So what engine does this game utilize? It looks like Source, but I could be wrong
This game sounds awesome. I love the interesting stealth and sneak away abilities they are talking about and I like how the game looks graphically. I'll definitely be looking into this.
So they smash together every good game developer and have them make a game?

I haven't really taken to time to read through the whole thread, but what I'm getting from this is that this whole unique assassin experience is what came out of the ashes of The Crossing without the actual SP/MP crossover? I had been looking forward to that game for so long... :( Maybe I'll get some spiritual-successor-esque satisfaction with this.

I think I read a modified Unreal Engine 3 although I can't find where I read it to confirm.

It could even be IdTech 5
I like this new art style Bethesda games have been using recently
It could even be IdTech 5
Could be but I think that it would have been in development for too long to be on that. Same reason why Prey 2 is on id Tech 4.
A game with the options and rich complexity of Deus Ex, the varied combat and intimate melee of Dark Messiah, and the beautifully coherent Europe-centric world design of Half Life 2.

In true Deus Ex style, objectives will have several methods of completion.

If you want to get your weapons dirty, the up-close combat is a development of Dark Messiah’s physical blend of parries, counters and brutal finishing moves.
Sad to know they won't be doing the melee system for Skyrim.
Looking forward to this game though.
beautifully coherent Europe-centric world design of Half Life 2.

They definitely pulled it off a hell-of-a ton times better than Half-Life 2 did.
the visuals remind me of bioshock: infinite, tho less vivid
i was kinda hoping for a more realistic look but oh well apparently it will be as open as deus ex and sport the amazing melee-action of dark messiah so this will probably own nonetheless.
Fuck. I mean, seriously that's just shit. Couldn't you tell us about this game like a week before the release :v:

Is your only purpose in this thread to insult HL2's atmosphere? HL2 was one of the best games for its time, and it captured the atmosphere, IMHO.
And this seems like it will do the same, but I doubt it will have a atmosphere similar to HL2, since even tho it has a bit of a similarity it will (hopefully) have its own very unique feel to it. Looking forward to this game.

I agree with this guy. It'll probably top HL2's entire BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU premise. And it'll explain it better, that's a guarantee.
The art looks awesome. I have to say, I hope it'll have some free roaming elements. Even if it's just to look at the scenery. Art like that always makes me want to explore.
I hope the freeroam isn't to exagerated, I don't want to play an half assed freeroam game. I'd rather have a nice mix of freeroam mixed with storyline.
I really dig the style so far.

I love HL2 very much. However, I'm a bit disappointed in what it could have been.
I'm so glad this game uses Dark Messiah's combat style, I love it and not too shabby at it either :v:
It's being published by Bethesda, it will probably be bad.
Look at Brink, Fallout New Vegas, and Wet.
You realize publisher has almost nothing to do with development?
Oh and listing Fallout: New Vegas as one of their BAD games?
I hope that was a typo.
I am loving the way this looks so far. I think this game is going to have a heavy Victorian bent in it's art style, I mean look at those ceremonial uniforms on those guards.

Might be a repost.

Looks like this isn't disappearing like I thought it might. Don't worry guys, there's still anti-hope left.
[release]Q: Who is developing Dishonored? I’ve heard that people from Arx Fatalis, Bioshock 2, Half-Life 2, Dark Messiah, and the original Deus Ex are onboard.
A: Our full team (with offices in Lyon, France and Austin, TX) is working on Dishonored. Many of our team members have worked on the titles mentioned above (in addition to others), and we all feel very lucky to be working together on this project.
Between now and the game’s release, we’ll share new details on our team and studios.[/release]
[release]Q: And what about the involvement with Bethesda/Todd Howard/ZeniMax/etc/.?
A: Arkane Studios is now part of the ZeniMax family and our future titles, beginning with Dishonored , will be published by Bethesda. Todd and the rest of Bethesda Game Studios are not working on Dishonored — as you know they’re putting the final touches on Skyrim (which we can’t wait to play!).
While we’re not working directly with BGS, it’s great that we’re able to regularly talk, share ideas, and trade feedback.[/release]
[release]Q: Viktor Antonov (the art director of Half-Life 2 and visionary behind City 17) is involved in the project. What’s his role on Dishonored?
A: Viktor is our Visual Concept Designer, working side by side with our Art Director, Sebastien Mitton. Dishonored has its own distinct look and any similarities to other games is either coincidental or a byproduct of Viktor’s very recognizable signature design style. Some elements of Dishonored’s look are driven by the alternate industrial revolution in our fiction. Other aspects of the art direction are deliberately impressionistic, as a creative choice. Stay tuned for more screenshots and in-game video footage.[/release]
[release]Q: Why doesn’t Dishonored take advantage of the idTech5 engine?
A: The game was in early development before we joined Bethesda. We’re certainly impressed by everything idTech5 has to offer, but Dishonored is being crafted with a custom version of the Unreal Engine, including plenty of features developed in-house.
[/release]
[release]Q: What is the mission structure for the game? Is Dishonored an open world game?
A: Dishonored is a mission-based game, with each location a living, breathing place in the city. These places have distinct identities, but also feel like part of an integrated world. Each mission will take you to a set of sandbox areas with multiple pathways encouraging exploration, in terms of both physical space, player style and game mechanics powers. The game also features a central hub that you revisit between missions. Incidentally, one of our core values is world cohesion, so we think about who lives in each place and how the area functions, realistically.
[/release]
[release]Q: What about the gameplay? Is it a stealth game or a “run and gun” FPS?
A: “Play your way” is one of our sayings at Arkane. In Dishonored, you will be able to find and exploit your own play-style. Whether you prefer several flavors of stealth, trickery or direct combat, the player will be able to make gameplay style choices throughout the game, second to second. However, the game is tuned so that direct combat is intense.
[/release]
[release]Q: Tell us about the game’s perspective and the philosophy behind it.
A: The entire game is seen through the player-character’s eyes as he moves through the world. (Not sticky cover system or third-person camera cuts.) You have a range of movement options from first-person point of view, including lean, sprint, slide and mantle. In addition, you have the opportunity to gain improved physical abilities throughout the game through one of our three character upgrade systems. Swimming, hiding in shadows and getting up onto rooftops are part of the fun.
[/release]
[release]Q: When are we going to get to play Dishonored?
A: We look forward to letting all of you play the game when it’s released next year.[/release]
From what I understand, they put you in the missions as a kind of large area, maybe districts of the city, and place you near the objective. You can complete the mission, or scour the area for side missions and equipment.
