I love the gameplay in this, but the story/world/lore could have been expanded and explored SO much more. It has such incredible potential, but so much just feels unexplained. Who is the Overseer, why am I an assassin, and why are there other assassins that I'm fighting against, what's the deal with the whales...
I take it you haven't read many of the booksor listened to the audiologs.
The overseers are like inquisitors for the Abbey of the Everyman, the religion dedicated to opposing the Outsider. The High Overseer is their leader.
You're an assassin to get revenge against the people who killed the empress and kidnapped Emily.
The other assassins are mercenaries, they have powers because the Outsider thought Daud was interesting.
No one in universe knows what's up with the whales either, all they know is the whales are somehow linked to the Void.
There's plenty on all these in the game, don't bitch because you're too lazy to read.
Fuck you tallboys, and you field of vision and screen shakiness and your height jesus christ, if they could only jump I'd possess this pieces of shits and throw them off edges.
Anyone know why Daud's assassins are called Whalers? Other than that it's an awesome name.

They're not. They use gasmasks that they stole from a whaler warehouse. Whalers hunt whales and process them for meat, oil, and fat. You can see whaler ships sometimes on the river.

That's the last time I read the wiki.

I did think it'd be quite confusing if you had whalers and Whalers in the same gameworld.

Wikis are generally shit for the first few weeks after a game comes out.
They're not.
I'm pretty sure Daud's gang was referred to as the whalers at some points (because of the masks). They're not actual whalers though.

The Outsider, you mean.
God damn it was short.
I mean holy shit, was it short!
But it was a good game anyways.

Short? If you don't rush through everything and complete at least some of the side missions, the game should take you around 10 to 20 hours to complete, which sounds pretty decent to me for a (semi-) linear first person game.
As a comparison, I think HL2 was around 12 hours long (although Dishonored is less restricted and also focuses on being an RPG).

I did all the side missions, collected all runes and charms, sneak killed/choked everyone and still I clocked something around 7 hours.

D: I've never read that/I forgot about that! Not sure which, either way I were wrong.
The Outsider, you mean.
Indeed I do, I'll fix that.
Yeah I thought that too, kinda creepy when it says stuff like "Why am I so cold?" ... but again, that's another thing they ever really explain or hint at.
the heart says stuff regarding certain characters and places that it's pretty obvious actually also it's clearly told who created the heart.
should I buy this game.
should I buy this game.
Look up gameplay videos. If it looks fun, buy it. If it doesn't, save your money.
[sp]I had hoped for some closure regarding the outsider however. I figured something was building up towards the end but he mostly just gives you a pat on the back and that's pretty much it. Would have been nice to know his motives at least.[/sp]
I do agree that there should have been some more stuff about the Outsider, but as for his motive, you're pretty much told why he does what he does from the very beginning.
He's an immortal spirit of nigh-infinite power, quite frankly he's bored out of his mind and decides to hand out magical powers to random people who seem interesting.
He didn't give you powers because he wanted you to kill the Lord Regent or save Emily and restore the throne, or in any other way further his own agenda, he simply did it for the lulz.

Would make sense for a being of infinite power to not give two shits about what you do with those powers, too.
Do we ever see if Gristol/Dunwall has an army, or do the city guard also act as an army?
Do we ever see if Gristol/Dunwall has an army, or do the city guard also act as an army?
Most battles are probably fought at sea. I imagine the city guard/overseers would step in if an army reached Dunwall.
Do we ever see if Gristol/Dunwall has an army, or do the city guard also act as an army?
I'm guessing there would be an imperial army that was sourced form all of the isles. I think the heart mentions that admiral havelock [sp]tried to sieve control of the military after the empress died, hence why he is outcast and set up the loyalists.[/sp]
For me, [sp]the Overseer in question told a colleague about his symptoms and asked to be killed (Despite protests). The other one promised to make it quick and told him to turn his back and recite their Seven Strictures, it was sort of saddening.[/sp]
I'm doing a stealthy playthrough with zero kills though, and I didn't [sp]help Granny Rags to spread the plague[/sp] if that had any effect on it.
I got that dialogue too. I did the granny rags thing though. I'm doing all side missions.
[sp]In my opinion, the non-lethal options for Campbell, the Pendletons and Lady Boyle are worse than killing them.[/sp]
My problem with the non-lethal methods is, that I would much rather look these ignorant fucks in their eyes as my blade stabs them through upper body and neck than simply doing whatever with them, allowing them to continue their shitty lifes.
Is it just me or does killing the targets feel really justified and satisfying?

