Or: Compare prices with your local stores before you buy. Sometimes some games are cheaper or cost about the same ammount on steam and in retail here in Sweden. But steam is usually more expensive.

You can hardly find good PC games, which are worthy to be paying for ~40-60 €-$, because of SecuROM and DRM. (However Steam is the only DRM support I can stand: not perfect, but quite acceptable)
