Gentlemen, I've created an issue on the Issue Tracker requesting the implementation of Red-Orchestra style zoom optics using the engine's Picture-In-Picture capability. That means more realistic ACOGs, ARCOs and sniper scopes, and far better immersion. If you have a bohemia interactive forum account, you can upvote and comment on my issue.

If this reflects something you'd like to see in ArmA 3 when it is released, please consider upvoting.

wouldn't that put people who leave PIP on low or none at a disadvantage?
It would still look better than just the Black, and it would work perfectly with ACOG type sites. Sniper Rifle scopes it may look a bit odd, but Depth of Field it and it's good to go
That I'll agree with, it would look better. Still, the main reason I created that particular tracker was because I'd like to have my delicious unzoomed peripheral vision while I aim down a sniper scope, so I can see if a guy's aiming a pistol at my head two degrees to the left of me.
That, and way too many current-gen FPS games (BF3, Call of Duty) do the whole Zoom and DOF thing for their ACOG scopes.

Well, that's why I've requested it as an optional feature.

I'd prefer just about anything over the Black type. It's been there since Operation Flashpoint, and even Delta Force by Novalogic in the 90's let you keep your un-zoomed peripherals while having the zoomed scope up on screen. Arma 2 had that M4 mod as well, which had actual 3D Acogs that worked fine. It's completely do-able, and with so many months left, I'm sure it can be put in if enough people ask for it. Everyone needs to upvote that shit
how do you translate these numbers into regular FOV settings?
What this guy said, I just want to know how to set it to 110, feels like around 70-90 now.
I'm hoping we can get something a little bit more realistic with both eyes open on the scopes and Iron sights.

is anyone else having problems with the server browser, like certain filters yield no resultsmost of the time, such as hiding passworded servers? kind of need it because otherwise it doesnt show all of the servers

dude how can you play
FOV 80 masterrace

Wait, really?
Link me to the mod or to a video or something if you can find them, I thought ArmA 2's engine couldn't support picture-in-picture.

Even though they cover most of the screen, still look miles better, and zooms in further than the regular zoom you normally get to match the ACOG's original magnification

I don't think it is a picture in picture thing, it is probably just a fully textured scope and using the vanilla 3d ADS function
I'm getting pretty decent frames on high-ultra with low draw distance
can't wait for those nvidia drivers though

Ah, so it's not actual picture-in-picture. Eh. I guess it looks a little bit better. Sort of breaks my immersion, but that's my personal opinion.

I feel uncomfortable playing at anything less than 90, and I'm on a laptop screen.

I believe it's from Ground branch.
You can, I shot the helicopter pilot and killed him in his seat on the FP Server :v:
That's strange. I stole a helicopter from two guys on Wasteland and watched them dump two mags each in vain as I spooled up.

Arma still has the best drivers of any game
Server done for now. Sorry, I was going to say something but the game stopped recognizing my push to talk key and I couldn't even press the button to talk in text (??). I had to use the mouse to exit.
Anyway several things are clear:
It's can be unfun for the server runner. I get really shit FPS as long as I'm hosting the server.
We need our missions preplanned. JerryK's clearing mission is cool, and the official coops are cool... but it's only so much.
We need better communications. If we hijack a channel in profan's TS or something, that'd be great.

I can test hosting on my back up PC, if I just set it all to low it should be fine.
Plus there would be a dummy character for us to just shoot or w/e.

Yeah might be cool. I could only push 10 slots and even then we'd get intermittent lag and I was having FPS issues (whereas normally I get awesome FPS). Tell me how it goes.

I'll play with it and see how many slots I can handle, I'm going to assume around 12 since that's how much I could do in ArmA 2.
I would use a microphone if my desk wasn't in my family's living room

Finally got a chance to sit down and play the alpha. It was absolutely amazing. I was worried at how everyone had said that it was much smoother than ArmA 2, because along with the screenshots and videos it seemed as if it might end up like some kind of shooter like CoD. But it's exactly like in ArmA 2, just....more smooth. You don't have to fight with your mouse and keyboard to get your character to do something anymore, you can just lay down and have fun with it. It's awesome in every respect except for one....
My terrain looks like the surface of Mars. From space. It's big and blotchy and looks damp, and so does my gun. So does everything. I was forced to do this. My computer simply is not powerful enough to run this game. So I turned everything that I could disable off, and turned every other option to its extreme low, but it's still laggy as all fuck.
Time to take out another loan....

I just crashed.
woops
can we set up a constant password for all facepunch servers? So any fp'er can join if fp is in the title?
dicksdicks is nice
I just made a mission with two other friends where everyone started at a corner of the town as a civillian. Each person had a basic weapon box and also the ordnance box for like trip wires. The objective was to kill the other two people in the town. The catch is, there were like 100 other civillians with the exact same model and EVERYONE looked the same. Pretty much you had the option of taking a pistol and hiding it or having an assault weapon and outgunning everyone but being obvious.
