I really hope this game wont be 4 hours long like my friend keeps telling me :(
Its about 6 or so hours for the first playthrough assuming you just burn through the missions and dont mind killing everybody.
Most people will take about 10-11 hours for "normal" playing.
If you are ghosting, exploring seriously, and/or taking your time, probably will take like 15 hours
The game is literally designed to be played more than once though. The gamplay is totally different depending on what gameplay style you do, and certain things in the game track how "chaotic" you are which affects future missions (more chaos, more infected NPC's, guard patrols, rats, etc). Especially since there are like 6-8 different ways to get into things/kill your target/etc. And multiple endings.
I'm glad the game isn't super long because its a game I really would like to replay several times. As much as I loved DX:HR being an actual MEATY single player game that I spent 42 hours playing my first playthrough, it was too much to really take on again with a different playstyle on a second playthrough. This game being smaller but still meaty means its much easier to "swallow" for me playing through multiple times.
Also apparently the stealth works really well in this game because the enviornments are built to make sense, rather than built to be broken into/stealthed. So alternate routes can sometimes be really hard to find, and require you to basically "figure it out" instead of the game telling you where they are. Which makes the places in the game feel like real places, according to a review. As you feel like you are an assassin having to overcome the enviornment rather than the enviornment being "made to be stealthed in".
This kind of implies that I need to activate the game... aka not have it already activated.
Activate as in decrypt, stop being dumb.
Why is everyone complaining about the game being 4 hours? The longevity of this game comes from your own sense of adventure and experimenting with all the tools the game has to offer. I mean I've never played any other Hitman other than Blood Money, but as far as I can tell this game has a structure very similar to Blood Moneys with the whole being able to choose a mission whenever (After you completed it of course) and do it a completely different way. And that game I'm sure you could beat well under 4 hours if you just run and gunned straight for your target.
Relax about the four hour thing. That's something started by one person, who clearly skipped most of the content of the game or just flat out lied. Every other reviewer I talked to said that four hours is a laughable time.
Most reviewers took around three times as long to complete it. That's near 12 hours for those not wanting to do the quick math.

12 hours is still kind of short, unless they rushed

And keeping in mind that the reviewers need to hurry through much of the content in order to meet a deadline.
Is it 5am GMT it's released in the US?

1. take current time
2. add 8 hours
3. success
12 hours is still kind of short, unless they rushed
12 hours for a modern first-person title is actually quite lengthy. Sad (I know), but true. I understand what you mean though, but read my additional response below for more information.

Which is what I had to do and I was over the 12 hour mark by a bit. I had to rush through some areas, I didn't get to fully play 100% stealth as I would like to attempt without a time limit. So yes, even then it's still a LOT longer than the four hours everyone is freaking out about.
Lets hope my math midterm tomorrow doesn't suffer to greatly due to the lack of sleep I will probably have from playing this. Dear god I'm excited.

Just preordered. About that 4 hour thing, a few reviewers I've seen have said the it's at least a 13 hour story. Either way, I intend to have multiple play throughs just to get my money's worth.
So what's the current cheapest way to pre-order this and have the key by tonight?

Fuck that then, I'm getting it on PC.
Eldergeek.com's review said around 21 hours by taking your time, that just one playthrough.
Yeah, so far I've heard anywhere from 12 to 20ish hours now, so it's kind of hard to judge.
5 hours to go.

Sounds like a fare offer, but I think i'll just wait for the keys to release on Bethesda insiders and get it for free without having to suck dick.
Oh what the fuck...
I pre-ordered this and Hitman Absolution (Totaling $105.00) and now the $20.00 that was in my Steam wallet has mysteriously vanished without a trace.
There was no reason for the funds in my steam wallet to be used because I payed for this and absolution in full with a credit card.
Can someone try to offer an explanation as to what happened?
Seriously, What the fuck Valve?
[editline]8th October 2012[/editline]
Nothing about the steam wallet is showing up in my transaction history either.
It shows when I added it, but it seems i've just lost 20 dollars to the void.
Can someone tell me where to go about this?
you sure your card was charged the full 105? i would guess Steam put $20 of the bill on your wallet and charged your card $85 for the remainder. just contact support and they'll check it out

Time and place?
damn it, it appears my Gamestop isn't doing a midnight launch for Dishonored. So I have to wait until 10 AM to play it.
