbound
Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to see some new stuff.
Redigit isn't working on Starbound.

Seriously, if I see another post saying that Terrarias dev's are working on starbound, my scrotum is going to burst.
I don't know what irritates me more, that or people complaining that starbound's devs are going to give up on starbound after launch.

Please forgive me.
I don't follow Starbound very much, or even at all.
I'd like to wait for it to come out to learn about it, so it's still surprising.

New PC update... soon.
New PC update... soon.
How soon is soon? Yesterday, tomorrow, December 32nd?
Terraria hardcore is the most stressful thing ever.
Anyone have a source for good building inspiration/ideas?
Try to survive until you get cobalt, that's my advice.
Then you should stop surviving once you have colbalt?
Also lol, does anyone know how many items were added in the 1.1 update?
Then you should stop surviving once you have colbalt?
Of course, why would you want to live long enough to get mythril or adamantine? That'd just be weird.

A lot.
New blocks and ore, building materials, furniture, weapons, armor and clothers, accesories, special random properties for items, spell items, new npcs, the "hard" mode with the expanding corruption and Hallow biomes, new monsters and bosses, the whole wire sytem, new music and backgrounds and more.
And then there was a christmas update with the snow biome, new blocks, new items, lights, santa npc and the snowmen mobs.
