I remember my first companion or whatever. I burned a village and he said I was "unfair and brutal etc." so I took his clothes and booted his ass.
Mercenaries are usually not loyal. And it would make sense they would leave after a battle or campaign.
Well I guess the most logical explenation then is that they got the armor from a dead soldier, allied or enemy because I'm quite sure they weren't provided armor by their recruiter.
Yeah. But beginning mercenaries wouldn't have any armor at all. They would look more like bandits than anything else. They had to earn money and with that money they'd buy their equipment. Pikemen armor irl isn't the most expensive type of chest armor and their pikes are very cheap. But yeah they could also get some from the dead. edit: I found a gem online. This will solve this mystery. This is based on landknechts:
1 Florin, Guilder, or Thalar = 15 Batzen = 36 Groschen = 60 Kreuzers = 240 Pfennig = 360 Heller 1 Florin, Guilder, or Thalar = 30 Schilling Note: It is very difficult to determine the correct currency exchange because the exchange rates would change often. An anonymous author on the web described German currency from this time period as a bottomless pit that has never been fully researched. Now that we have an idea on how much a pikeman may make per month, we can look at the price of food and other commodities to see just how much he would have left to buy armour. In 1520, a pound of meat was 1 Kreuzer, a pound of wheat flour was 2 Heller, and a cabbage was 1 Pfennig. Interesting though, the price of beer was fixed and inexpensive throughout the period, a move to calm the populace. Let's say on average a pikeman might pay out about 2 Kreuzers a day for food and, given a 30-day month, that would be a total of 60 Kreuzer a month. That is about one quarter of his monthly pay which would still leave 3 Florin, Guilder, or Thalar left over for other things. Now if a Speißtrager choose to eat at an inn then he would pay a lot more, starting at about 4 Kreuzers per meal to up to 8 Kreuzers for a meal of fish. Also a Landsknecht soldier would have spent their money on clothing and keeping in style. Next let us take a look at the cost of armour and see how much our pikeman would have left of his pay. Armour was very expensive but necessary for a soldier as armour gives that little extra chance of surviving a battle or war. In Arms and Armour Of The Medieval Knight David Edge and John Miles Paddock state that Henry VIII, in 1512, purchased 2000 light armours at 16 Schilling each (pages 139-140). These armours were comprised of a “sallet, gorget, breast and back (with tassets), and a pair of splints (arm harness).” By the end of the 16th century (1580 to 1590) similar light armour would cost about 6 Thalars (Johannes Schöbel in Fine Arms and Armor, page 25). 16 Schilling equals about 32 Kreuzers or a little more than ½ Florin, Guilder, or Thalar. If our Speißtrager purchased a light half Harnisch and food he would have left 2 Florin and 28 Kreuzers for clothing, etc. Not bad for some of the lowest paid members of a landsknecht army. This does not take into account problems of a common foot soldier getting paid on time (or at all) and anything he could have augmented his pay with, looting, etc.
In short: The lowest wage for a soldier was 4 thaler. armour cost half a thaler.
Very interesting, thanks for finding that.
60000 thaler now seems like it should buy you a country :v:
Comparing in-game currency with those of the Brits is stupid, it does not make any sense and upsets the balance of the game, like mister Sami stated.
Brits?
Becoming enemies with Swadia because of their fucking lance tournaments. Lances are the worst.
It's really irritating when you're attacked faster than you can block in WFaS mp.
Yeah that happens with pikes and spears. Spears are too fast and pikes block very slow. Mostly magic spears tho.
Becoming enemies with Swadia because of their fucking lance tournaments. Lances are the worst.
Goddamn I love lances, couching is so fun and easy to do.
How do you couch with a lance? I always wondered that myself.
Press X while on horseback and charging. Some lances don't like to be couched, however.
Screw lances, I'm using a giant fucking waraxe... Usable as Lance and Two handed weapon :v:
Which one should I get. Regular Mount and blade, War band or with fire and sword.
Which one should I get. Regular Mount and blade, War band or with fire and sword.
Warband
Discount original M&B. Warband is original M&B refined, it's improved, has more content and multiplayer, sure there are mods for it but still. WF&S if you want firearms and an actual historical setting (1600 eastern europe and a little of asia I think). [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] I suggest getting Warband first to get into the concept of the game with melee weapons and stuff.
Alrighty, Thanks Ive played the demo and really loved the game but couldn't get it til now.
Fire and Sword is a game you should only ever pick up if you truly enjoy Warband. If you buy it without fully understanding Mount and Blade, you'll probably feel as though you've wasted your money.
I preferred warband over fire and sword. I just didn't like the idea of guns.

I got With Fire and Sword and unfortunately didn't like it at all.
My problem with WF&S is it feels a lot like a poorly balanced warband mod. Not that I paid a lot of money for it, but that's basically what it is. They they didnt even bother replacing the "I VILL DRINK FROM YOUR SKULL" viking voice so your average finery-wearing brigand talks to you like he's some burly viking raider. Its stuff like that that really cheapens the experience with a game that's otherwise good.
I played WF&S without noticing any of that. I think it's a great game. I prefer its vanilla experience over the original. Can't say much about Warband though, as I've never played it.
Might be a silly question but does Warband include the same singleplayer experience that the original MandB had or is it only the fighting component?
Might be a silly question but does Warband include the same singleplayer experience that the original MandB had or is it only the fighting component?
Warband is basically a more comprehensive and better looking version of M&B. With the exception of a few details its got everything and more that the original had IIRC.
did i ever post this
My army in Blood & Steel is made up of over 600 elite Huscarls on horses
you bought wf&s what is a mod instead of warband, what is wrong with you
I bought it as soon as it came out because I thought it was the newest game in the series and that everyone would then start playing that instead.
My army in Blood & Steel is made up of over 600 elite Huscarls on horses
...Mounted Huscarls? DOES THIS WORLD KNOW NO BOUNDS?
