steam says its downloading something for me but there is no download speed listed and the size shows it as complete, just a slowly moving progress bar
Which is normal if you use VPN to unlock.
yes the King is bugged sometimes....good start huh.
Anyway quick mini review having played the first few missions
Hitman: Retries
Let me state one thing before I start, the Hitman as you know it is long gone, in its place a passable (albeit beautiful) stealth game.
They have basically removed all the little touches that made hitman great, even the tiny touches that used to make you think "man, they really care about this game" the concealing gun animation, lights being toggleable, the UI, manual saves , the sheer scale of map the list goes on and on
what you have in its place is something that lies between hitman and conviction, leaning extremely heavily toward conviction unfortunatly.
I heard alot of praise about the KOCT level being sandboxy and it is! but its literally the size of the nextdoor neighbours ...sandbox. And don't get me started on the Disguise feature, its currently just....broken. On the more difficulties ..broken and pointless.
the terminus hotel was next and boy I was exited, untill I realised it was broken up into tiny floors, and there wasnt even a target at the end, I went through a door.....aaaaaaand cut.
I wont go on as I don't want to spoil any more of it for those who haven't played, but so far, the PCG review was spot on, as a long time hitman fan, disappointment cant even describe how I feel about absolution.
lol why was he spammed dumb nothing he said was untrue.

Mostly because he's been doing nothing but posting incredibly arrogant posts in this thread, and people are sick of him.
The game seems fun enough so long as you turn the difficulty up to 'hard' (turning it up further seems stupid to me personally, at least on a first playthrough), and don't go into it expecting Blood Money.
also, I think my save got corrupted after I died. It's just permanently loading and never does anything now.
That's a bug I think. Had that happen to me once.

If i want blood money, i'll play blood money.
A sequel should be unique and stand on its own i think.
Would be fun with a retry counter on every mission when playing on purist. I've gotten my ass handed probably over 150times only today :v: i refuse to kick it down a notch!
9PM PST can't roll around fast enough!
Crying because I missed the pre-order period and now the game costs 5 bucks more

Exactly.
I don't want a map pack for Blood Money.
I'd be happy with a remake of Blood Money though.

Oh, it's 9PM PST? The store page said 4PM PST for me.
I guess it lied.

I'm going to assume it's 9PM PST because by that time it will already be the 20th on the east coast, not to mention that Steam does this a lot, eg. Skyrim
What the fuck, my game was working fine but I exited it and it's doing the pre-load thing too. That's fucking bullshit.
Oh my god oh my god oh my god!

Thanks Valve!
Okay appearently the steam_appid.txt trick fixed it.
Make a steam_appid.txt in the common/hitman absolution folder and put only "203140" in it w/o quotes.
I might be late, but I went snooping around through the files just out of boredom and I found this 58 minute long video in the Professional Edition folder.
Looks like I have some time to kill!
Well I finally beat King of Chinatown, but only after abadoning all effort to assissinate the target and only the target.
No matter how hard I tried to think of a clever way to retrieve an item I needed for my original planned hit, there was just no apparent way to retrieve it without blowing my disguise. I'm sure I could have figured it out eventually, but I was tired after wasting a good hour and a half on one level.
And here's the thing, I usually don't mind wasting that much time completing a mission in Blood Money, but that's because in Blood Money, if I pulled off a really sneaky or complex maneuver to get to a strategic point or advatage (A Disguise, Item, Weapon, Etc), I could just save and restart from that point and keep experimenting for the next phase of the hit. In Absolution, no such luck. I realize I could lower the difficulty and get check points, but it's not the same as having a save system at your disposal.
That said, my opinion on the overall game so far is good, it just feels like some of the changes they made to both the save system and disguise system hamper the experience.
EDIT: Also I'm playing on Expert, so I do have some Instinct to rely on, but barely enough to accomplish anything.
[sp]just get the fish and put it in his coffee, real easy[/sp]
i'm not sure how to get into the upper apartment for the [sp]evidence[/sp] without getting spotted tho.
the hotel with thugs takes literally 2 minutes to complete without getting detected or using disguises

SO MUCH STEALTH

also can you only get silent assassin if you need to kill someone?

1. [sp]The coffee? You monster! I put it in his dish[/sp]
2. [sp]Take the dealer's clothes and get in that way.[/sp]
i'm on and off about the disguise system but one thing that i found really weird is that the [sp]people selling fish etc will see through your disguise[/sp]. the hell? I can understand people can see through your disguise if you're in a building with 10 people who work with each other everyday, but in a market with large amounts of people and they see right through it?
not that i even used it but seriously what the hell

Try Dean's way...

pardon me? where am I being "arrogant" just out of interest, also if you disagree tell me why, I'm just stating the facts, looking forward to the retort
I'm actually starting to agree with PCgamer, which is a sad thought.
The Fun of Hitman 2, Contracts, and Blood Money was the ability to hide in plain sight, and there is simply no way to do that in Absolution. Literally, any disguise I don is pointless, as there will be someone to see through it. I just get so frustrated because it seems almost impossible to explore your options for infiltration and assassisnation when you can't even safely scope out your surroundings without running into some prick who will instantly spot you in a second, regardless if you have instinct or not because it drains in a split second.
Having to use Instinct to blend is perhaps the most stupid, and unfun addition to the series yet; and my enjoyment of the game would increase ten-fold if it were altered; because there's a ton to like about Hitman Absolution. The game looks stunning, and I'm just playing oh High Settings. The environment is alive with guards and civilians talking and it's fun to listen in on them. This game fails completely as a Hitman title, but it still has the potential to be a great strealth game; and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
Well that kinda sucks.

This is what bothers me the most, the fact that disguises will apparently be near useless. You shouldn't really have to use Instinct to blend in while wearing a disguise.
Some of the complaints are valid, but most of them aren't bothering me that much. The biggest thing that's bothering me is that the door checkpoints make the game seem very linear.
So I was playing Blood Money's last mission.

I think something broke. Either that or that Marine REALLY likes M14s.

The best part of that mission is getting them all to river dance.

I still think the disguise system in this makes a lot more sense than having an ultimate disguise system that gets you anywhere, you just have to be careful and observe your environment well. You can still hide in plain sight, but you have to be careful about it. It makes sense if you took a disguise from a certain sector and people from that certain sector could see through your disguise, it's a more advanced system than the other Hitman games, in a real life situation it would be more like this, sure it needs a bit of fixing with some of the guys spotting you instantly, but I like it a lot more to be honest.
[editline]20th November 2012[/editline]
Plus you don't have to use instinct, the only real reason why it's in there is to open the game up for more people.
I think the way disguises work now is fine, I think maybe they should reduce how quick they see through it that's all.
It's better than just walking past anyone with the right outfit.
