I'm pretty sure what you want to do isn't possible without the engine source code, which just isn't available to the general public. Now, if you feel like paying Valve some licensing fees to make your own commercial game using their engine...
The long and short of it.
IMPOSSIBLE. Don't try.

People in this thread are simply telling you the following:
A. It's near impossible
B. It's impossible.
C. It's banworthy. (On and offline)
D. Get out
[editline]7th May 2011[/editline]
Seems like solid advice.
You can get VAC'd even if its a offline server.
No, you don't seem to understand. Saying someone doesn't deserve an avatar is stupid and makes no sense. In other words what I meant is that is that for saying that you should: "Get out."
My sarcasm must have gone over your head: I was referring to the "win".

I could get the license to do what you suggest, but I can't do what you suggest. Writing a game and writing a small mod to a small part of a mod are two very different things. The difficultly of buying the license compared to writing the core source engine from scratch can be expressed as the following equation:
Cost of license λ, difficulty of purchase Ϡ, difficulty of source engine creation Ю:
λ•Ϡ=Ю

Impossible? That hasn't stopped me from trying before now, and now is a terrible time to stop.

You're just funny. I'm going to call you "Cakey." Next headshot I get I'm going to declare "caked!" over the voice chat and think of you. Getting "caked."

I think you missed the sole useful reply to my question.
You can get VAC'd even if its a offline server.
I'll need to verify this somehow. As there are non-VAC servers listed in the master server it's questionable logic that a private LAN server without VAC could result in a VAC ban.

If VAC is disabled, im not sure if you can still get VAC'D as I never wanted to try.
IMPOSSIBLE.
As in, not possible?
Ever?
EVER.
Now is a great time to give up. Give up.

I think you've overstayed your welcome.
Imagine I give you a spoon. I say, "Build me a portal to another universe using only that spoon." Could you do it? No! It defies all laws of the universe! You're trying to defy the laws of the game itself. You're better off making your own game with it's own engine.
Oh you're right. VAC is only online protection. However if there is discrepancy between vanilla files and your files, basically tweaking dlls or anything deeper, then it can lead to a ban of your steam account. With that, steam doesn't necessarily need to be online to check this. This is how people using EP2 content without actually owning Episode 2 get their steam accounts banned. Unlike a VAC ban, you are barred from the games you payed for outright.
Just a warning and speculation. That's all.

What? no they don't
What? no they don't
If EP2 models are in your directory without you owning the game you're technically using content from a game you do not own. With that, it is not exactly an ok thing to do.
[editline]7th May 2011[/editline]
Model replacements are a workaround, however. After all, they are not "owned" by anyone.

I will say this; while I have asked a simple question and received simple answers I have also been civil, polite and have done my best not to stumble on my words. I tried to explain my question and my reason with tact and succinctness.
Explain to me not the concept of impossibility but why it is that you and the others know this impossibility while I, having exploited every facet the Source engine revealed to me, do not. I'm at a loss as to why so many are quick to repeat the impossibility while so few offer insight.
I've explored the idea outlined previously, pseudo-cyclic arrays, and have settled on the idea that before an object is created it can be filtered through a script that checks to make sure creating that object wont break the game and if it would to determine what object to delete to avoid a crash. Lag? Sure, but it's better than a crash. Figuring out how to do this is going to take me months of my spare time (when I'd feel like actually messing with it) so if anybody has a simple wheel so I don't have to reinvent it…?

Still not jiving with what I'm tracking for how VAC and Steam does business. Mind you I own nearly every Source title, but I need more convincing.

If Ep2 models are in your directory it means you've installed an addon. If you have the GCF files in your directory, it means you're playing on a computer that probably has another Steam account on it. If you've extracted the GCF files into your user directory there's no practical way to tell. Trust me on this one, if nothing else in this thread.
Well an old account of mine got steam banned for that specific reason. Luckily it was just gmod on it.
Then I wised up and got the Orange Box.
[editline]8th May 2011[/editline]
That's all I'm saying. Believe what you want.

cost multiplied by difficulty equals...difficulty?
or are you trying to say if you multiply two greek characters you get a cyrillic character.
I don't get it.
Cost of Licence * Difficulty of purchase = Difficulty of source engine creation
which doesn't make sense but that's okay i guess

Woot! Somebody got it. Mixing Greek and Cyrillic alphabets might be odd, but it paints a pretty picture. Here Ю is the difficulty of writing the Source engine to do what I'm asking from scratch where Ϡ is the difficulty of a single purchase. The expression is of course quite inaccurate but looks pretty.

yeah sorry dude, your equation's not making any sense

Ok, being mean now. But seriously. It's impossible, and you should stop trying.
Unless you work at Valve, which is highly unlikely.

Wait wait. I'm possible gé tout? That's not even English, this is an English-speaking forum.

Actually it's apparently quite possible for someone familiar with Lua and the Source engine. I'm looking forward to learning the bits I need so I can do this. Again, I've got much more on my plate than this small matter so anybody that can help is invited to try their hand at it.
"Mean"? Nonsense! When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damned lemons! What am I supposed to do with these‽ Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Having not received answers that fit into your ideal world, you insult those who have attempted to help you. And rather than trying to explain yourself further—to help those mindless buffoons—you disrespect them.
You display education and good diction, but waste both by using them as means to gain superiority. I must now reveal something shocking; knowledge is quite different from intelligence. You are similar to someone I knew from my childhood. She was quite educated, stubborn, resilient, and eventually successful—but completely blank when it came to interpretation and visualization.
I do not wish to seem as though I am trying to insult you, or anger you—I am not. None of this was written with irritation or condemnation. I'm merely giving you the option to understand; you have driven off the kind people who originally offered their help.
Welcome to Facepunch.

Hey, everyone shut up for a second! I actually want to hear which variables/limits saito.kaiten is suggesting be changed. Hypothetically, in a world where changing certain limits wouldn't cause a VAC ban. Sheesh guys it's not like everyone in this thread is going to be VAC-banned for discussing it...
EDIT: saito, are we talking map size limits? Number of entities/brushes/particles/effects/props limits?
... ahh fuck me, he left already didn't he. SEE WHAT YOU DID? ruined what could've been a valuable discussion about source engine limits with a frog image macro. punks.
Saiko's having fun, you guys.
