I think I recall someone saying that Arma 3 will run about as same as A2 with same detail as A2. It's those extra fancy features that will push the hardware.
...but then again, someone on their forums said that demos were run on GTX570 with 3km view distance and they were getting ~30fps.
This worries me. Greatly. My 460 will probably try to escape before I get a chance to preorder A3.
Without the vehicle variety ArmA II had scenario designers are going to be severely limited with what they can do.
If there's hardly any civilian transportation vehicles, old rugged Ural trucks, 12.7 technicals and whatnot, you can say goodbye to any asymmetrical resistance/guerrilla/insurgency scenarios.
The math is simple. With five factions, and 20+ vehicles, evenly that would divide out to 4-5 vehicles a faction. However, we already know that the two main factions (also the only ones we've actually seen so far) have more than that each. So chances are NATO and Iran are going to get the vast majority of the vehicles and the rest will have few, if any. There's hardly any wiggle room for civilians, so the there's probably not going to be much more than the two or so we've seen already.
Using the mod argument is a copout. Modding for ArmA II has stagnated for quite some time now, and it's only going to get worse with the added complexities of the new game. There's hardly going to be any major mods, especially ones that add vehicles/player models/weapons.
Ordered a TrackIR in anticipation of the Alpha, hopefully support will be implemented, if not then at least during the beta.
TrackIR support has allready been confirmed for the Alpha.

There's over 30 vehicles, and some of those have numerous variants. It's fine

I highly doubt they wouldn't add them, it would be incredibly stupid not to.
I'm not worried about the lack of content because from what the website says, modding is supported and I'm sure we'll see entire maps made/converted, mods remade completely and we'll have TONS of content ready for the actual retail release.
Probably not, I say that because of this screenshot

If we could, surely you'd be able to from there of all places, and none of them have their weapons up. Then again you could just double tap control in Arma 2 and lower your weapon, too, so Who knows
Looks like those guys have UCP, or some solid gray-blue fatigues. Nice to see a camo that isn't multicam

that depends on the willingness of the arma modding community. The artistic part of the modding community seems to be getting less enthusiastic.

What makes you think that?
Have they set out an actual time for when they're releasing it on steam?
I want to know if us Australians and New Zealanders need to wait for the rest of the fucking world or not, and get it on Wednesday or late Tuesday night rather than Tuesday afternoon as it seems that's what usually happens.

This is a bit of a pessimistic (and inaccurate, Arma 2 modding stagnated?! They'll be fine) view, but I agree on the point of there being little wiggle room. I want Arma 3 to be great and awesome and cool and long lasting and all that, but content-wise I worry.
Maybe they will fully document the modding tools this time.
Looks like those guys have UCP, or some solid gray-blue fatigues. Nice to see a camo that isn't multicam
I cannot disagree harder. UCP is the ugliest fucking shit I have ever goddamn seen to the point that I cannot stand playing as the US Army in Operation Arrowhead.
That said some new patterns would be nice :D.
Maan, UCP looks great if it's actually worn in. The problem with the US Army guys in OA was that their cammies were brand new.
It's just the topic of vehicles and variety reminded me about all of this. It's another worry I have for the game. And before any calls me out on it, I know that the game is only ~20-30 years in the future, and that it uses almost exclusively existing designs/prototypes:
The "Moderately futuristic" setting does not bother me much, but I could name a few other settings that I'd find, personally, more interesting. From a gaming point of view, "Future warfare" as the current militaries of the world define it right now, has certain pitfalls in the areas of variety and fun, where the act of fighting has become so much more efficient, precise, and fast. I hope that the future setting pressures modders to create distinctly '80s '90s or 2000s era scenarios/islands/faction packs.
I'd love to see a 1980s mod, integrating all the technology of the time with the features and fluidity of Arma 3. And again, as a lot of people have said, asymmetrical warfare is interesting, I just hope that Arma 3 acknowledges that. But hey, maybe Arma 3 has and as a bonus symmetrical warfare in the future is more interesting than I think. There aren't any realistic games that attempt what Arma 3 is attempting. We'll see.
I don't think BIS is going to go back on the cold war because of OFP.
If they did it would be cool to see it in a European setting. Like West Germany.

I wouldn't wear UCP myself, it is just that I am sick of seeing every US soldier wearing Multicam. I wanna see some Marines in their awesome Marpat woodland. I want M81 woodland to make a come back. I want solid color fatigues (Black, tan, green, gray).
If this is going to be approx. 30 years in the future, where the FUCK is my exoskeleton?

Seriously, having these for arma 3 would be pretty cool. Maybe in very short supplies for high tier nato troops.
They're not designed to give you super speed or anything, they just let the average person lift a lot more and carry it much further than normal. These types of things are already becoming more and more available, such as this one here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_Assistive_Limb

You have unrealistic expectations of the near future, also it's closer to 20 years in the future not 30.
Arma 2 with Operation arrowhead only has 50 vehicles all together.
I think people might be freaking out just a bit.

No, you're thinking too far ahead. Such technologies would bring about a doctrine change that'd make war alien to us in the current day.
