Where in that quote of me did I say it was bad Smith tried to do Deus Ex again? Get this, I'm not saying it's bad they tried to do it. I'm saying they didn't quite make it and it annoys me how much they shout at me that they totally made it. [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] I feel like I'm in that part of SH where people argue something they claim I said or claim I implied while I actually said and wanted to say something different.
I don't see them shouting about how they 'totally made it'
I don't see them shouting about how they 'totally made it'
Did you not get a screen at the beginning of the Brothel Mission that told you about how many choices and how much freedom you had? Did you not see the trailers that focused extremely on different ways you could solve situations? Did you not see the linked trailer in which you could choose your own trailer to reinforce how incredibly much choice you had in the game?
I agree with you Numidium, there was always such an heavy emphasize on how you can complete the different levels. In every interview it was stated and shown, they also explained that every kill would make a major difference and so on.

How else are they going to advertise the game? 'Yeah there are these tall walking dudes and whale oil and stuff'

'Yeah there are these tall walking dudes and whale oil and stuff'
I didn't say they shouldn't have advertised that at all, I'm saying the overemphasis on it annoys me. They didn't need a reminder in game, for example. Because when you feel the need to remind the players how much choice there is in your game while they're playing the game, you're doing something wrong.
Um yeah but that doesn't necessarily mean, "Oh hey buy our game it's like Deus Ex."
No at all, it is only natural that developers use such comparisons to give an impression of their game. It is more efficent than describing a game in a whole paragraph or a detailed explanation.
I didn't say they shouldn't have advertised that at all, I'm saying the overemphasis on it annoys me. They didn't need a reminder in game, for example. In some areas you always get those pop-ups which are really annoying. The game should just go on without the constant reminding of the different ways that you can use. It would give the game a more natural feeling.
I turned off those stupid tutorial popups and objective markers frankly
That is actually a great idea, I never thought of that before. I just played it on very hard and assumed that all the crap would be turned off anyway.
That is actually a great idea, I never thought of that before. I just played it on very hard and assumed that all the crap would be turned off anyway.
It kind of sucks because some of the missions almost rely on it being turned on. The bit where you have to [sp]find Granny Rag's cameo[/sp] for instance. It doesn't show up visually in the world so the objective marker is really the only way to find it
They put those things in there because they expected Dishonored to be a smash hit with the semicasual mainstream audience they think isn't used to freedom. They put them in because they think Dishonored is a special, important, underground-ish soon-to-be-cult game that's better than other modern games because it goes back to the roots of Thief and Deus Ex, and they have to convey this to the audience who didn't play Deus Ex. Of course this didn't work, just like Human Revolution didn't work. But Human Revolution wasn't arrogant enough to assume its players would be unable to handle freedom. These tips are partonizing to the utmost degree, and a clear sign of a huge arrogance on the part of Smith and his team.
We don't speak of invisible war
You just spoke of Invisible War. From where I'm standing it was just an attempt to appeal to the non-gamer market. Which is why us gamers, who are proficient in navigating menus and finding what we need, can turn these hints off if we want. Giving us an in-game option to turn them off or asking us before we begin a new game whether we want them on or off would have been a better way to deal with it though
Stop posting. Please.
Yeah I'll probably do that and just rate everyone who doesn't agree dumb from now on, seems to work for you.
Yeah I'll probably do that and just rate everyone who doesn't agree dumb from now on, seems to work for you.
You talk a lot of nonsense.
You just spoke of Invisible War. I found that thing just fine, just had to snoop around a little in the shanty.
Really? Did it show up as a physical object for you? I had to [sp]look at the pillows and I got a pop up 'press f to take cameo'[/sp]

He may not be terribly aware of it since he's a nice guy and seems properly enthusiastic about the game itself, but as I said, the way this is advertised and thrown in your face ingame embodies an attitude that has arrogance to it. Or do you not feel insulted when the game tells you that there's choice as if you hadn't noticed? And I'm pretty sure non-gamers wouldn't have a problem with that either, and even if, is it not condescending to assume non-gamers can't handle choice? [editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
You talk a lot of nonsense.
Love how well you support that statement.
Yeah personally I'm just disgusted by how they added sleep darts in the game. Just feels condescending for them to add such an easy element assuming that most of us aren't capable of just grappling guards silently. Makes me sick. [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] [sp]notserious[/sp]

I mean I totally said that I felt the game was oversimplified and too easy, right? Is there anyone who disagrees with me that is above ridicule of stuff I didn't say and "ur dumb"?
Okay, dude, seriously, it's one line in one goddamn loading screen, who gives a shit?
Jesus Christ could we please end all this fighting? I'm sure everything actually meaningful has been said. I just thought about that power which that assassin uses right at the beginning of the game to press you against the pillar. Wouldn't some kind of choking power be awesome? Like when somebody sees you, you can grab and hold them, preventing them from alarming anyone before throwing them of a building/stabbing them. Would cost quite some mana though.

Also that power will probably be added in the first story DLC, since you're apparently playing as Daud or one of his assassins in it.

How do you know it's called binding?
Yeah I knew it wasn't actually choking, it just gave me that idea. How do you know it's called binding?
It says so in a note you can find in the Flooded District if I remember right.
I like the game
I did not quite understand what Daunt did and his assassins, are they asssassins that can be hired with magic at their disposal?
Yes and they also like to go after bounties.
I figured that out by reading the letters, but I never noticed until later that Daunt is the assassins of the Empress.