It does. I've killed [sp]the Pendleton Brother, the High Overseer, Daud and the Lord Regent[/sp] on my non-lethal (kinda) playthrough.
I just finished a High-chaos "The Dark Knight" Joker type playthrough. Stealth was a plus, but not a necessity. In fact, it was my goal to kill as many people as possible, but still leave evidence so that they would know it was me. Usually this meant leaving a solitary, terrified witness, but [sp]for the party this wasn't necessary, because I signed the guest book. Needless to say, everybody at the party died.[/sp] I let [sp]Daud live, partially out of respect but killed every one of his assassins, and left him wounded sitting next to that wall, with nothing left.[/sp] On the final level, when [sp]Everyone turned on each other at the lighthouse[/sp], I knocked out [sp]everyone but Pendleton, who died anyway, and put them together with Pendleton's corpse on the roof, just to let them see what they had done. I let the Emily fall, even though I could have saved her, to put the finishing touches on destroying the empire. I left every one of the loyalists unharmed, just knocked out, sans Pendleton, to deal with the inevitable chaos of a falling empire.[/sp] I tried to make sure that everyone I killed knew it was me, [sp]revealing myself to the lord regent[/sp], and at the last level, [sp]I ran into the courtyard and fired a pistol in the air to bring all the guards to me so that I could dispatch them one by one.[/sp] All in all, a great playthrough.

I have 18 hours in the game and am only half way through.
Holy shit you guys go through this fast.
Just finished a low-chaos playthrough, my first playthrough. It was great. I knocked out guards and civvies, but in like the last two missions I said fuck it and went lethal.
I have a question though: I really, REALLY liked blink, I think it has a lot of potential. Would it be possible to do a play-through where I just pour all my points into blink and agility, and then just teleport around the map without alerting or even knocking out anyone? Like I know you can do non-lethal play-throughs where you knock people out, but I'm talking about just manuevering around everyone without even touching them. If possible, it would be really hard but absolutely amazing in the end.
Also story time:
There were 3 guards standing on a platform high above the water on the [sp]lighthouse level[/sp]. I possess one, walk over to a whale oil canister powering the arc pylon in the center of the platform, and take it out. I carry it over to the other two and one's like "hey buddy, you don't look so good..." I drop the canister right in between them and continue my zombie walk to the edge of the platform and the two guards are like "what the fuck...". Then I end my possession and immediately whip around, pull my pistol, and fire it into the whale oil canister between them. The one on the right is thrown off the 200-foot high platform into the ocean and the one on the left is rocketed into the ceiling by the explosion, and killed instantly. I then turn back around just as the guard I possessed is looking groggily around and stab him in the back of the neck. He goes limp, and falls gracefully off the catwalk we were on and onto a platform below. I turn around in the direction of the objective just in time to see a lone guard on a catwalk above, staring in awe at what happened. I reflexively pull my crossbow and fire a bolt into his chest, knocking him backwards screaming off of the catwalk and into the ocean.
This all happened in about 3 seconds, no alarms were sounded :v:

You should be able to do this, yes.
Picked it up a few days ago and so far I've immensely enjoyed the game. Seeing as it provides ample opportunity to beat the game via stealth I've set up personal rules/codes of honor for my first playthrough:
1. All hostile enemies must be knocked out (and only knocked out), including the respawns as I encounter them, unless impossible to do so due to immunity -- those are then to be avoided.
2. Being seen by anyone during a mission is an auto-fail, quest givers and those I'm supposed to be seen by are the exception -- citizens are not exempt unless as part of a quest forcing me to show myself to complete it.
3. Bodies must not be seen ever, including when enemies respawn, unless required by a quest or mission to complete.
After I'm done with that playthrough I'm going to play it again with the same requirements but kill every single person I'm allowed to without failing the mission -- quest givers exempt initially.
Been a long while since I've actually enjoyed playing a game this much.

Also, [sp] What happened to pendleton? I didn't see him at all when I went to rescue Emily. Was he just not around or did I somehow miss him?[/sp]
[sp] When I reached the room before Emily, Martin and Pendleton were sitting at the table, both poisoned. [/sp]
