It was pretty much designed to be a Medieval combat game. Hell, I find this more exciting than Medieval Total War, you get a "Fuck Yeah!" feeling whenever you charge your mass of cavalry towards the enemy. Which is why I'm looking forward to TLD so much, Rohirrim, CHARGE!
A FPS/TPS (First person sword game :v:) will always be better then a RTS when it comes to having battles in real time.

So say like in RTW you selected a Legionary unit and jumped into it, you'd be the Centurion giving orders to your 79 Legionaries.

It's a decent game but it isn't a "huge battles" game but you can switch to your leader at any given moment and fight on foot while giving orders.
Gah native expansion is too hard, people attack you all the time and the morale system just makes my troops constantly retreat. I just want a mod that can let me control my own faction.
Prophesy of Pendor.
It looks like that changes loads though, or can I trust you and assume it's all for the better?
Pretty much any mod that allows you to really manage your own faction changes a lot to, but yeah it's pretty good, plus it gives you several gameplay options that you can change.
Prophesy of Pendor allows you to control your own faction, there are a few others that do too, but thats the one i've got on my mod list.
Sword of Damocles also lets you be a king. In my opinion this mod handles the controls and gameplay very well when you rule your own land.
I believe I just found the best mod ever for this game. It's a shame it's so damned hard to raid Comanche caravans because 90% of the guards are mounted archers/gunners and the other 10 are mounted with shields. Your army does tend to get slaughtered a bit when you try to fight Renegade Confederates or Deserters though, since they're so heavily armed with powerful rifles. Oh yeah and the stockpiling skill :argh: Comanches stole my rifle rounds and now I'm stuck hacking people up with a machete.
Now that i've bought M&B, will i be able to upgrade to warband when it comes out like they have been doing with new versions, or am i going to have to buy it all over again?
All over again probably, Warband is an entirely different game, well sorta,.
Is there a mod that allows more than 100 on the battlefield?
http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=107 Battle Size Changer, allows you to up it to 1000 at the most but you'd need hell of a computer to run it, 300 is what I currently have it set at (Also sucks that H&H is getting a full reset swebonny)
There's quite a few like that I just mentioned PoP 'cause that's one of the mods in my list.
Never played it, tho. I'll look into it.
DAMN AND BLAST downloaded the demo an hour ago, didnt like the story much, but the quick battles won me over i quitted expecting to buy the game for no more than £3.99 but no it's reverted to it's original price of £24.99 while i was playing this kind of thing should have a timer or something to warn you when the deal ends im so raging right now, but you dont really need to care
You should pay attention to when the deal ends, not the game itself, plus it's somewhat generous shareware, until you hit level 6 or reach 30 ingame days. And there is no story, it's more sandboxy than story.

(Man that's awesome, now newbies will have a chance and I'll start to play again. Join us Rayven after the reset, I'm with one of the "developers" Kaka, he mainly makes music and gives away dev secrets, an awesome guy.)

Is there a LOTR mod by any chance?
Not any recent versions, the only one i can think of is The Last Days, but that only works for version 0.7 something or other, a really old version and vastly different from todays game. although you can download it a slong as you can find the installer and as long as you install it to a seperate directory.
Oh ok.
It's a great mod but the version it's on is so old you'd probably not enjoy it, but you could always give it a go.
Naah. I'll wait until a updated version comes along.
Good luck with that, by the looks of it it's going to take a goodly long time. It's been worked on ever since 1.011 was release and that was something like 2 years ago.

Then get the 0.7xx version and install it in another location and play the mod then.
