I was about to donate, but stopped because I was wondering what would happen if the game is never finished and I don't receive my beta and preorder? Would I be compensated for that? I may sound like a dick because it's a donation but I'll be buying this when it nears release anyway and I figured I'd may as well by it now if it supports the team. Not keen on giving it to something that might fail though, as I don't have money to spend like that.
you most likely will be, after the switch to UDK they refunded any donation made by a disgruntled Linux user who was mad the the drop of Linux support and wanted their money back.
Ashton is happy to refund money for any donors who aren't satisfied with the outcome such as the Linux users whom Makol referred to. I'm fairly sure that this game will be finished though as I can't see them coming this far and switching to UDK only to drop the project completely. I have faith that it'll be finished soon and are hopefully looking at an early to mid 2011 release. [editline]11:05PM[/editline] Although he won't refund you if you simply "don't like" the final product. That's a stupid reason to ask for a refund and I really hope no one does that. [editline]11:34PM[/editline] Also, here's a recent interview with EVGA and the producer of Primal Carnage, Ashton Anderson: It's an interview mostly on the technical aspects such as the engine and PhysX. Source
Primal Carnage is an upcoming first person shooter based on Unreal Engine 3 technology, combining lush jungle environments and roaring dinosaurs. EVGA Gaming chats it up with the Producer and Lead Designer, Ashton Andersen. Q. It recently made news that you are switching game engines from Unigine to Unreal Engine, what is the primary reason for the switch? A.We felt like a switch to the UDK would benefit us for a number of reasons. Being a non-funded team, we’re constantly looking to bring on new people and the fact that the knowledge base for the engine is massive is definitely a huge drawcard. Since switching, we’ve found that we can spend far more time actually ‘making the game’ which has significantly increased the speed at which we’re progressing. The lighting solutions, shaders and post-processing all add to the graphical style that we want to achieve with Primal Carnage as well and since the UDK is supported across multiple platforms, integrated with Steam, and just an all round great piece of software. It’s pretty easy to see why we made the switch. However we do thank Unigine for given us the chance to use their engine and I know their engine will do great things when it comes to DX11. Q. Are you using a 3rd party Physics engine? If so which one? A. NVidia’s PhysX is integrated into the UDK and it’s something that we’ll be looking to take full advantage of. Speedtree also integrates well with PhysX so we could possibly be seeing rampaging dinosaurs tearing down trees! Destructible environments are also possible too but it’s important to make sure these things don’t affect the gameplay negatively. Q. What DirectX version is the game designed primarily around and which versions will be supported? A. DirectX 10 is our goal for a number of reasons but we’ll also be supporting DirectX 9 as well. The graphical power of DirectX 10 with features like soft shadows and occlusion mapping will really help to sell the look of our environments. Above all, we want to make Primal Carnage available to the most people possible and by aiming for DirectX 10 we’ll be able to make that happen Q. Finally, when is the release date for the game? A. Ultimately, we’re hoping to start our closed Beta by the end of the year. We wish to thank Ashton Andersen for his time! I hope you are able to smash trees as a T-rex since it has PhysX.
Dinosaurs, Humans, and Guns? Oh my!
Awesome, more content. Is the beta out yet?
not yet but it should be out by the end of the year, and you have to be donator to get in.
So what's the deal with the Spinosaurus? From what I've seen, it isn't playable.
So what's the deal with the Spinosaurus? From what I've seen, it isn't playable.
It's a roaming NPC dinosaur that attacks both the dinosaur and human teams.
It's a roaming NPC dinosaur that attacks both the dinosaur and human teams.
Roaming NPCs? that's pretty cool, I was wondering why they showed all those herbivore in one of the trailers.
most likely a mistake.
What they changed fcrom unigine to UDK? :( I liked the look of it.
it looks better with UDK in my opinion.
aka douche-a-saurus
Best name for a dinosaur ever :v:
I meant to reply to this earlier, but for those people who wanted the feathered dinosaurs instead of the more reptilian ones, the devs are working on an alternate skin pack which may include the feathered variety of the raptor. Not sure yet, but it's what they're planning on doing. The skins for the other dinosaurs will probably be just a variation of color.
Looks interesting, but restricting the beta to donators is just dumb. How are they going to test the game for imbalancing with a bunch of people? That's what a beta is for, testing. The more people test it, less bugs will make it into the final game, which results in more people buying it.
Pretty awesome. Looking forward to the beta.
Camping on beta signup.
I'm so getting a Tophat for the T-Rex. .. Wait, no hats? What a horrid game. :v: On a serious note, this looks pretty cool, looking forward to hear more from it.

I wouldn't ask for my money back simply because the product wasn't good on the release. I'll likely be donating after the gameplay trailer is shown.

I know I may sound stupid but will this be like a standalone game or will it need an Unreal Engine game?
Um, I'm pretty sure it's standalone? I'm not sure what you mean. [editline]02:27PM[/editline] Also, regarding the beta, it'll be closed for donators only (and to get into the beta, it's really only ten bucks) but they might open it to more people after a while. Not entirely sure as it hasn't been discussed much. But there have been a LOT of people who have donated, so shortage of beta testers is not a problem.
My avatar approves of this game.

I so want this, but halfway through reading it I realised that it's probably not out yet. :(
it most likely won't be out until next year.
I have always wanted a Jurassic Park kinda game, and this looks perfect. Graphics look amazing, and I can imagine myself shitting my pants suddenly running into the T-rex, it's a shame it has a while to go.
I got a E-Mail from them, added them to MSN. Hope to be Prop& Environmental modeller.
