(you're ignorant if you aren't buying it because of that)
lol
I bought it, downloaded the Alpha - it performs pretty weirdly. I've only tried a wasteland server so far and that ran at about 40fps on med-high with no AA, but the editor works at a higher FPS. Weird.
Has Arma 3 the option to have non-toggle ironsights, in other words: hold a key instead, now? It's pretty much the only thing still keeping me from purchasing it.
Your hand would get fatigued very quickly. When I used to play Arma 2 as a group, most of my engagements were looking down my sights. If I had to hold onto right mouse for upwards of 5 minutes during those firefights my hand would've severely cramped.
Non-toggle ironsights wouldn't work at all in Arma, unless you like to be holding down the right mouse button for minutes non stop.
My problem with it is that it fucks with my mind that is used to press down a key to go into and release a key to go out of a certain state. I'd rather hold a key instead of having to remember if I'm already crouching, proning, ironsighting and whatever else is bound to toggling a key. I guess I play too much fast-paced games. Also, how tough must your keys be if you can't hold them for minutes.. Edit: Maybe I'm falsely assuming that you only have to go into ironsights if you are going to shoot. At least in games like RO2:HoS, I look for enemies first, then go into ironsights, shoot and cover again. Would be nice if you could clarify this to a complete newbie to Arma. Might be the wide-field combatness what renders a comparision with for example Red Orchestra or BF:BC2 useless.
right so, is there a list of all of the guns that are in the alpha? and are there any mods that port over arma 2 stuff or add guns and shit? i want more guns to shoot.
I am late but, http://browser.six-projects.net/cfg_weapons/classlist?utf8=%E2%9C%93&version=67&commit=Change&options[group_by]=weap_type&options[custom_type]=&options[faction]= And how to port stuff.

The RMB serves multiple functions. You will get used to not having to hold down your RMB. If you're not getting the game because it doesn't have this extremely minor feature you want, then that's a silly decision.
Playing around in the editor, I'm sad that I can't kill an enemy and steal all his clothes. (As a civ i can pick up blufor clothes, as a blufor i can only take an opfors helmet , not tried the other ways round yet.) Would be a great way to start a mission.
[T]http://localhostr.com/file/8Sv1XZjtayT5/arma3-2013-03-08-18-05-57-82.png[/T] 17-22 FPS [T]http://localhostr.com/file/t83XMfryURT9/arma3-2013-03-08-18-06-26-31.png[/T] 19-23 FPS [T]http://localhostr.com/file/930/X2NxouL9s9wB/arma3-2013-03-08-18-07-12-24.png[/T] Up to a whooping 27 FPS [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] And that's how fun public multiplayer is.

If yes, you deserve the medal of useful information.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/VIP_26_Stratis.Stratis_.pbo I make vip mission. Edit: Also it's kinda nice how you need somewhat less external scripting now that there's modules for stuff like objectives and diary entries and such. Maybe it's actually easier to just go out of the game and quickly type in the stuff but it's good that they are making it less vague for new editors.
the names are iranian.
All their velcro is blank and the vehicles don't have markings, I think the same is true for BLUFOR. They haven't really given them proper identities in the alpha.

I caved and bought the alpha, might have to skip karate a few times and go without food for a little while, but I have it :D
Waiting till the 15th when I'll be able to buy the alpha is killing me. :v: I demand more media <3
It's a shame multiplayer reduces FPS, I get like over 60fps in singleplayer and 30-50 multiplayer
It's a shame multiplayer reduces FPS, I get like over 60fps in singleplayer and 30-50 multiplayer
I have pretty stable FPS as long as we're not playing in the marina and it's not a mission with 200 AI on it
